    Yes, who remain one of the three largest polluters on the planet and have contributed heavily to the current situation.

    It's very good news they are changing behaviors.... hence point number 2 in my post.

    If only this were true, but there are so many that don't believe that man has an impact on global warming, that is the problem. As others have pointed out, social media is a big problem for spreading mis/disinformation.

    Yeah that argument is 15 years out of date and has been use to excuse poor policy and for the UK and others to abscond from its responsibilities on the climate. 

    Every individual has power to influence government and industry through their purchasing decisions. Through purchasing decisions (every choice to turn down fast fashion or similar and choose a more sustainable option will lead companies to move towards those) through voting, through activism, through the choices you make. 

    This book is great on this. It doesnt fall for the "individual responsibility means your carbon footprint" argument but demonstrates how your decisions can build towards true systemic change.

    This is a thread about a record breaking heatwave, talking about the causes of that is perfectly justifiable. If just a few more actually start to think that there may be something in this 'man made global warming talk', then the discussion is worth it. There are still far too many believing the lies of those with a vested interest in continuing to damage the climate and all the life on the planet.

    Yeah I do similar. I also track movement of the sun, first thing in the morning its at the front of the house and then by about 10:30 it appears around the back so I make sure I am shut up before then as it will just blaze the back of the house until it sets.

    Wind just blew a bit and for the first time it felt "warm" so think I will close up now, at 26.7 degrees ffs...

    Definitely feel like the baseline for temperature in the house is higher each day like it's baked into the bricks, so it doesn't even need to keep getting hotter for the heat in the house to be higher if that makes sense...

    Whats happening in India is bad as well. Many left without water and power. Wells that have run for hundreds of years are running dry, large numbers of excess deaths. Scary how much of the world is experiencing these things all at the same time.

    Agree. House is definitely holding the heat more each day. Have seen things saying to hose off the outside of your house late in the evening to drop the temperature of the walls but cant bring myself to do that as feels like a waste of water. Will need some rain to do that, hopefully some of what is forecast friday night and saturday materialises and resets indoor temps. 

    Today I am monitoring but as there is more of a breeze I may open some windows at the front to let some fresh air in but depends on how hot it gets.

    If you got the ability to look at the inside and outside temperature then when the outside temperature is 2c lower than the inside then at night open the required windows, during the day you reverse it so shut the windows, however as Cantrsadick say if you get strong sunlight coming through a window then shut the curtains / blind regardless whatever the temperature is. 

    Hope that helps, another tip is when the house is shut up, if you got a fan running place a bowl of water in front of it, or better if available an ice block.

    Hosing the walls? Yeah I see what you mean about a waste of water, but I'd be more worried about my neighbours seeing and thinking I was going insane!  :D

    Seen some good tips on here, I think I'll be doing the set the parasol up thing to block from the back windows.

    This Spring has been the warmest on record in the UK.  

    This June has had the highest-ever recorded June temperature in the UK. 

    But... this June is not (yet) the hottest on record in the UK.  For that, you have to go all the way back to 2025.

    What you got to remember is the air can only move from high pressure to low pressure, (high pressure - high temperature and vica versa) therefore if the air in the room is higher than outside air will transfer from hot to cold via a window or door, this works well and from memory the theory goes back to the ancient Egyptians.

    My top tip is to just sit in your car for 10 minutes with the a/c on. Cools you right down!

    Diesel cars ideal for this as they barely use any fuel idling.

By contrast, UK carbon emissions are at their lowest since 1879 (with a much bigger population). On a per capita basis carbon emissions in China are more than twice those in the UK.  

    Incidentally, India's emissions are low on a per capita basis - half of the UK's - but unfortunately rising rapidly.

    My daughter’s was closed Wed & Today but they’ve just announced they’re closing tomorrow as well. She’s very happy as she’s going to see Harry Styles tomorrow and was going to have to make an excuse to leave early
