JRS is a good footballer as we’ve witnessed but I’d doubt that he’s even on our radar. Strikes me as not a Jones type of player and would cost way too much in fee and wages for CAFC at this point. My guess is he’ll see out his contract and be out on loan again this coming season to a mid to top end Championship club.

If TC didn’t renew then absolutely I can see us selling him, but I don’t think he’s a stock likely to be in high demand based on his first season in the Championship.  There’s lots of potential still given his age, and he’s not played in the most talented team with the ball this season, but for me personally, the jury is still out as to whether he can cut it at this level.

With Jones as manager, he’ll be doing everything he can to get him to sign a contract, but TC may fancy seeing what his options are and letting this season play out.  You never know how players are thinking in this situation.  He was visibly a bit irked at some of the stick he got this season, but he’s had a great career here to date.

I’d like to keep him and see what he can do with better around him, but if he chooses not to renew and walk next summer then so be it, we have to have players that want to stay and be part of what we’re trying to build.

I’m going to guess that he will sign a new deal, and hopefully we bring in the quality to elevate his game
I think he’d be in pretty high demand from championship clubs this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract and we are open to selling him. There’s a lot of potential there, and his first season at the level wasn’t great in terms of goals and assists, but teams will look beyond those numbers at his dribbling and chance creation stats, his distance covered stats, and that he was knackered and playing through injury at the back end of the season plus a stint at wing back midway through the season. He won’t be that expensive given the contract situation so there will be plenty of championship teams that would be willing to take the chance on him

JRS would only make sense if we used him like TC, but you couldn't play both at the same time in our system as it stands

TC has a year left on his contract and I suspect may be sold if he doesn't renew.  Say we got £2M for him and bring in JRS for £2M in return.

    Good or bad business?

Palace rumoured to want £10 mil.
    Good luck with that Nigels

No way Palace get £10m for JRS with a year to run. Beds is right £5m tops and even then a chunk of that would be add-on's.
Fees these days are mental, I'd expect them to get 7/8 mill... He has proven himself as capable at top end championship clubs and is only 23. Would be surprised if he went for less

Has he? 9 goals and 2 assists over 52 appearances isn't exactly proven quality

If a player is accused of being lazy, you should probably factor their skin colour into the accusation
He isn't lazy but he doesn't like doing defensive work, that would be an issue under NJ

A fair point, although it could be argued he just wasn't really asked to as his previous managers weren't good OOP coaches. I'm not wholly against the idea of JRS, I just don't see him as a natural fit and for the amount of money it would cost, you need a good fit

Well, it needs to be someone who's happy to retrain as a RWB, but I see this as the only way JRS can maintain a high level career, so it's up to him

In general though, the clamour for 'a creative midfielder who can play killer balls' is a bit misguided imo - if you want to upgrade on Coventry and Docherty, it should be for more physically imposing and powerful players who are about as tidy as Coventry on the ball. The chance creation comes from the wings, which is why I think it is absolutely fucking insane that everyone is just assuming Josh Edwards will be a perfect first-choice LWB for us next season. Those are the positions we need to upgrade by a mile the most in

Edwards being solid on the left allows TC/the hybrid winger/striker to go out wide and hopefully be more creative. It's how we've aimed to play for 2 years

It's how we played in League One. I think we need more threat out of our LWB if we want to avoid a relegation battle this season

Is it? Look at his defensive stats compared to other wingers. The most important one in an NJ system, Possession won in final third, he is in the bottom 10%!

Your comment was that he 'didn't like' doing defensive work. From what I've seen he knuckles down and does it. The above figures may indicate that he's not as good at it as we might wish (but there are more factors to that than just him personally).

You cannot conclude that not having great results at something means they 'don't like' it. That's just lazy characterisation.

I love playing golf but I ain't going to win my scratch Club Championship this year.

If a club is stupid enough to pay that for him ( and I’m sure there will be some ) then good luck to them . He just isn’t worth that amount of money.

£10m for JRS was a figure quoted a few years back.

He'd had a very good season with us then done ok but not brilliant with Sheff Utd.

Palace didn't need to sell, he was young and he had a few years left on his contract so they could ask what they liked.

    No one bought him.

He didn't set the world alight in Turkey or at Stoke and now only has a year left on his deal. He'll be 24 in October.

Palace now have a depreciating asset on their hands but they can afford to wait and even give him a new contract but if he doesn't develop they are carrying a cost.

They may figure that a Championship club will cover his wages anyway so no risk and if he finds his mojo then they can sell him.

Forget £10m, that was then, this is now.

Whether Jones wants him is a different question.  My guess is not.

The obsession with JRS is odd, didn’t play under Jones and Jones has given no indication that we would be interested. Completely different club to the one he played at.

As you say that was then His value is probably half that now 3-4 mill maybe with add ons, as He hasn't really kicked on, but there is definitely a quality player in there still young and has familiarity with the club already.

Of course there are far more pressing matters in the team that need sorting first in the midfield and without knowing the budget it's immaterial at this stage, would be happy with him though no doubt.

But realistically the only people left at the club he would know are TC, Leaburn, Zach Mitchell and maybe some physios. Beyond that, everything has changed

His career has been disjointed and he’s not had an opportunity to settle at one club which I think is often a problem. Definitely a footballer in there and I think if he finds a permanent home he might yet fulfill his promise. Don’t think that will be with us though.

Yeah I understand that and of course it would be better if it was more recent he had experience here but it does count In some ways Ie training facilities playing at the valley, was more to do with that really.

I'd love Jones to sign a player like Rak Sakhi but I have that horrible feeling we're going to see the same shit tactics as last season just to keep us up.

I remember up to Xmas when he was with us that Millwall wanted him on loan and I thought at the time they could have him. It wasn’t until Dean Holdsworth came he totally changed as a player and had a great 2nd half of the season. Did he just have a purple patch? 🤷‍♂️

He was ridiculously good, especially towards the end of the season he was pretty much taking the piss out of league 1 defences and getting regular goals and assists. He hasn’t replicated that in the championship yet though
