I’m not sure the Dykes wage would be that of a player that isn’t going to start a lot of games. If we are mostly using a target man as an impact sub then Leaburn is fine for that purpose and starting the odd game when needed or if in good formCrispywood said:
That’s exactly why we could do with a Dykes, the football won’t be exciting or interesting with him on the pitch but when you want to throw the kitchen sink at teams in the last 5-10 mins you need that big man up top to get back to front as quickly as possible.cabbles said:
As grateful as I was for his contribution, he faded at the end and if we sign him, my worry is that we will be setting up exactly as we did last season which although kept us up, could possibly send us down this season.arny23394 said:I’d like to think we can sign better than Dykes. I’m really not sure we should be going into next season with the exact same set of strikers as last season either.IMO we need to mix it up in how we go forward and look for a bit more flair up top; be that an out and out forward, or the players just behind them to run with the ball, take players on etc. At the moment TC is the only player in that mould, and I think it’s fair to say at Championship level, he doesn’t deliver the consistency required for us to kick on and establish ourselves
If we do sign Dykes, I do worry that it’s a sign nothing is changing in how we approach going forwardI don’t think signing dykes would show we’re not trying to progress it depends on how we use him
I’m pretty sure if we do sign Dykes it will be similar to this season in that he will be starting a lot of games unfortunately
In an ideal world, even with a target man up top we would not take it as the easy option every time we are under a bit of pressure and would play some football. But based on this team and the last 2 years, we played much better with TC + Godden or TC + Kelman partnerships because it removed that easy option
I don’t mind us being a long ball team, but I think we are much more effective when that long ball is into a channel and turns the opposition around rather than aimed at a target man2 -
No thanks for Gilbert, decent player but he’d be another squad option alongside Knibbs and Fullah rather than a clear upgrade on Carey.
If we sign an attacking midfielder they need to improve our starting 11, not our depth.26 -
I don’t think we will sign an attacking midfielder. Gilbert did play deeper for Boro this season but I just don’t think he’s a Nathan Jones type player which is why he didn’t really get a look in ahead of Berry or even Anderson in league 1Scoham said:No thanks for Gilbert, decent player but he’d be another squad option alongside Knibbs and Fullah rather than a clear upgrade on Carey.

In regards to dykes if we are just going to use him for lumping in the box the last 15-20 mins then as said above rather use leaburn and use the wage money on someone better who will start and have more impact.7

Didn't he start most of the last games of the season, including the playoff semis and the final ahead of both Berry and Anderson?NabySarr said:

Berry was injured, if he was fit Berry would have played in the play offs 100%. Anderson was playing with heavy strapping on tooTheHerminator said:

I wasn't as convinced by Gilbert as many on here, tidy touch but was very slow to release the ball often from memory, I remember finding him quite frustrating to watch1

He started the second leg and final because Berry was injured. Before that he only started 2 games (one of them was the last game dead rubber which we rotated for), and even from the bench Anderson was often favoured to see out games.TheHerminator said:

If we sign an attacking midfielder they need to improve our starting 11, not our depth.Berry was clearly first choice starter, Gilbert would come on if we needed a goal and Anderson would come on to see out wins2 -
Edwards is definitely faster than he looks, and especially over the first 10 yards. How many times did he get done for pace by his opposition winger? Hardly ever, to my memory.wmcf123 said:
He’s hyper aggressive and tenacious but I wouldn’t say rapidDazzler21 said:What's this rubbish that Edwards isn't quick? He's one of our fastest players, can put in a tackle and can cross. Madness.4 -
Callum Wilson could be an option, being released by West Ham.13

I can’t see it happening but I would have Gilbert back. I liked himNabySarr said:Middlesbrough released list is out. Alex Gilbert is available on a free. But I think the name that might be better for us is Dan Barlaser, good passer of the ball from deep and got some decent experience at this level. Would expect him to land somewhere down our end of the championship1 -
Fair enough. Feels like a lifetime ago now!NabySarr said:

Not good typing his name if the letters O, I and L are stuck on your keyboard.thai malaysia addick said:

It must be the heat. Only reason why someone could think that a player on £80k per week + would be willing to cut his wages by 90%Dannoo_86 said:Callum Wilson could be an option, being released by West Ham.2 -

Half of those games were because Boro had a bit of an injury crisis in midfield. He did alright initially but not well enough to keep himself in the team. Without that patch of games where they had little choice, he barely playedAberystwythAddick said:

https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/26146238.middlesbrough-contract-loan-stance-retained-list-released/#MIDDLESBROUGH have submitted their retained list, with six senior players set to depart this summer as things stand - though it's understood discussions are ongoing with a couple.
Sammy Silvera, Alex Gilbert, Darragh Lenihan, Jon McLaughlin, Dan Barlaser and Marcus Forss are all named on the retained list as players who will move on this summer when their contracts expire.
However, the Northern Echo understands talks are ongoing with Silvera and Gilbert over their futures.
As things stand, they're more likely to move on than not but a final decision hasn't yet been made and talks are ongoing with the pair, which are understood to largely centre around playing time and how much of a role they'll have moving forward. Neither have been regular starters this season but both were useful squad players.
Boro have confirmed they are in talks with Dael Fry over a new deal, as reported by the Northern Echo this morning. Jeremy Sarmiento's loan deal will also be made permanent next month, as per the conditions of his signing in January.

Yep He was used as a sub mainly apart from a few games. If you go on the Boro forum they are not bothered at all and the general consensus is they think He's league 1 standard, not that great positionally and gives the ball away alot from what I was reading.NabySarr said:

I'd quite like us to sign Anosike Ementa.. been following him after a Danish work mate mentioned him to me a while back. He's in Belgium now and had a decent season there.
Main reason of course is that he's 6ft8.0 -

I'd say we go to him with an offer and say that's it, take it or leave it. No negotiations about wage or contract length, if he does take it, fine, if he doesn't so be it. I think he can be useful but he's not so good as to be taking much time over.AberystwythAddick said:

Even without the wages, one of the most important things about a Nathan Jones team is the press. Wilson can barely move these days let alone press well from the front0
