Escaped London this afternoon. Finished early and raced down to the coast to Camber Sands. Was about 5 degrees colder and properly windy. Which made it feel actually cool. The sea though was lovely, like getting into a Bath, I've genuinely never felt the sea like it in the UK. Water temperature was warmer than I've felt in Africa and the Caribbean!
You’re having a laugh 😆 here you are going on about climate change but wizzing off on long distance flights to Africa and the Caribbean, flooring it down to camber sands, thought you lot lived in the woods and went to centre parks for holidays. By the sounds of it your air miles have caused this heatwave shame on you

Tennis fans suffer, don't they? Imagine having to suffer that heat AND have Cliff Richard singing at you. Horrific!
    …and having to watch tennis.

Official temperatures are taken under very strict controls and greg docherty has the same skill set as Zinedine Zidane.

You have said the word extreme heat multiple times and that it is caused by climate change then explain how it happened 50 years ago, oh right because the tennis court was hot, or maybe a few cows were in the audience and farted to raise the temperature. Some people see the negative in everything and unfortunately there is an “extreme” amount of you every time it gets above 28 degrees.

The current heatwave has seen some very extreme temperatures, not only in the UK but across Europe too.

I am sorry if you don't like the word extreme, but it is pretty extreme when the ambulance services have said that they have been dealing with the highest number of category 1 call outs that they have ever had. If you don't know a Cat 1 call out is life threatening.

It is pretty extreme when hospital have to cancel scans because the machines can't cope with the extreme heat.

It's pretty extreme when schools have to close because classrooms are too hot.

The fact is that we are experiencing very extreme weather.

The newspaper article you have posted is being posted by numerous climate change deniers, all across social media. Had the temperature been taken on a full Centre Court at Wimbledon this week, I'm sure that it would have been well above 104F

Nobody has said that 1976 wasn't hot, it was, but it's memorable because it was a one off.

Heatwaves have happened before, but they are now happening increasingly, with the last 20 years seeing a big increase.

Why do you think that the 97% of the world's climate scientists are wrong?  They agree that global warming is caused by increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The increase being down to the actions of humans burning fossil fuels and intensive animal farming.

I know I don't have to read the thread, but I struggle with which side is worse.
The climate change deniers/perhaps trolls or the other side who seem to revel in their never ending misery.

For all of the anger on this thread it amounts to "man shouts at cloud". Both of these things are true:

    1. Global warming is real, and it is happening.
    2. We have never been more aware about man's impact on this and we are addressing it.

Shouting and putting up graphs doesn't change a thing. We each have an individual responsibility to do the right thing and make conscious choices which don't damage the planet on a daily basis.... simple as that. Go about your lives with awareness and enjoy yourself!

Unless you have the ability to personally lobby China, the US and India, then sadly your righteous anger is wasted.
    @Gribbo will look into it.
I would, but I'm currently on the sofa in me undercrackers with the air con on full bast
Fuck sake, that’s an image I am struggling with mate.
Please tell me you haven’t opted for the string vest combo.

I can assure I'm not revelling in the misery of this horrible weather. I want to see a nice summer day without the extreme heat and humidity of the last few days.

It's a shame we can't get everyone to pull together to get governments to do the things that would reduce the chances of the extreme weather that affects everyone and every living thing.

The world did it with the banning of CFCs that damaged the Ozone layer. We need to do the same to reduce the Greenhouse gases that are heating the planet.

    Not revelling in the heat.

Revelling in being able to post on CL about how awful it is.

It just goes on forever like Covid, long after most others had learnt to move on.

Most people agree with most of the posts, it's just that they don't post the same type of stuff continuously, trying to convince everyone what they already know.

Hex knows his weather and posts the odd informative piece, in a helpful, non condescending manner.

Imagine the kids just about to finish the school year and moving on to something different in September.

The headteacher contacts the parents and says sorry the children have to complete year 6 again.

But why exclaim the parents, 95% of the kids passed the end of year exam and have enough knowledge to move on?

Sorry says the headteacher, but our teachers only like teaching a couple of subjects, so the pupils are just going to have to be taught the same subject indefinitely, even though it's completely pointless.
