June heat record broken for third day in a row

The UK heat record for June has been broken again, reaching 36.9C in Wattisham, Suffolk.

The Met Office said temperatures continue to rise.

Yesterday, it reached 36.7C in Merryfield, Somerset, while on Wednesday 36.1C was recorded at Gosport.

All three of those temperatures broke the 50-year-old record of 35.6C, recorded in Southampton in 1976.

Our houses are good at keeping heat in and there are even ratings to this effect but that makes them crap in regards to keeping heat out in Summer. With a changing climate, this is surely a problem. JJ the dog panting a lot Bought a cooling bandana from pets at home and you soak it in cool water and put it on and it works for an hour or so.

Yes, it's about £7 more expensive.

My thoughts are with those who have to work outside in this weather.

My son started as a green keeper at Sundridge Park Golf club 6 months ago.

First 3 months all he did was moan about the weather.....rain, rain & more rain.

This week all he had done is moan about the heat. Management did say that they could finish early so they werent out in the sun all day.  But this has meant starting at 5.30am !

Not all bad though......he has managed to chat to Mick McCarthy and Lyle (spit) Taylor.

No need for a paternity test in your household
And he's the positive one !

And then you let you're dog wear it..

Escaped London this afternoon. Finished early and raced down to the coast to Camber Sands. Was about 5 degrees colder and properly windy. Which made it feel actually cool. The sea though was lovely, like getting into a Bath, I've genuinely never felt the sea like it in the UK. Water temperature was warmer than I've felt in Africa and the Caribbean!

Sorry to say the sea down at Camber is often like a bath that about 20 people have pissed and shat in and the warmth is probably because 50% of the water has been emptied out of a human within the last 10 minutes.

I really like Camber Sands, the long, sandy, shallow beach, with a high tide, makes the water lovely. Traffic can be a problem at weekends though.

This was fun earlier. That '32mm in an hour' was not an exaggeration... 🥴

Kept cool yesterday making 'instant ice'. Well, not that cool, but it was good fun for a short while. Still photo doesn't do it justice though.

Hopefully this is the last day of the extreme heat in the south east. Last night was the worst night of the week, so hot and humid and very difficult to sleep. I hope that it's the last of the extreme heatwaves for this year.

Pretty sure July and August will offer some extreme heat.

Sadly  you're probably right, it's likely to be the new norm with climate change really taking a hold.

New heatwave looks like it’s arriving in time for next weekend in the south east at least

Yes, we all know that 1976 was extremely hot, but a temperature taken on a court, probably in the sun, surrounded by a lot of people and stadium infrastructure, is likely to be very hot, just like a car sitting on hot tarmac is likely to be very hot. Official temperatures are taken under very strict controls.

Tennis fans suffer, don't they? Imagine having to suffer that heat AND have Cliff Richard singing at you. Horrific!

Official temperatures are taken under very strict controls and greg docherty has the same skill set as Zinedine Zidane.

You have said the word extreme heat multiple times and that it is caused by climate change then explain how it happened 50 years ago, oh right because the tennis court was hot, or maybe a few cows were in the audience and farted to raise the temperature. Some people see the negative in everything and unfortunately there is an “extreme” amount of you every time it gets above 28 degrees.
