If he didn't, we'd need two. An extra option up front is definitely on the shopping list but a fit Godden is definitely a useful thing to have around even if its only a backup/reserve option.Leuth said:Godden signing a new contract...he'd be nice to have around, but nothing really to cheer. We definitely need one more option up front2 -

Would be great news. Would love to see Ramsay and Kanu sign too.
Whilst a completely different type of player, I would hope that Godden signing would mean we stop talks with Dykes.
We would have Godden, Kelman, Leaburn, M'Bick and hopefully one more. We don't really need more than that in numbers (I am working on an assumption we sell TC as not convinced he will sign up again and that Kanu will either be sold or loaned out).1 -

Jones signing a new deal would be much more of a statement than Godden staying on. One of the best "defensive" defenders in the division, he could easily be playing for any club in the Championship.
Godden staying on is a no brainer for both parties. NJ clearly loves him, while Godden is settled and won't be after a fortune in wages.10 -
I'm not too sure about Godden. In this league I'd be disappointed if he is a starter and he is hardly a game-changer to bring off the bench. Decent player but at his age, L1 is his level.10

Based on what ?...didn't get a chance to show last season, and will be up for it next season...Gisappointed said:I'm not too sure about Godden. Godden was a regular scorer in the Championship.4

I think there’s one more decent season in Matty Godden. Not starting week in week out but used when needed and off the bench. Get enough ball to him inside the 18 yard box and he’ll do ok.16

Tbh I have concerns with Godden but they all revolve around his ability to stay fit, especially as he approaches the autumn of his career, and I thought he might be one of the ruthless decisions we could make.0

We need to keep him given our lack of quality upfront.mart77 said:Tbh I have concerns with Godden but they all revolve around his ability to stay fit, especially as he approaches the autumn of his career, and I thought he might be one of the ruthless decisions we could make.3 -
Exactly how I'd use him and I'd still want another striker in the building anyway.ShootersHillGuru said:I think there’s one more decent season in Matty Godden. Not starting week in week out but used when needed and off the bench. Get enough ball to him inside the 18 yard box and he’ll do ok.1 -
A game changer off the bench is exactly what he’d be. Watching us in the Championship really highlighted the difference between Godden and our other strikers in terms of his movement and anticipation in and around the box.Gisappointed said:I'm not too sure about Godden. With 9 subs we easily have room for different types of game changers if we have them in the squad.8 -
I think I agree with you ,great servant in div 1 but with age and injuries think Championship might now be a step to far ,I would rather our younger players get the chanceGisappointed said:I'm not too sure about Godden. as a player Godden probably has another year in him - but if we can get him acting as more of a coach and a mentor he could be worth so much more to us. As a player he has a genuine knack for being in the right pace at the right time and you simply cannot buy that skill - but you can share it.11

Never been able to decide if you're an elaborate troll or not, so I'll take this comment at face value for the time being.Gisappointed said:I'm not too sure about Godden. You are just completely wrong about him being a game-changer off the bench. He absolutely would be. There is no-one else in our squad, except Kelman, who I think would have been able to score e.g. his goal at Watford (yes the defending was atrocious, but I mean technically). Having him around, on what is likely a more financially friendly deal than taking a punt on someone who doesn't know the club and the system, is a calculated risk for us, and I think he'd serve a very useful squad role - especially in terms of youngsters learning from him.

I don't agree that he is a game changer, but Godden is the definition of what you want to bring on when you are chasing a game and need to Nick a goal, he is the best finisher at the club. Kelman is my favourite forward in the squad, and I think a lot of the intelligent runs he makes and his hold-up play are underated, but if we are 1-0 down with 10 mins left I'd rather throw godden on and tell him to make sure he is in the penalty area every time we go forwardPaddyP17 said:

Godden has averaged around 6 goals a season in the championship which is less than what Kelman had last year. His history in the championship is as a role player. If we are expecting anything more than that at his age we are kidding ourselvesraytreacy said:Godden was a regular scorer in the Championship.5 -
If you look at Godden’s goal to minute ratio in the championship and it’s much more impressive. When he’s coming on for 15 mins when Coventry had gyokores up top he didn’t get much more than cameosBostonaddick said:
