England v Mexico pubs
Anyone got any recommendations for pubs/bars in South or Central London showing the game on Sunday night?
Not keen on Boxpark type places. Looking for a vibrant atmosphere but without numpties throwing pints in the air.

I think the Redwood at London Bridge is open.
I've got no idea on my strategy to drink/stay awake/watch it yet. Just booked Monday off, that's it.1 -
Are people still doing that? Was hoping that particular awful trend had passed.MrLargo said:Anyone got any recommendations for pubs/bars in South or Central London showing the game on Sunday night?

Seeing various videos online there are still many whoppers that do it. I see a video yesterday of some big chunky gimp launching his pint into the crowd and celebrating when rashford hit the side netting.se9addick said:

seen plenty of videos of divs launching their pint when it's not even a goal.
that sort of shit alone puts me off any sort of fan park etc.
twats who never really watch football but buy and England shirt and turn up. No wonder it kicks off so much in big group viewing like those9 -
Pubs round my way are all opening
Gonna be a very wealthy Albanians come Tuesday morning 😂8 -
That’s basically my experience of watching an England match in any pub. Watch the match on your own at home, the beer will be cheaper and the company better.Elthamaddick said:seen plenty of videos of divs launching their pint when it's not even a goal.

This is the best kick off so far for me, 8am Monday morning, have also booked the day off.WSS said:I think the Redwood at London Bridge is open.

Don't really want to watch the game in a pub full of pissed up people.
I shall probably have a few drinks early doors then go to bed.
Set the alarm for 12.30 get up have a shower then watch the game with a mug of strong coffee.5 -
Such weird behaviour.WSS said:

No doubt there is a market for it as pubs would not open, going to a pub at 1am does not have much of an appeal for me.For the ones in there, I can see them being either very drunk or falling asleep during the game.Perhaps I'm getting old.3

It's painful enough watching England at 5.00pm. not sure I could handle it at 1 am.
Sorry I am a miserable bugger when it comes to England.1 -

Government rules out extending pub hours for England v Mexico game

Don't trust myself not to fall asleep at home! Will be relying on strategically timed double espressos throughout the evening and very moderate alcohol consumption before the game to ensure sobriety and awakeness.ElfsborgAddick said:No doubt there is a market for it as pubs would not open, going to a pub at 1am does not have much of an appeal for me.For the ones in there, I can see them being either very drunk or falling asleep during the game.Perhaps I'm getting old.
There will undoubtedly be some nightmare venues full of the drunks, idiots, and drunken idiots. It would be helpful if pubs published statistics on the number of obnoxious punters they had for each England game, to help me know where to avoid.2 -
Suspect most who wanted to stay open would have applied to local council in advance for the dateclive said:Government rules out extending pub hours for England v Mexico game

To confine supporters to one part of towns and cities, I gather all Wetherspoons are showing the game.

I'm not throwing a £7 pint anywhere except down my neck.10

A shot of baileys and a shot of bourbon does wonders for a black coffee.bobmunro said:ElfsborgAddick said:No doubt there is a market for it as pubs would not open, going to a pub at 1am does not have much of an appeal for me.For the ones in there, I can see them being either very drunk or falling asleep during the game.Perhaps I'm getting old.Yes you are, Elfs - it happens to us all.I'll be at home with a constant supply of black coffee (and perhaps a whisky or three).1 -
Agreed. Looking forward to a 7am kick off. The 3am and 4am kick offs just made that day a write off afterwards.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Going to get a nap in until around 10.30pm, have invited a few mates round mine (perfectdraft and blade kegs on) for 11pm, catch up with them for a bit then watch the game, strict curfew after the match as I have to go to work (from home) on Monday0
-
2am kickoff here... Worst possible kickoff time, too early to go to bed and get up, and late enough that if it goes to extra time the likelihood of me getting more than an hours sleep before work is 00
-
The only issue with that is the Brazil v Norway game is on at 9pm.Huskaris said:Going to get a nap in until around 10.30pm, have invited a few mates round mine (perfectdraft and blade kegs on) for 11pm, catch up with them for a bit then watch the game, strict curfew after the match as I have to go to work (from home) on Monday1 -
Couldn't think of a worse way to spend the small hours. Shame on the government for encouraging false hope too.
And perhaps you are a changed man mrlargo, at a new central London address?, but do you expect to rely on public transport to get you home from there!?0 -
Early forecast of a thunderstorm possibility around kick off time in Mexico city. That would delay things and be a nightmare.
I'm off on the Monday so have volunteered to stay up and be the designated waker uperer just before whenever kick off may be.
Mexico 86 vibes1 -
Fortunately the pubs so far have been relatively ok when iv watched the England games. However, have seen the booming music build up, pint chucking, under 30,s venues on my way out. Why, anybody thinks launching a pint over a load of strangers is acceptable is beyond me.Personally I can’t see the average local pub, is going to think it’s not worthwhile opening. Unless they sell Tickets for a £5/£10 and you get that back over the bar. This will let them know possible numbers, an if you don’t turn up, still a £10 towards staff costs.2
