I get all that and I agree but we do need one bit of serious quality in the middle of the pitch.....jose said:For me it seems that ‘evolution’ for Nathan Jones means more of the same, only a bit better.
I for one am pleased.
To me it means doubling down on fierceness, being a 100 minute team and finishing better than opponents, and if that leads to narrow victories but survival in the first instance then all well and good.
I don’t want us to go all florid and fancy, but plenty of supporters will want that. We don’t have the resources to be Versailles, but the brutalist architecture of the National Theatre will suit us better right now.
Starting by signing defenders, ones who are red in tooth and claw is a good platform. Narrow results with hopefully enough 1-0 wins for us is acceptable to me, we at least will double down on our identity, and Nathan Jones will piss off a lot of opposition people much to my amusement (but still harbouring a secret desire that we can become Brazil 1970😀).
Get into them, f**k ‘em up.1 -
Haven’t we seen this kind of thing before? Lower league player gets linked with Championship or big L1 club, later signs for a smaller club.Watch him sign for a middling L1 club in the next week.5

Many people hear what they want to hear.8

He might even sign for Leicester, although it seems unlikely. Then they can say "we beat off Championship interest"Scoham said:Haven’t we seen this kind of thing before? As long as he doesn’t end up with us. It would be a failure of a window if he’s the supposed answer to our lack of goals1

If you watch carefully, Nathan's eyes are blinking "Help Me" in morse code.Rothko said:So the response to this interview goes from, the sensible, 'ah well, Nathan looks happy and future looking', to the wild, 'it's basically a hostage video'15 -
Can't see there being anything in this at all. Just because we've signed from Scotland this week and will want a striker it feels like we're being thrown in by an agent to drum up interest.Scoham said:Haven’t we seen this kind of thing before? Will end up somewhere in the middle of League 1 ultimately.1 -
Honestly I don't know how this didn't get it's own thread for the sheer amount of BS posted around it, the user that started the whole story even tried tying in TalkSport journos who came out and said it's utterly rubbish. Just a kid trying to get some likes on Twatter in the endDOUCHER said:
probably the most significant piece of news posted this year (let's hope he's not off to millwall!!!)CB1 said:

He didn’t say that, he said that they are competing against teams with bigger budgets (true), and that we really have to work hard to sell our vision.golfaddick said:
According to NJ in his video that is our pool. We can't afford Championship players so we take them from lower down & in time we hope they will be good enough to play in the Championship.shirty5 said:8 -

You mean Golfie has seized on an innocuous comment and interpreted in the worst way possible? Surely not...FishCostaFortune said:

We will beat them.....soapy_jones said:You know after hearing that interview... We might even beat the Spanners this season!
In the second round of the Carabao Cup and they'll claim it doesn't count cos it's not in the league, and we'll wank ourselves into a coma over it3 -

I m o Stoke have been properly taken for mugs in spending 10M on Galbraith .. or, on the other hand, does it indicate a) the inflation in the football world or b) a desperate dearth of available footballing talent ?MarcusH26 said:
Must be getting on for £15-20m spent now for Stoke at least? Playoffs are surely the minimum for them or Robins won't last longfenaddick said:
Stoke are really pushing the boat out though. With the window they're having their expectations will be to be pushing for Play OffsCovered End said:
I agree and aren't happy when our fans are unduly negative.Exiled_Addick said:
Novelty of a new signing. We see the same thing every transfer window - a lot of the players that people were getting similarly excited about last summer are now the ones we’re hoping this summer’s signings will replace.Covered End said:The majority seem to be pleased with our 2 new signings.
I’ll be honest in that I’d never heard of either and didn’t know most of our fans watched so many Dundee and Heracles games last season.
Heres hoping.
I don’t begrudge people riding the wave of optimism. It’s better for your mental health than being a miserable pessimist.Truth is, though, we’ll find out if they’re good signings after they’ve played for us. You’ve been around long enough (like me) to have seen plenty of dead cert good signings turn into flops here and vice versa. There’s just too many variables at play - will they settle in London, will they get on with NJ, do they still have the hunger they once had, will they suffer some unexpected misfortune on their personal life, will they get clobber by a late tackle 10 minutes into their debut, etc., - for us to know either way. What I would say, is I have as much confidence as I’ve had for a long while that the club is going about scouting and recruiting in a structured and professional manner, we’re more attractive now as a continuing Championship team, and we have a manager with a clear playing identity, knows what he wants, and will fight to get it. We’re probably as likely to make success of recruitment this summer as we’ve been for quite some time.
But Stoke are seen as a bang average Championship team at best.
Dundee sell 2 centre halves.
Stoke get Luke Graham for £2M.
We get Billy K for £500K.
Me, I've no idea, but remain hopeful.0 -
I don’t think it is as he is responding to a rumour about a player we are ‘linked’ with this year - who is probably a League One player.LargeAddick said:

would like to see him join us .. had a poor couple of years recently, but has a very good, quick football brain, just what we need up front .. I reckon he has a few good years left and needs a challengefenaddick said:

Yep, a goal by Asiimwe before he's shipped off to another League 1 team, and people will point to him and say he's the second coming of Cafu9goalswentpastperry said:

I had plenty of people telling me a week or so ago that he was off to west ham - my view was yes, they would probably love to sign him and not surprised they have been linked, but most clubs in our division would love to sign him but i'd be very surprised if we don't offer what it needs to keep him - losing Lloyd Jones would have been almost as big a set back as getting relegated. It's not been confirmed yet whether he's extended or just staying or going elsewhere of course but to me, if he leaves this summer, we'd find it very hard to recover from that.Sheepie1985 said:

Alluding to both really. Can't say I listened 100% to NJ's "uhm's" and "ahs" but he definitely said that last season we bought the better players from league one as we couldn't afford Championship players & hoping that a year on they will now be Championship "ready". He also then alluded to the fact we will probably have to do the same this season as good Championship players are outside our budget.FishCostaFortune said:

Its no surprise that the 2 players we've brought in so far are not from the Championship......in fact not from the EFL. The last 3 signings are all from non English leagues.
Once again I'm not expecting much this summer in way of Championship quality. Last season we really only stayed up because other teams got point deductions. Just have to hope that the players brought in can step up better than those did last season.9 -
A cynic would say we've signed the 2 defenders early as 90% of our coaching in pre season will be based on the defence. An optimist would say its because we're trying to get some of the less costly signings out the way early so we can throw everything we've got left to pay for the players who are gonna get us playing and scoring.3

I'd sooner keep Kanu. Mandron would be lucky imho to get bromley, more likely back to Gillingham.AberystwythAddick said:As long as he doesn’t end up with us. It would be a failure of a window if he’s the supposed answer to our lack of goals3 -

no, he didn't - the main thrust of what he was saying was that we are now going for quality over quantity and the quality costs more and takes longer to get - last year we were adding more players of a similar level to our best - this year we want better or different to our best - seems logical enough to meLargeAddick said:

Highest number of points gained and still relegated was 52 I believe. I just thought it was worth pointing that out.golfaddick said:

@golfaddick without deductions, Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford, Leicester and Blackburn would have all finished below us still32

Logical, if you are not trying to justify your opinions by massaging Jones interview to suit those opinions.DOUCHER said:
