Ed Warrick Departs
Charlton Athletic have appointed Tony Brown to lead the club’s finance department as Interim Chief Financial Officer.
Brown brings extensive football finance experience and most recently spent over 12 years at Portsmouth. He joins Charlton with a strong track record of supporting sustainable growth and operational excellence at his previous clubs.
Brown’s appointment follows the departure of Ed Warrick, who has left the club to pursue other opportunities after three years.

An interesting departure and one that I would have not had 50p onRodwell still here from the announcement nearly 3 years ago. Charlie Boy and Young Ed now departed1
-
Interesting, as Warrick has had a much wider remit since Methven left, doing many of the tasks a CEO would.4

Always felt Warrick cared more about extracting every penny out of supporters than he did anything else. Of course that was part of his job but I'm not sure he got the balance right2

Wondering if there were issues between those involved regarding the supposedly upcoming new membership scheme eg the costs v the benefits for supporters.fenaddick said:Always felt Warrick cared more about extracting every penny out of supporters than he did anything else. Always found it a bit odd that our CFO was fractional rather than full-time. Tony Brown looks a safe pair of hands credentials-wise (but also might not want a long-term gig at this stage in his career, hence interim?). Hopefully we get a full time CFO here.2

When he came in he was announced as Group Finance Director and before his departure was seen as Chief Financial and Operating Officer at the club
Which if I’m correct we are now short of a CEO and a COO at the Valley0 -
£16 mill loss, BBC reported back in March.Hope we have some £ stuff under the bed for transfer budget0

Very sorry to see him go both on a personal and professional level, I'll miss his visits to have a cuppa and a chat in the museum.
I didn't work with him directly so can only judge him on our interactions but he came over as a decent, hard working guy on top of a wide brief.
Best wishes to him with whatever he's going on to.
On a wider point, I know people move on in business but I long for more stability within our admin side. Nothing against the new guy but interim doesn't fill me with confidence especially when we have no CEO.
Others will argue that we are making progress on and off the pitch, male and female, so no need to worry but getting it right in the back room is vital to getting it right on the grass.41 -

Echo Henners. I liked Ed. He was a friendly and personable guy and I wish him the very best for the future.3 -
This screams like a new owner/ownership group getting under the bonnet as such, and I’ve heard similar5

People do just move on for various reasons unrelated to takeovers.9 -

On Tony Brown, a Pompey fan and former employee tells me that he knows TB well and worked with him at Pompey. "I’d trust him to spend my last pound as if it were his own. He is a tough operator but ultimately fair. He’s a big Everton fan. As a Pompey fan, I can say he ran the finances there as if he were a Pompey fan himself. I’ve got a lot of time and respect for him, even if he and I did occasionally fall out. In the end, we learned to appreciate each others’ strengths and agree to differ when necessary."34

The statement is odd in that this feels quite rushed in terms of getting it out (no quotes short statement etc.), from an optics perspective doesn't feel like this is 'part of the plan' as it were. Good reviews for Tony Brown though and maybe I'm just reading into it too much2

I agree it's odd but bringing in someone isn't a quick thing, unless Warrick left weeks ago but that would be hard to keep quietYannTheMann said:The statement is odd in that this feels quite rushed in terms of getting it out (no quotes short statement etc.), from an optics perspective doesn't feel like this is 'part of the plan' as it were. The blurb from Pompey when he left them last season was that he managed to renegotiate certain contracts with creditors & ex-players & saved the club £1m.Fanny Fanackapan said:

Let’s see what the next six months brings. Ed was actively posting positively about Charlton on LinkedIn not long ago, and now we get a hastily announced departure via tweet, with no rumours beforehand.
I hope I’m wrong, because the current ownership has been excellent, but it does make me wonder whether there are changes happening behind the scenes. Let’s just hope any changes are for the better.

His departure was announced in a statement on the official website and then tweeted out. That's pretty standard from any football club these days.SheikhYurKory said:Let’s see what the next six months brings. I’m only repeating what I’ve been told. What I find weird is that no one heard about this prior! Happy to be proved wrong though

No doubt this process will take time, but it's more the manner of the announcement that's odd to me, compiled with the endless pointless statements we have been getting bi-weekly about how progress is great and people need to buy season tickets without a CEO in situ, it just all combines to make a strange picture. Let's hope we get some clarity soon!1 -

Oh Tony Brown, Won't Let You Down5 -
Didn’t we have an interim something or other from Portsmouth not so long ago during our various ownership crises?0
