Coady couldn't move, but he hung around outside our box and didn't stray from there. A wide player needs legs. If Redmond's legs have gone then he will be about as much use as Onel Hernandez, Kazenga Lua Lua and everyone else whose legs have gone that we've asked to play wide and then grimaced at

Tell you what, expect we probably have a good chance of telling if his legs are gone by having him on trial for as long as we do.

Also he took the ball and drove forwards with it better than most yesterday, so if his legs have gone then so have Carey's and Knibbs'

I think it's easier for elderly defensive players to continue and be effective,  as they can use their organizational and communication skills, as Coady showed.

A winger whose legs have gone is unlikely to be very effective in the Championship.

Interesting comment from NJ that we plan to continue to target Europe for signings because we can't afford £10m on a Gailbraith. Would expect at least one of the CMs to come from Europe. Agree with the post from last night about instead of signing De Keersmaeker we have to go to Belgium/Holland and find the next one.

We won't be playing a out and out 4231. It will be a hybrid system 3241/352/4231 like we saw at the star of last season and for the majority of the league one promotion season.

We will still be one of the most direct teams in the league. So it's so important we get physical forward that can lead the line, run the channels and create chances for them self. We are also going to need a progressive midfielder that is good in phase one and two to connect to the forward players.

We’re in for Michael Mandron from St Mirren. Leicester also looking according to Peter O’Rourke of Sky

If this is true then we should have stuck with Ahadme instead
Lots of WUMs’ on here these days, I don’t get why tho?

Some fantastic overreactions to having a player on trial here. You'd think we'd signed him up and given him a 10 year contract
Mate, you of all people surely know what it is to be scarred by the Arters, Hernandezzes, Gunters, Souares, Ledleys, Bests and so on and so fucking forth of this world. Gavin fucking Williams. Aaaaargh

Always wanted this approach. Some of the best signings from recent years at champ level were ironically under Roland when we had a better European understanding…. Bauer, JBG, Buyens, Bulot, Texeira, Kashi all decent enough players.

Dutch, Belgian, Portuguese leagues should be happy hunting grounds for us

If we are to play a four we are overloaded with CB's. If you take Ramsay out of the picture (wouldn't be ideal in a 2) you have:

    Jones
    Sichenje
    Burke
    Bell
    A Mitchell (to be sold)
    Z Mitchell (to be sold/loaned)
    Gough
    Koumetio

That's 6 players for 2 positions. Maybe it works if you discount Burke (fitness) and count Gough as a youth player but it sounds like NJ considers Gough a solid squad player
    Ruthless = sell A And Z Mitchell.
Possibly sell Ramsay given one year left (I hope not)
    Loan out Gough.
Ignore Burke given his fitness issues.
    You then gave 4 CBs.
This.  Guarantee he’ll get injured before the start of the season.  We’ve just got to accept it was a poor buy and wait for his contract to run out.  He’s not an option imo.  I just hope we’re done with taking on consistently injured players.  So frustrating and we don’t have the luxury of the quality of squad/team depth and talent to be entertaining it
When Burke has played he’s looked decent IMO

I'll worry when we sign him. We had Joe Bennett on trial last summer and he ended up signing for Walton & Hersham. He did fill out the friendly games though and would have been useful in preseason training. Given what Jones said about needing to be patient to get the right players in, having a sensible player who can occupy the wings in preseason when we're potentially trying to get the team used to having wide players to work with makes sense until we can get the correct signings in. Maybe we'll just chuck a contract at him and history will repeat but until then I haven't got the energy. I think I'm going to miss the not-football.

With Derby in advanced negotiations to sign Divin Mubama on loan, wonder if that makes Elijah Adebayo to us a goer.

I think we can get decent money for Karoy, A Mitchell and Kanu.
hopefully we can offload Tanto and Apter for decent fees.
This should raise some funds towards signing 3 good Champ players

Adebayo,Morris and Agyemang (when fit) would be a bit similar for them to play all 3 regularly anyway.

I think in a 4 at the back Sichenje could be suitable for RB looking at how he plays
4 at the back, with Kayne and Collins at RB we wouldn't need a RWB. Depending on budget and recruitment, might be an option.

Jones has used 4231 loads in his managerial career

If he thinks he can get something out of Redmond, then let's try

Godden was 32 when we signed him from Coventry, just saying
Has he? I don’t think he has. Used it at Southampton and maybe at Stoke but whenever he’s had success it’s been with a 442 diamond or a 352

I can’t see him switching us to 4231 as a starting system. He just wants the options to be able to change to it in game if needed. Our starting system will be the 3-5-2/4-2-3-1 hybrid which it sounds like we played last night, so with a more defensive LWB and a more attacking RWB, with TC drifting out to the left

Portsmouth are dropping 6 million on a player. This is what we are competing with.

You get what maybe 2M for Kanu Mitchell and Karoy at a push. Tanto and Apter won’t be in hot demand after their loans and won’t receive offers worth not persisting with them, won’t even get a singular championship guaranteed standard player for that much

We had much more success when playing with out and out wingers because we will never dominate possession but with a solid defence to absorb pressure with your Doc's and Coventry dropping back aswell, we can counter attack to great effect.

If Redmond can chip with assists and goals then that isn't an issue with me. Plus Apter might flourish as a winger.

Apter couldn’t flourish as a winger in league 1 last season, a goal against Dartford doesn’t change anything. We will be looking for better at attacking RWB than him (we won’t be playing with wingers, it will be the same system as before so it’s the Thierry Small role)

Well, more like £5m if the reports are to be believed and no word on what amount of that would be add-ons and conditionals.
