I had the rare pleasure of watching on BBC One and through my Freesat box rather than iPlayer. In the immediate aftermath, Shearer was actually laying into Prince Adu for his loose touch in the penalty box, which allowed Konsa to (apparently) slide in and block his shot. I have to say that at the time, when we were just being shown a slow-mo from the centre line cameras, that's exactly how it looked. It was only after the game, when they started showing us the slo-mos from the goal line, that we saw a completely different picture. We might therefore suppose that the ref had a similar perspective to the initial TV slo-mos, but of course that's exactly why VAR is supposed to be there.fenaddick said:
I watched the Tifo livestream after the match and they were saying that they had comments from various different nations saying their commentators didn't mention it either. I can't work out why, it was a stonewall penaltyChris_from_Sidcup said:Didn't see any post-match analysis but what was the general opinion on English tv of the Konsa non-penalty?
Personally i was surprised so little was made of it at the time. He's dived in with both feet off the ground, got nowhere near the ball and made contact with the striker. How on earth is it not a pen?
I'd be absolutely fuming if that's at the other end on Kane.
Prince Adu definitely had something to say about it once he had got to his feet.0 -

We struggle to break it down because we don't react or adapt to it. We continued to play slow possession-based football, which doesn't suit this Tuchel side. He needed to get them moving the ball quicker - which happened when he introduced Eze and Rogers to be fair, but it was too late.raytreacy said:We find it hard to unlock teams who put so many players behind the ball. I thought Gordon and Madueke were poor. I think Rashford and Saka when fit, should play. Also disappointed with Bellingham.

Haven't watched a single game yet, and mental health is better for it...

Pickford is going to cost us at some point, he’s been rather lucky lately getting away with mistakes, but it’s gonna bite us on the arse. He’s a fucking fruitloop!!4

It was a vintage England performance in many ways. After the Lord Mayor's show and all that. They were just so static and one-paced in possession for the first 60-70 minutes. At the end of the match, I said to no one in particular "The most Englandish England anyone has ever Englanded."
That being said, I think the last 20 minutes was better. Rashford and Saka in particular made a big difference. I hate to be "that guy," buy Rashford put in well whipped crosses into the box really did make a big difference and got the Ghana defense back peddling. I believe it was from that that the chance came.
I think this is a good England team with a good coach who will learn from this. I know the watchword of the day was "patience." I think England were a little too patient in the first half and relied a little too heavily on set pieces.
Panama will be interesting because they play in a very similar manner, without the quality that Ghana have. I think England get a test straight away to see just how much they learned from last night--which is good, because in the knockouts they will come up against tough to break down sides who offer more on the counter than Ghana did (penalty shout aside).1 -
No tea party in Boston then. What a dire, tedious mix of same meat different gravy. Quite possibly the best watch of paint drying excitement on view at the World Cup to date.0
