Off to Samoa in September. One good thing about living in NZ is that places like Fiji and Samoa are no more than 3-4 hours away.
The dream! Do you dive? Meant to be some of the best diving in the world around there. Healthy reefs and rare wildlife - whale sharks and mantas etc.
I've only been diving once in my life (Hurghada, Egypt in 2002). Incredible experience.
However, not planning on diving in Samoa but will definitely do some snorkeling. Did some snorkeling in Fiji as well in 2024.

Off to Polichrono in Halkidiki this Friday for week, luckily it's cooler than here, just under 30 degrees.

I’m lucky enough to go to Spain once a month and have not seen any issues at any of the 3 airports I fly into regularly. The EES stuff in the press is just the press doing their thing
But it definitely is being suspended at times, becasue of issues.

The press just 'doing their thing' - are they facutually reprorting actual real issues with the queues or making it up and there are no issues?

All I can say is that I fly often to various airports and have seen none of the reported issues at all. There might be some issues I suppose as I cant claim to have been to all destinations however by saying "the press doing their thing" was pointing out that they just overreact on everything (except important stuff). Yesterday for example everytime I heard any news it was telling us all to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids before we all die lol
  • It’s been awful at times at Faro, my wife got caught for over 3 hours about five weeks ago but our friends breezed through in 10 minutes last week.

I’ve had a couple of one weekers in Leitrim, Feb & April, a week in Cork and just come back from 8 days on the QM2 to Norway and the fjords, have to say Norway is stunning. Heading to Scotland this week for a few days.
l travel on my Irish pass card, which is like a credit card, the only problem I have is people not knowing what it is.

Off to do the Wild Atlantic way, in Donegal. Ireland is one of the most overlooked destinations in the world.
The people are so welcoming. The scenery is just breathtaking.
Hope to be sinking my first pint of the black stuff Monday evening, while enjoying the craic.

Costa Adeje as well - Grand Hotel Salome. First time at that hotel but my son and daughter-in-law have stayed there a couple of times in the last six months and they recommended it. Looks good.

So they are exaggerating then? Why has it been suspended by various countries? Because of 5 minutes queues?

The flight can’t be worse than when my mate went to Russia in the 90’s with Aeroflot and the toilets didn’t have doors, just a curtain you pulled across whilst using
We flew with them to Estonia on a stag do years ago and can confirm the blue curtain for the bog is a thing. There must have been 50 of us on that trip and its the only time I've thought a plane was going to be re-routed because of passenger behaviour. The stewardesses were too hardcore for that. They had seen it all before and were not fazed in the slightest

    Tipping

I always give cleaners a tenner on the first day and if they keep the room nice another tenner at the halfway point and a leaving bonus.

If there is a dude bringing drinks to sunbeds he will get a good tip at the beginning of the holiday and the end.

I used to line holiday destinations up by the quantity of women of ill-repute and availability of lager costing 1 euro a measure

Now I dearly love shit to explore, animals to meet, new weird food to invariably destroy my bum, vineyards, bourganvillas, islands of lavender, history and ideally no groups of northerners, jockeys or welshies on social club tours

Well Wales is starting to look like a wash out, so I'll probably scrap that and get back to Rimini where it'll be 28°

Yes, the weather app shows 27 in Limassol today and the forecast is for 26 the Tues and Weds before we arrive on the Sat

28 is just about bearable with a sea breeze but I'm just hoping it doesn't hit 30 or above. As it is I'll be in the pool or sea at least every 20 minutes

Hope you're having a great time

We had 11am flights to Stockholm booked. 7am Norwegian tell us it's cancelled, and have put my partner and I on different flights. I'd have to stay tonight in Oslo, and she'd get to Stockholm 15 hours before our flight back Sunday morning!

So that's Norwegian also on my no-go list. If they'd told us last night we'd have at least had other morning options today.

Maybe they didn’t know last night?

Was supposed to be going on a 6 night football tour of Portugal next Wednesday but I've absolutely done my metatarsal in so cancelled that.

Wife couldn't be happier because she's insisted we use the time off as we had it booked anyway so off to an all inclusive at a Meliá hotel in Lanzarote for 6 nights instead. Looks lovely!

Where ever you go, don’t forget your holiday insurance. Mate, thankfully had his, went over in Japan & broke his hip.

And have it from the day you book, not the day you travel.

Cheers, we had insurance for the hotels thankfully and apparently we could each get £220 compensation (minus commission). They didn't give a reason for cancelling and I can't find one online, so that suggests airline error.

I've missed my Swedish parkrun and football today (AIK v Sirius) so I'm going to look into Gothenburg later in their season.

    Don’t pay anyone commission!

Sounds like you have looked via a claims company. There is no need.

Claim directly from the airline via their website (there will be a link on there).
