I can’t imagine how bad something would have to be for me to feel compelled to spend any of the finite time I have on this earth complaining to a tv station.
You do realise that you just spent some of the finite time you have on this earth complaining about someone complaining to a TV station, se9?  ;):D

Made Theo Walcott look like Winston Churchill
Well, his impression of Winston Churchill was probably better than his impression of a professional footballer!

I've got no idea what side or what game was on but the ex Chelsea Ladies mamager was on pointing at a blackboard with O's and X's on it.  Seriously?  Are they dialling the graphics down now?

Emma Hayes utilising a chalk board for her hydration break analysis of Spain v Cape Verde was entertaining, innovative and must have blown most of the ITV WC punditry budget.
Proper old school, i enjoyed the lack of fancy graphics
Oh, oops, obviously posted the above without reading properly.

The bbc highlights had some team I’ve never heard of with co-commentary courtesy of an American guy watching “T’kneesya”

he was supporting our old mate Emma from BBC London I believe

Maybe they should actually get Rylan on.
He might know nothing about football but at least he’s pretty harmless and can string a sentence together.
They could just say it’s Giroud and he’s been working on his cockney/Essex accent.
  • I have to agree that Giroud was very poor. Realise he is a Frog and English is not his main language but he was like a snail on vallium.

You have to setup a meeting with Roy Keane in a Makro's car park.

Am I getting this right  ? The BBC aren't out there , the backdrop is via a bluescreen ?

As II said earlier, I dont generally listen to the pundits or watch the build up so haven't been paying attention to the "scenery".

The BBC have specially created a studio in Salford for the event. It’s not blue/green screen but it is in England not in America.

Loads of broadcasters do it now as although it’s a big outlay for some quality LED and a bunch of Brompton processors, it’s only a couple of tournaments before the savings you make on flying sycophants all over the world have paid you back.
I like the fact that this time the ITV one is actually in Brooklyn with a bit of LED around the edges to make the set look betterer….

I thought the bbc were going out there for the knock out stages but to save cost for the multitude of group stage games they elected to do it remotely. Seems like an OK call to me

The ITV studio location is incredible.

Their picture quality and Lee Dixon less so…

What's wrong with a backdrop of Salford 🤷‍♂️😄

The rot set in with Jonathan Pearce, with his incessant motor mouth style. On Capital Radio back in the 80's changed everything. He made the most boring game on radio sound like an end to end classic, which 99\100 it wasn't. What followed was a whole rake of commentators who had to entertain and in turn the double head presenting came along. We have the game analysed as its happening as if we the football supporter are completely ignorant of the game.
The woman on the BBC MOTD team really grinds my gears, I don't know her name but I switch off whenever she commentates, the female equivalent to Jonathan Pearce. Clive Tyldesley was and is my all time hate I would rather not watch an England or any game if he were on it.
For this world cup  ITV by far the worse team of commentators or pundits, to me, seem to have a panel playing good cop bad cop with Roy Keene not surprisingly playing the lead. The BBC have Micah Richards for comedy value, everything has to have him laughing at it at some point. The only pundit I really like is Ian Wright, despite being on ITV, even when he's wrong there some sense in what he is saying and to me seems quite genuine in the points he makes.
I don't really like watching football on TV, the presenting and commentary spoil it for me. For the most part I'll channel hop during the run up to kick off and at half time. Roll on August when we can have proper football back on the telly, (Charlton TV).

Both broadcasters are doing a good job of it, the ITV set up in New York looks great, but it's also smart of the BBC to do the groups from Salford, and then travel out later in the tournament.

Whilst acknowledging the fact that Giroud's English is a million times better than my French, I'm not the one being paid a (presumably signifcant) sum of money to talk to people in English. Whoever hired him for this gig needs to give their head a wobble.

Funny that I've never seen a male pundit during the women's matches.

    Sexism still exists .

If there's anything to complain about it's the absolutely abysmal (by design) state of the ITVX player. Whilst on every other platform known to man you can rewind and fast forward to your heart's content, ITV in their wisdom have decided to create a bug filled abomination of a video player missing even those basic features (unless you pay of course). The result is the only options you have are Play from Start (including all the pre-match waffle), Pause and Watch Live (thus allowing you to catch up with, and miss, all the action after you paused).

Takes real talent to produce something so bad when video playing is a solved problem with numerous high quality, freely available players you can get all the source code for and build a solid, functional solution.

Famously, for years. Jonas Eidevall was also a pundit at the 2022 Euros and 2023 World Cup. Nedum Onuoha was one of the pundits alongside Wright for the Euro 2025 final. If someone has never seen a male pundit during the women's matches then they haven't been paying much attention

It will come round again, look at the current mullet and moustache trend, who would have seen that coming 10 years ago?

Is there any reason why this commentator can't just say Congo instead of DR Congo every time he mentions them?
