England v Mexico pubs

I can see it getting very messy, and not just the carpets from the beer thrown around.
Especially as it's a Sunday, if people spend much of the day drinking before the game, what sort of state will they be in by 1am?3 -
Only 5 of them are showing the game.ElfsborgAddick said:To confine supporters to one part of towns and cities, I gather all Wetherspoons are showing the game.0 -
I think it's more likely to be the small independent pubs that show the game rather than the big chains.
Doesn't appeal to me personally but each to their own

Last time I was in a pub doing similar, was the Hatton v Merryweather fight
The pub closed at 9pm for a few hours and then reopened around 1am I think
You had to get £10ticket in advance (only available if known by staff or vouched for by a regular) but that got you a full English after the fight as well0 -
If i was 20 years old i'd be having the monday off and going large - as it is, unless i have a bout of insomnia on sunday evening (unlikely because i'm normally well soaked with beer and wine by bedtime on a sunday), then i'll give it a miss and hope to wake up to a win. Reckon the pubs that do stay open will be pretty empty mainly.1

Still in Lewisham. Probably gonna go to the Fox and Firkin, so just a 15 minute walk home. To be fair, Lewisham is pretty well served by night buses, so could have done Central London, although even on non-football occasions you usually have to share the bus with at least 1 aggressive or annoying drunk.swords_alive said:Couldn't think of a worse way to spend the small hours. Shame on the government for encouraging false hope too.
And perhaps you are a changed man mrlargo, at a new central London address?, but do you expect to rely on public transport to get you home from there!?1 -
The N21 Bexleyheath to Central London via Bexley, Eltham, Lewisham, puts the Millers into play. Will the grannies be there for grabbing…. ?3

Pub chain Greene King has said more than 600 pubs across England will be staying open late to show the match, while Marston's has said more than 400 of its pubs will also be open.Gravesend_Addick said:I think it's more likely to be the small independent pubs that show the game rather than the big chains.

You don’t like people launching their pints into the air? Bet you’re fun at parties.1

Given the high possibility of England losing Im definitely giving this a miss. I remember being with @Peterboroughaddick, watching England lose 3-2 to Argentina and seeing it turn nasty along with "fans" spitting at the screen.1

I see the Police are complaining about late announcement that Pubs will have an extended licence. Like its a surprise that this match would happen. Nothing like a bit of contingency planning. Probable explains the various Home Millwall debacle.

I've got no idea on my strategy to drink/stay awake/watch it yet. Just booked Monday off, that's it.Ouch mate2 -

It would be hilarious if the game had storms on the rearranged start time.3 -
Had a mail from The George in Borough High St, they are showing it, nice pub, was there a couple of weeks back and there was a big screen in the Courtyard for the cricket. I'd guess that's going to be in use whenever they kick off. Personally, I won't move further than my living room for this, getting drenched in lager (or worse) has little appeal.1

When ? In 1986? I seem to remember watching that during the afternoon. Then again, I suppose that would have to mean a morning kick off time in Mexico.carly burn said:For the superstitious amongst us, we kicked off at 7pm on a Sunday the last time we played there

Fully booked up Sunday and ledt Monday morning open, now they've changed. Why the fuck organise it to be played in such a stupid place in the first place if the weather is that temperamental? Can imagine there'll be a few 1000 fans out there who have laid out a few bags to get there, but now won't make tbe game0

If you’re flying that late to arrive on the morning of the match then you’re taking a risk imo. Flights are often delayed so I always fly at least one day before. I couldn’t believe it last year on the Saturday when I sat behind the Sunderland manager’s brother and father. They were taking a massive risk flying easyjet on the day of the match.0
-
I suppose if time and / or money isnt of great concern, you could probably fly in a couple of days before just to makes sure, but it don't change the fact that people generally work to the time given, and if it changes, it'll catch a few out. And, lets face it, bringing a game FORWARD is pretty unprecedented.1

Hope it stays at 1am sort of thing in years to come people will say remember watching us in the early hours vs Mexico a proper world Cup memory2
