Thought Redman was neat and tidy, but is that enough?

Mwamba was the standout for me, first half he was always involved. Aggression and skill.  Really like how he accepts the ball and always looks to drive forward.

Don't mind having Redmond on trial as a bit of experience around the squad and someone for TC/Apter/Dixon to learn off but these older free agent moves just haven't worked for us recently.

NJ didn't say we're always going to be playing 433/4231, but rather that he wants the option to switch from his 352/343 system.

IF we do just play 4 at the back, we have quite a lot of centre backs - fenaddick beat me to that comment  :D

Jones, Bell, Sichenje, Koumetio would all expect to be playing, plus we have Burke and the younger Z Mitchell and Gough

Ramsay would be just a RB, Mesik just a LB (alongside Edwards).

And if you have just the one central striker, they need to be able to hold the ball up, which isn't really Kelman's game.

Away will be play the same way as last season it’s at home he is looking to be more positive

Redmond was obviously going to be livelier than the other players in the second half yesterday, as he's trying to impress and earn a contract, whereas everyone else will be easing themselves in.

His underwhelming spells at Wednesday and Blackburn last season are a major concern

While I’m not suggesting he’s good enough, these two clubs have been awful places to be last couple of years. With his pedigree, he’s definitely worth a look and if they see something they can use then why not. Could be a good finisher (sub) to have off the bench.

TC has clear talent, but he’s not got anyone at the club who’s similar in style to help him. Redmond could be that person?

If Jones wants Redmond as an option I’ll back it even if i think it’s a very questionable move.

Could be a very hot take but I’d be very very concerned if Jones a manager who’s built his entire career on a 352/41212 - Diamond, wants to suddenly switch up and play a way in which he hasn’t got proven success or a lot of know how.

even more so going into a season with TC, Tanto Apter and Redmond as wingers. 2 of which had failed L1 spells last year, 1 hasn’t kicked a ball in 3 years and the other has output problems. TC and Apter have potential but all seems like a massive gamble to me. No issues if it’s Plan B but if it’s Plan A I think we’d be very much out our depth

Really not sure about Redmond. In Jones we trust etc, but still.

Obviously it’s only the first pre season game but if that is a sample of what he brings I think we should keep Mwamba around the squad rather than loan him out

Maybe but also maybe that stops him developing. Even if we bring in just one more midfielder he’ll have three or four players ahead of him in the pecking order. His development might be better if he went out on loan

I think in a 4 at the back Sichenje could be suitable for RB looking at how he plays

NJ has confirmed there’s no truth in the Mandron rumour on Cawley’s latest article.
That's best news we've had all summer

Redmond is definitely not the answer to anything we need!

    Move Sichenje into the midfield

Jones has used 4231 loads in his managerial career

If he thinks he can get something out of Redmond, then let's try

Godden was 32 when we signed him from Coventry, just saying

Re: Redmond I think it’s natural to see this sort of thing at this stage in the season.  Jones will want to see if he’s a capable, cheap option given our budget.  Personally I don’t think he’ll do enough to get a contract, but I understand why we’re looking at him.

This talk of changing formations and targeting players that fit our new style of play is giving me Garnerball flashbacks.

Taking trialists surely only works if you’re playing teams of a similar level?

Playing against our pre season opponents is hardly a test

JRS is the really interesting one that comes to mind if we switch to this formation.

A 4231 with a 3 of TC, Carey and JRS would be interesting to see.

And Kelman absolutely can play up top as I think his hold up play is good and having the three behind buzzing around him is how he played at Orient with Donley et al

Two bits of NJ's post match comments stand out for me. Gough is ' a young Conor Coady' was one. Second was' the youth players are closer than you think'.
If NJ believes Gough and Mwamba, in particular,  are first team ready then that makes our midfield issues easier. Mwamba is the type of midfielder we are missing, can carry the ball and pass, is both strong and skilful. Somebody you can build a team around.

Or in goal if Kaminski goes?
  • Is the Redmond trial, just Nathan helping out an ex player by saying it’s an official trial so his agent can create some interest, when in reality he’s just training with us. Clutching at straws here. I know money is tight compared to other big spenders in this league but it’s a signing that wouldn’t be very inspiring. Perhaps NJ would deploy him elsewhere like the genius Coady switch to midfield.

Or take over from Jones as manager, assuming he can do that and be CEO.

On paper the bloke seems like a busted flush however he is only 32 has played at the highest level if he gets a full pre season in who knows he could rekindle his spark. I learnt from the Coady signing not to doubt NJ in this respect as I was gutted when we signed him thinking it a total waste of space

If we sign him (hopefully a big “if”), he’ll need a full pre-season, therefore it makes sense to get him involved in the early pre-season games when we slaughter the minnows in our region.

And that’s it for me really. The Connor Coady situation showed a lot of us up as a many believed he was a busted flush and would be a waste of time and money, yet turned into one of the most important signings of the season. If NJ sees something in Redmond, believes he can contribute to the team, and thinks he can get something out of him, I’m more than happy to back it.

All I dream of is a team of Sichenje's
    A team of Sichenje's
