Amuses me that the item below their feeble statement is 'Update on play-off final refunds'ArmchairAddick said:

Hard to believe that Eckert is still in a job. Sacking him would show some signs that they are as they suggest taking ownership of their cheating. His presence still at St.Marys implies supreme arrogance and lack of respect for this whole tawdry episode.3

Pretty grim reading:

That statement is embarrassing.
OK so it says they were plainly in the wrong according to the rules, but they now introduce a kind of weight of evidence/probability angle about the sporting advantage gained or lost, and especially suggesting that two members of whatever panel had connections to Boro, so to Southampton the weight of probability suggests they have been hard done by.
Well if we are to look at probability and weight of evidence, then it is much more probable that Southampton were spying on every club, not only the three they have admitted to, but all their opponents in their 'run'.
In short, if whinging Southampton are casting aspersions on the panel, without evidence, then I would suggest that even without evidence it is fair to judge that Southampton were spying all the time.6 -
Southampton are a big club. Surely they can afford a proper Crisis PR firm. Surely? Why are they so bad at this? Just admit you did it, sack the manager, and move on. This whole "ties of the judiciary committee to 'Boro" thing only draws out the whole event.
Usually the first piece of advice from a crisis PR person is "shut the fuck up." There you go Southampton, free advice.7 -

Hasn't it already been proven from the numerous whatsapps that this is a complete lie and he knew very well it was against the rules?9 -
I'm also still not buying that it was only Oxford and Ipswich they spied on during the league season, no way they went 4 months without doing it to any other teams. But i don't think anything else has come out about other teams so not much anyone can do.17

I still wouldn't be surprised if their 5-1 win at The Valley was suspicious. I mean we were really bad first half and all over the shop tactically but that's one that with all this coming out that does make you ponder.Chris_from_Sidcup said:I'm also still not buying that it was only Oxford and Ipswich they spied on during the league season, no way they went 4 months without doing it to any other teams. Agreed but he maybe he knows things that they'd rather not be known??ShootersHillGuru said:Hard to believe that Eckert is still in a job. Southampton owner Dragan Solak refuses to sack Eckert saying he deserves a second chance. Seems to me that Southampton are pretty unrepentant and dismissive of the seriousness of the spying. Given their obvious attempts to cover up and appeal at the punishment. I really hope that they get what’s coming.6

Crazy move I can't see the players giving 100 percent to a manager who cost them a chance of going up.2

I doubt if he’s sacked for gross misconduct he’d get very far at an employment tribunal. His rule breaking actions have cost the club millions.ForeverAddickted said:fenaddick said:I saw someone suggest on Reddit that if they sack him, they'll have to pay compensationInstead you'd almost expect the FA to ban him, he deserves it, in which case they've surely got grounds to get rid of him without any compensation - However the longer this drags on, the longer it surely screws their plans for the new season.5 -
I can see a siege mentality and playoffs, minimum. Would imagine if the players wanted him gone, he'd be gone already.0

They are a good team and I think Eckert is a good coach so I’d expect playoffs too. However, I don’t think the four points is enough. The deduction should ensure they don’t get promoted next season.Er_Be_Ab_Pl_Wo_Wo_Ch said:I can see a siege mentality and playoffs, minimum. Despite his cheating, and in my opinion he is 100% guilty and Southampton deserves all it gets, he is still a very good manager.
personally I think he should be given at least a 12 month ban from English football.
But if he's not given a ban Southampton know that replacing him with someone better will be a big ask.
Therefore I think they will keep him as that's their best chance of getting promoted next season.
I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but it's what I believe it's what they will do.
When has not doing the right thing ever bothered them.7 -
I can't see how they don;t have cast-iron reasons for sacking him - surely they'd want to move on and start preparing for next seasosn. That's why I am wondering if there is another reasonForeverAddickted said:fenaddick said:I saw someone suggest on Reddit that if they sack him, they'll have to pay compensationInstead you'd almost expect the FA to ban him, he deserves it, in which case they've surely got grounds to get rid of him without any compensation - However the longer this drags on, the longer it surely screws their plans for the new season.5 -
One might surmise that Eckert has pictures of more than just Middlesbrough's training ground routine...(not me, of course, but 'one')2

They’ll sack him when the FA ban him13

Southampton's owner on Radio Solent this morning saying he has no intention of sacking as he called him " a great manager who made a mistake", talk about deluded, he should be sacked now, and given a ban on managing in England again...5

Maybe the owner is thinking that if a foreign club come in for Eckert, Southampton will pocket some compensation cash.0

Why should they make money out of it!...sounds like the club they have become, sordid and dirty...CaptainRobbo said:Maybe the owner is thinking that if a foreign club come in for Eckert, Southampton will pocket some compensation cash.2 -

That might be true but the owner doesn't need to come out and publicly back himForeverAddickted said:fenaddick said:I saw someone suggest on Reddit that if they sack him, they'll have to pay compensationInstead you'd almost expect the FA to ban him, he deserves it, in which case they've surely got grounds to get rid of him without any compensation - However the longer this drags on, the longer it surely screws their plans for the new season.4 -
Apparently National League side Eastleigh could now face an FA investigation after secretly giving Southampton footage of Ipswich training in April.7

My gut feeling is that this is going to fizzle out and Southampton get away with their already received punishment. I doubt we’re going to get a whistle blower come forward now. Someone sticking their head above the parapet would almost certainly ensure that any job in football is finished. Eckert isn’t going to say anything other than I didn’t knowit was against the rules.honest guv. Their owner seems very arrogant. Southampton have had weeks to cover their tracks.0

The EFL took appropriate and very public action
On the back of above, the FA opened its own case. They probably wouldn’t have had any choice in that if they hadn’t taken action but it wouldn’t surprise me if they and the EFL were/are working in tandem on this. The FA can hardly let this ‘fizzle out’ but I doubt they would want to pass up on the opportunity. This one is probably going to run. If there is more to it then it will come out.4 -
If Southampton insist on keeping Eckert on, the authorities should say ‘OK, it’s your money, it’s a free country, have an extra ten point deduction’.3
