No need to get your nickers in a twist because someone has a different opinion. If he doesn’t sign a new contract then fair enough we will need to sell. Though £2m would be a poor deal if that’s the case
I doubt we would get anywhere near that.
So you would rather let a player go for nothing rather than receive some money. I hope you don't own a business.Would you have sold Aribo and Bauer at the start of the 2018/19 season too?
If we aren’t getting decent bids for Jones, TC and Ramsay then we might as well keep them because getting relegated will cost a lot more than those small bids. Not sure if he’s too old yet but we might even get some money for TC next summer anywayWhat has this got to do with the comment I replied to? Which was talking about the sale of one player, Campbell.

No offence intended but I found it a very grim place and with the usual suspects turning it into a never ending moan-a-thon. The moderator seems to despise every aspect of CAFC. Very odd for a supposed Charlton chat board.raytreacy said:

Football isn’t a normal business. There are plenty of examples where keeping the player is worth more than a small transfer fee. As I said if we can’t get a good fee then there is no point selling, we need to stay up and a small transfer fee isn’t going to help as much as TC is. If it was only £2m you aren’t replacing him with that4 -

3 goals and 2 assists last season is not good enough. We can get better.Better would appear to cost £10m quid in this league.
And in terms of getting a replacement for said £10m player, Campbell appears to be one of the few available considered suitable.
Supply and demand would suggest that £2m is ridiculously cheap.I would also suggest that we need to start setting out some markers that we are not a soft touch. If we are going to survive and go on to flourish we need to become a buy low sell high football club.
Something we haven’t done for quite a long time.6 -

Not really bothered that there's not been any incomings yet , expect we'll probably spend similar amounts to last summer budget wise but hopefully use it a bit more wisely and a change of tack away from the best of L1 and more towards Europe in the main.
Would expect any loans to come very late in the window because at least the PL sides will need their fringe/U21 prospects for Preseason tours.
Probably a lot more YouTube compilations of trying to figure out if the level of the European league a rumoured target is playing in to come

Conflicting rumours then, a few posters saying the player budget has been slashed and @21cws saying it’s £18m this season, a modest increase and fits Carter’s comments last season that the plan is to increase the budget to a mid level championship side within 5 years. We shall see who’s right by deadline day. If the budget needs to be slashed then we will be cashing in on any players that could command a respectable fees.1

I think he has the talent for sure but I am also of the thinking he wasn't good enough for a lot of last season with final ball, general passing along with lack of goals.
He needs to be a winger where he grew in confidence, someone put a heat map up earlier but the majority of that would him at LWB and if he is drifting that wide when named as a striker then he isolates his partner because he isn't anticipating/anywhere near flick ons and not getting into the box enough when the ball does make its way in there from crosses.
I think it's okay to say he can do better, because he can.
1 -
To be fair, I think he's clearly instructed to pull wide whenever he can, with the RWB pushing up as a winger on the other side. But I'm sure you're right that NJ will want him to gamble a lot more in the box when we have it on the right.king addick said:

Jones doesn't often mince his words, the last we have heard from him was praise for the ownership, stability and their plans for improvement this summer.Carter likewise, has been consistent with the messaging around budget and our short term goals. These rumours come about every season and are only driven by the fact we haven't spent money on signings yet. Last season we had only made the single signing of Carey by now on a free.We are starting from a stronger squad position and our recruitment team have had a year to work on this summer's strategy. The club have a budget, we will make signings, we will have departures. I expect to see a few come in from the 1st July.29
-
Personally the first news I would like to hear about is news of:
Ahadme
Olafe
Apter
A Mitchell
JRC
Burke
If we get to a leaner and fitter more appropriate squad, then we create the space for signings, or for players coming through.
I would also, at long last, like us to get the Gomez bonus.
5 -
In an ideal world yes, in a realistic one, probably not. Even assuming money is no issue and we manage to sell/release them all, doing so without having at least a few bodies in first is not happening. Getting rid of that many people is too risky if we end up missing out on their intended replacements/upgrades, or we get someone in who gets a fluke injury in preseason.jose said:Personally the first news I would like to hear about is news of:

I fully agree that pretty much all of those on that list will need to be moved on at some point but I don't see it happening quickly, or en masse.0 -

The reason i say this is because some dickhead put on Twitter the other day about Lloyd Jones to West Ham for £2m.
Many of us laughed
I have since seen it with increasing levels or "certainty" on 4 or 5 other twitter posts and at least two facebook groups and an instagram group - all using "sources believe" or "I'm told". But suddenly some pre-pubescent kid living in a dreamworld has got a spurious rumour in front of thousands and thousands of people and it's not helpful - not least because it's likely to be absolute crap. But it causes animosity between rival fans, unnerves players and it all just so unnecessary.
So I ask again - can you elaborate a little or are we just to take this as a bit of mischief?28 -
Far be it for me to take this thread off topic , but we haven't heard from or seen Nathan Jones for quite a while ?2
-
Our summer budget might be less than originally planned because we brought the signing of Sichenje forward. At the time it was said that he was a planned summer signing, but we moved to sign him in January instead.
So does that therefore mean our summer budget is 1.7m (i think that's what he cost) less?2 -

Clubs like ours who are trying to bridge that gap from a promoted team to a mid-table team in the championship is very difficult.. you can’t go in splashing the cash that will only end in one way .. our owners are doing it the right way making sure the structure of the club is right , not putting the the club at a massive financial risk .. which some seem to be happy with …. fact is our own success has cost us getting promoted 12 months earlier then planned , financially been difficult but they still found in the region 30 mill to invest in the team last season and this summer which they deserve all the credit for.. but we not silly 98% of supports understand that still short of majority of budgets in this league and know that staying in this league again this season has to be number one priority anything above were we finished last season will be excellent season

If we can find the players with more attacking threat In other areas of the pitch then I’m of the opinion we will get more out of Campbell.10

Just asked AI to go through all the posts in this thread to see if there are any transfer rumours (so I didn't have to) and their final comment made me laugh -
The Takeaway: If you are looking for concrete names of players signing for the club on this page, you won't find them. The current vibe is a holding pattern—expecting a shift toward European market signings rather than League One targets, with any Premier League loan business dropping much later in the window.9 -

If it was only £2m you aren’t replacing him with that
3 goals and 2 assists last season is not good enough. We can get better.1 -
IF he learns to keep his head up, scan the pitch, stop trying to beat an opponent twice and learns to make a decent cross and goal making pass, then we will have a player worth £5-10 Million .. he's still young so there's still hope, but for me, sadly, hope is fading fast .. best use for Campbell is as a substitute, this hurts his pride and makes him more dangerous and aggressive when he's called uponCafcSCP said:If we can find the players with more attacking threat In other areas of the pitch then I’m of the opinion we will get more out of Campbell.1 -
I know they have not quite done it yet - but would be really disappointed if Campbell and Karoy left. Just feels like short-term thinking.
