If I had to choose between Anderson and Rankin Costello I would choose Anderson.

Disagree. You can get fitter and stronger which Rankin Costello needs to, I don’t think you can learn how to pick a pass and be better on the ball which Anderson needs to do and JRC is the best in our central midfield at currently.

If JRC started putting in those Parker-esque tackles Anderson can put in we’d have some midfielder.

JRC is basically Super Gilbey. He's still Gilbey at the core. You can't take the flimsiness out of the man

Exactly, Anderson is still young enough to improve a lot on the ball. He’s not played a full season as a first team regular yet, so let him do that this season in league 1 and it will make a huge difference. Then we can judge next summer whether he’s going to make it here or if not we sell him to league 1

Rankin-Costello is not going to have a physical transformation at 26. He’s good technically but Jones is probably never going to trust him because he’s not strong enough in the tackle or able to cover ground like our other midfielders

Stylistically Bosnia plays similarly to Jones Ball
wonder if we’re interested in any of those players.

I was vaguely aware of Hadžiahmetović when he was at konyaspor and know he was at hull on loan this season but I could not tell you how he did.

Even Dzeko plays similarly to dykes but I’m not advocating for signing a 48 year old
    What is Jones ball ?
Jones preferred style of play, ie highly energetic, direct, and defensively resolute, built on aggressive pressing and quick transitions to big men
    Ie hump ball........

JRC is Alex Gilbey and Karoy Anderson can be molded into Scott Parker.

    I've missed this place.

  • So with our first teams annual training camp ⛺️ trip to Slovenia 🇸🇮 announced and only 3 weeks away - we must be very close to some signings in these next 2 weeks how many do you think we will do before they fly ✈️ out ?

Anderson is so poor on the ball, and his decision making isn't Championship quality
The question for me is can Anderson improve his decision making, reading of the game, positioning etc and overall consistency quick enough to make it with us?

All those things come with experience, and if a player has them at a young age they’re likely capable of playing at a higher level.

If he does progress I don’t think his technical ability will be an issue given the way we play. Darren Pratley wasn’t technical but played for Swansea who were a possession based side at the time.

Worth giving Anderson more time, and the club probably still think so, he signed a new contract early last season. Probably needs another loan though.

JRC has a very similar skillset to Gilbey except he can at least pass the ball. But - not strong in the tackle, not that fast, but with a surprising ability to skin an opponent - it's the exact same mould of player

Nice to see we are playing a team that have regularly been in the champions league, be a good test.

I don't think so. I reckon we won't have any new players in for pre season due to the world cup

    Anderson is 21.
Way too young to come to a final judgement about what he might be like at the same age as JRC.
The ‘undisclosed’ fee for JRC has been rumoured to be £750,000. The known fee for Karoy Anderson is wrapped up within the cost of the Academy.
Karoy also said VFR is his favourite chant, because Charlton is ‘my club’.
I so hope Anderson (and Kanu) stay and prove the doubters wrong as they mature.
We can't afford to hold onto players for another 5 years in case they get better

    Probably true.
But can we afford to buy Apter, Ahadme and some others we have wasted money on?
All ‘mature’ decent players started out as young players somewhere.

The theory was there, nice technical midfielder with a good injury record and ability to play RWB in a bind. It hasn’t worked out yet but that’s ok, you can’t get every signing right

Well I'm fairly sure JRC was at least second choice (behind Galbraith who turned us down) and quite possibly more. He wasn't the ideal choice but we needed someone in that role and he did fit enough of the criteria that he might have been successful.

As it turns out he's not really been all we hoped but it wasn't a completely out of nowhere signing - good technical skills, Championship experience and a bit of versatility are all things we wanted and he provided, at least in theory.
