The two names who interested me in the Saints list as well as Aribo were Alex McCarthy and Charlie Taylor

Would McCarthy be someone who could push Kaminski? Taylor is a solid left back / wing back who could provide depth in that position.
Not a chance on the keeper. Saints fans in general do not rate McCarthy. He had a bit of a run in the Prem years ago and they turned on him pretty badly because he's not great and since then he's generally managed to get a few games here and there because Gavin Bazunu is a stack of dress shoes disguised as a man, Aaron Ramsdale is Aaron Ramsdale and Joe Lumley is one of the worst goalkeepers ever to grace the EFL. McCarthy owes his long Saints career to Southampton's almost pathological inability to pick a decent keeper. He's also 36 years old and is finished at any reasonable level. If we're going to bring someone in to replace Kaminski it won't be an ancient reserve who had played 23 league games over the past 4 years

Is everyone forgetting that Aribo did the dirty on us by signing for Rangers, when out of contract, out of the jurisdiction of the FA. The jocks made the money out of him when selling to the Saints.

Well for me anyone who finishes a contract and makes it clear that he will not sign a new one is not wanted back.

Why? He went from playing in L1 to a European final, I wouldn’t begrudge anyone that

Wasn’t McCarthy the keeper for Yeovil in *that* game?

Of course he’s going to go to Rangers . It’s not as if he refused to play like Parker or Taylor . 🐀🐍

Since Bosman any player fulfilling his contract can walk away and sign for who he likes. I of course  recognise that, what I am saying is that I oppose resigning any player who does that. Now anyone we sell and choose in the future to resign is a different proposition.

Quite right. I said at the time it was folly to re'sign Chris Powell.
    And the next time.
    And the next time.

Hadn’t realised that Ross Stewart was released by Southampton.
Probably out of reach on wages but would be a great number 9 signing.

It's less that he was released and more that they failed to agree a new contract. He had a really good run in the second half of the season, got them up the table into the playoffs and got called up to the Scotland squad. He'll be looking at clubs miles above us as his next move

Think Stewart would be a brilliant signing but no good bringing in a player like that until you solve the creativity problem and get some wingers / Wing backs in who can actually cross a ball and supply chances …

Absolutely no chance, Southampton wanted to keep him rather than he was released. If he’s rejected Southampton he’s not going to be dropping down to us. He was probably on at least 20k a week so that’s the bare minimum he will be looking for in his next move

    Rak-Sakyi has been released

Chelsea have also confirmed that 21-year-old striker Ronnie Stutter will move to a month-to-month contract with the club.

    I didn’t know this was a thing.

It's known in the game as "contract stutter".

We've chartered a plane so that our new signings can fly back from the World Cup tonight ahead of being unveiled tomorrow, before flying back again for their first match.

Deschamps isn't happy, but Mbappé and Doue insisted on being unveiled at Sparrows Lane, rather than in the US.

Not The Top 20 seemed to think there was some lower end prem interest. He was superb vs Arsenal so might’ve swayed some

Maybe one of the newly promoted 3 then. Fitness record just would worry me with Stewart.

Why is he never injured?  That certainly would upset the rest of our players, him not having a residency in the treatment room like them.

Didn't Duchatelet withdraw or reduce a contract offer to Aribo in the second half of the season ?

Moved to Saints for a reported £6M. We probably got a drink out of it and only around £300k compo originally.

Not sure I agree with your take on the end of contract issue Starrinn', but I'm not certain how many successes we have had when we have brought former players back. Killer and Mike Flanagan may challenge that, Roger Johnson and Danny Mills, certainly don't.

Apparently we received the amount you say when he joined Rangers which I was unaware of. However we received nothing when he joined Saints.

Obviously I do not include loans as they are not our players. The best example of resigning a player was Eddie Firmani.
