Hard for me to decide between 1970 and 1990. 1970 was the first WC I was really old enough to appreciate and had some fantastic games and the brilliant Brazil team who played some scintillating football.
1990 was blessed with great games, characters and plenty of drama. It really helped football back into the mainstream.

1982 as it's the first I properly remember.
1990 from an England perspecitve0 -
1970 - mind you would have been even better with Hydration breaks.0
-
1974 - they didn't win but that Netherlands side including Cruyff, Neeskins, Rep, Krol etc was one of my favourite teams of all time.2

1970 followed by 19900

1990. I frequently hear that it was a boring tournament football-wise, but I loved all of it. Was only 10 years old, which is probably prime age for being completely engrossed in a tournament, regardless of the standard.
Loved the England shirt, the New Order song, Pavarotti and last England team when players were normal human beings rather than arrogant overpaid celebrities.
1998 - saw an interview with Glenn Hodge recently, where he was bemoaning England's lack of faith in flair players in the 1970s. This coming from the guy that left out Gazza and continually ignored Le Tissier.
2002 to 2010 - the Golden Generation. A bunch of overpaid prima donnas who couldn't put aside their club differences and never looked like winning a trophy, despite the abundance of talent. Also the lines of Steven Gerrard being injured for every friendly and then miraculous for again for Liverpool's next game.
2018 onwards - love it again. Whatever criticisms there are of Southgate's tactics, he made England a team again, and something that every player takes price in being involved with.1 -
1990 for me as it was the first one i watched.
Can still remember staying up late for the Belgium game and running around the house celebrating when Platt scored in the last minute of extra time.

1990 followed by 86 . The first I remember was 78 in Argentina but disgracefully we didn’t qualify. Still a great World cup tournament though .1

Understandable. Glenn Hodge divided opinions, Glenn Hoddle, bit of a prick.Fumbluff said:

1982:
Best England shirt
Best Brazil team I've ever seen
Best World Cup foul ever by Schumacher
Best World Cup Semi Final - France v West Germany
Also the first World Cup I can remember.4 -
1998 for me.
I was 12 and football was everything (guess it’s the age where you have developed your own footballing consciousness but haven’t started getting distracted by girls yet!).It helped that, for a young Addick unaffected by the pressures of adulthood, the world was the best it could possibly be as Charlton had just won an incredible playoff final to be promoted to the Premier League. Then came a World Cup (and both England & Scotland had qualified this time!). 1994 I was a bit young and only saw bits of it, plus no home nation interest. What also massively helped in 1998 was that the matches were on at good times so I think I watched pretty much every game.It was a brilliant time to be that age & a Charlton fan, made for the best summer a boy could have!3
