I think it should go to a replay.CheshireAddick said:
I've often thought that they should do away with penalties.jimmymelrose said:He won the Champions League on penalties.
They are not a lottery but they still aren’t the right way to decide a football match imo.
Also, why did they toss the coin twice allowing PSG both advantages of kicking towards their own fans and going first?
There should be two halves of 10 mins extra time and then if it is still all square at the end then each team should remove 1 player at 1 minute intervals. The managers decide to remove which players, defenders, midfielders or strikers to suit their tactics. The first one to then score wins.
Then at least the match has a 'tactical' outcome and not the lottery of penalties.3 -

Oh really……compared to which other leagues in world football?Southbank said:
Indeed. One shot on target, 27 per cent possession and two completely missed penalties by the team that won the Prem league. Sums up how crap the Premier League is at present.eastterrace6168 said:Couldn't give a shit about Arsenal or PSG...or the bloody Champions League for that fact, totally boring overhyped overpaid crap in my view, rather like the vast majority of The Prem also, anyway rant over...🙄
It sums up nothing whatsoever…..it was only one game on one particular day and not a fair reflection of the overall quality of Premiership football.1 -
Game’s not gone

I have not been able to watch a Prem game all through all season. Long throws, wrestling matches at corners, playing out from the back and giving the ball away.. It was like watching Charlton in League 1. Tedious, tedious, tedious. And Arsenal were amongst the worse.SoundAsa£ said:

Is that significantly different to other leagues in other countries or are you just assuming it’s the case?Southbank said:

I don't meed to watch leagues in other countries to know that the quality of entertainment in the Premier League has declined in recent years. A lot of safety first football that makes Nathan Jones look normal. Let us hope the World Cup is won by a footballing side. That may influence the Prem ( tho I doubt it, there is too much at stake there for risk-taking football to get a grip).SoundAsa£ said:

I find non-league more entertaining

Probably one of the most boring finals none of them played great, Arsenal may regret not just going for it, Arteta went all Nathan Jones and just sat deep hoping for the sucker punch which to be fair was working but a lazy challenge gifted it to PSG as they never looked like breaching their defence

They never looked like breaching the defence because Arsenal played so deep.TD_Addick said:Probably one of the most boring finals none of them played great, Arsenal may regret not just going for it, Arteta went all Nathan Jones and just sat deep hoping for the sucker punch which to be fair was working but a lazy challenge gifted it to PSG as they never looked like breaching their defence
Was boring as a game, but I understand why Arsenal did it - go toe-to-toe and give PSG's forwards space to play in and PSG would have battered them.1 -
Yep. Who knows where they’d be now without that unearned promotion. They could be in the National League South or lower, who knows. Can’t stand them.jose said:Give a shit?
Nah.
Arsenal boast about how long they have been a top flight club, but they didn’t achieve that status by winning promotion in the usual way, at the expense of Tottenham no less.
If Arsenal were to voluntarily relegate themselves to league two (or lower) and work their way back up like Rangers did in Scotland, then they could regain some credibility in my eyes.0 -
Precisely. It’s the same reason why people calling for Nathan Jones to suddenly turn us into a some sort of free flowing attacking side are demented. Your first (and only) job as manager is to make your team successful. Employ the tactics that are most likely to result in that outcome.North Lower Neil said:

Football is as much about defending well, this attitude of teams should all play expensive basketball style football is just indulgent.Dirtying out a 1-0 is as valid as massive free flowing football3

Didn't quite realise how much everyone hates arsenal, my whole need feed is people taking the piss0

Just to confirm, for those on here saying we should always cheer for an English team in a euro club cup final does that include if the spanners or nigels (who did) got to one?
Not having a dig, just curious.1 -
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jun/01/if-arsenal-have-made-most-of-their-resources-is-this-as-good-as-it-gets
Interesting article from Jonathan Liew; if you changed every mention of Arsenal to Charlton and lowered the other team names down a bit it could be about us. 'In its purest essence, and against the best opponents, Mikel Arteta’s style of football is geared explicitly towards narrowing the range of realistic outcomes, and then catching the breaks that remain. But a strategy calibrated to earn and defend a 1-0 lead, with four centre-halves and a low block, stands or falls by those same stark measures. Fine-margins football is all very well, until you find yourself on the wrong end of fine margins'. I think that's something we can all relate to in terms of just how upset people get when we go on a poor run of form compared to if we were a bit more expansive.1 -
To briefly go back to the free to air discussion. Viewing figures for the final were 7m. The last time an English club were in the final (Liverpool, 2022) the figure was 12.6m and it was free to air. I'm sure the advertisers were delighted at the 40-odd percent decrease on viewerhsip0

The advertisers would be paying on the expected viewership of the game on the channel that held the rights. They would be paying more if it was FTA0
