The same person who told me initially back in January that we were interested in Tyreese Shade said we are still in for him but Burtons asking price is way too high and also we are looking at other targets first

Good name for a fictional private eye.

Met a Stoke season ticket on holiday of 50 years, he said JRS is up there with the worst. Lazy etc
I'm always skeptical of accusations of laziness. Always feels an easy criticism to make, but to be a professional footballer these-days, even the less workaholic types have to be fitter than probably 80 % of players 30 years ago let alone to be a Greg Docherty. I just don't think you can be lazy and hold down a job as a professional player in one of the upper leagues.

That being said, and going mostly off stats as the only time I've seen him play since he left us was against us last season for Stoke, he does seem to have struggled to have the same impact in the Championship as he had on loan for us. And when you think back, as good as he was for us, it weas mostly concentrated into the second half of that season and he was not as impactful to begin with. I remember thinking when it was suggested he might not stay past January that season that it'd be a shame to lose him but he didn't feel irreplaceable at the time. It was his form after January that changed my mind on that.

We'd be excited to have him back, based on that spell, but it's entirely possible it was something of a purple patch and his current natural level is more the in and out, inconsistent, Championship winger that he appears to be at the moment. I'm sure he'd still tear League One up. Back then he was clearly better than TC, I'm not so sure he'd be a huge upgrade now though.

JRS may be one of those players who feels happy at Charlton but we have no idea if NJ wants him or even if we can afford him.

JRS looked like a future PL player when he was with us, but he certainly doesn't look at that level now.

I don't see how he fits into our team, but signing him is certainly possible financially, especially as he only has one year left on his contract (he signed a 5 year deal in 2022).

Now into the 2nd week of June. When do you think we will announce our first signing ? Before the fixtures are announced (June 25th) or after ?
You’re assuming people on here think?

    When we sign someone.
    Probably a little time after.

Well fwiw I would take him like a shot. He hasn’t set the world alight since he left us but he is still a vast improvement on what we have

Anyone see the Kevin Bridges documentary last night re the beautiful game ? Some of those young kids playing around with footballs ( girls & boys ) were unbelievable I suggest it’s worth our scouting team have a trip. Or maybe get Elf’s to have a look whilst he is there lol

Where would he play in Jones’s negative system ? I wouldn’t want him playing as a wing back .

JRS would only make sense if we used him like TC, but you couldn't play both at the same time in our system as it stands

I imagine that if someone like Godden re-signs, then it will announced when the players return to training later in the month.
i was told that he had a big setback at end of season
Wasn’t included in the England squad

Having both JRS & Campbell would be absolutely lethal as rotation options, tired legs would absolutely hate playing against either

TC has a year left on his contract and I suspect may be sold if he doesn't renew.  Say we got £2M for him and bring in JRS for £2M in return.

    Good or bad business?

    That would be Great Business.

But it will not happen (not at that price).

JRS on the right cutting in and Campbell on the left would be a great combo. But both would need to be used in their preferred positions. A couple of decent attacking midfielders and we could be in good shape in attack.

So 2 wingers, a couple of attacking midfielders, I presume a striker is on the pitch too...

What's the plan, score 3 a match but concede 6?!

Now into the 2nd week of June. When do you think we will announce our first signing ? Before the fixtures are announced (June 25th) or after ?
You can’t wait for the first announcement where you can spend several pages moaning about how they aren’t good enough and won’t score enough goals to keep us up.

If TC didn’t renew then absolutely I can see us selling him, but I don’t think he’s a stock likely to be in high demand based on his first season in the Championship.  There’s lots of potential still given his age, and he’s not played in the most talented team with the ball this season, but for me personally, the jury is still out as to whether he can cut it at this level.

With Jones as manager, he’ll be doing everything he can to get him to sign a contract, but TC may fancy seeing what his options are and letting this season play out.  You never know how players are thinking in this situation.  He was visibly a bit irked at some of the stick he got this season, but he’s had a great career here to date.

I’d like to keep him and see what he can do with better around him, but if he chooses not to renew and walk next summer then so be it, we have to have players that want to stay and be part of what we’re trying to build.

I’m going to guess that he will sign a new deal, and hopefully we bring in the quality to elevate his game

With a year on his contract and a fairly insipid loan last season they won't get anything near that imo.  Somewhere between £2 - 5M is my guess. With a sell on clause attached.

They can do one . He may have been worth that two years ago but that’s more than halved I would imagine.

No way Palace get £10m for JRS with a year to run. Beds is right £5m tops and even then a chunk of that would be add-on's.
