Bit of a shocker for me, I only went to see an exhibition of his last weekend. 88.

I wasn't a big fan but could acknowledge his undoubtable talent.

    RIP David

That someone from Bradford could paint in such vibrant colours. Left a body of work that will be appreciated far into the future..

Didn't really know his work if I'm honest but I've had a look and yeah it's excellent.

If you see it on which I would presume it will be in the next few days then sky arts has some great documentaries on him and his work. Think one or two of them are presented by Melvyn Bragg.

Absolute monster of an artist, one of Britain's finest. Did so much for the art scene and such a great ambassador with his own unique style and personality. What often gets overlooked is that his impact goes far beyond the paintings themselves. His advocacy for art, museums, drawing, and public access to culture has been enormous. He became one of those rare artists who remained a public figure without losing his individuality—his distinctive visual style, outspoken opinions, and unmistakable personality made him a genuine ambassador for British art. RIP

I always used to feel that however much this country was losing the plot at least we still had David Hockney and all was fundamentally alright on our septic isle, sadly I can't say that anymore and that makes me very sad. A fabulous artist , a trailblazer and a real one off of a man- the coolest 88 year old goes to the great art studio in the sky. RIP.

His IPad stuff was amazing. Loved seeing such an old artist trying and succeeding in new media.

Still prefer the older stuff though.

I have an old pal who has an original Hockney signed self portrait.
Just spoke to him and he may now think of selling but that he will wait a while and see how the market for his work developes.
