Aimless long balls into Kelman and TC in the second half, Redmond probably one of our brighter players. Impressed with the directness of Fullah and Mwamba in the first half._MrDick said:I know it’s only a pre-season friendly but our problems from last season appear to have carried over into the new season. No width, no decent balls into the box. Kelman feeding off scraps ..🤷♂️0 -
Personally don’t think you can read too much into first pre season friendly. For me new guys looked ok Mwanba and Fuller played well first half and Leaburn was busy but poor penalty. Second half Redmond looked worth a second look not too much else stood out7

I don’t know, I think there can be criticism if we were just playing how we did last season. I didn’t go, but from the comments in here that seems to be the case. You’d think against someone like dartford we would look to impose some sort of control on a game.superdulvertonred said:Personally don’t think you can read too much into first pre season friendly. It is two teams playing Football and Dartford in the second half looked far better, and I assume they have just come back into training as we have.superdulvertonred said:Personally don’t think you can read too much into first pre season friendly. You can safely ignore the majority of comments on any match thread. Seriously. Pick a game you saw live, where we won, and you felt we played well. Now find the corresponding match thread on here. I guarantee a huge chunk of the comments will be things like "not good enough", "same old same old", "sort it out". There will be comments attacking the team, the tactics, the manager, individual players.AberystwythAddick said:

The match threads are possibly the most depressing, and divorced from reality threads on this site. You visit them to try to follow the actions and you leave wanting to spit your wrists. Literally nothing is good enough.
So take any comments about tonight with a huge pinch of salt. The team has been back a week, it was a glorified training session where over 40 players were used. We should have scored 3 or 4, but on the plus side I can't remember our keeper having to make a save first half and Mansion was only seriously called upon maybe twice second half.16 -
Can’t believe some are analysing so much our first pre season game when the guys have done about ten days pre season. Time to judge is away to Cheltenham or even home to Derby. Until then just chill.24

Bit of confusion last night that resulted in my putting up a Match Thread before realising @fenaddick had a pre-season thread already started, which resulted in two in Match Threads running at the same time, which was a bit confusing at times no doubt.
So will leave the pre-season to the original thread if that's ok and see you all for the League stuff in August.
Apologies...

Decent interview with Dartford gaffer. Seems to think we're going for play offs!0 -
Thought that was a decent performance by Dartford. Not much goal threat, but well organised against much better players.ButtleJR said:

Comments on match threads whilst the game is ongoing, are by supporters that aren't at the match (vast majority). They've not had the enjoyment of going to the game and all that goes with it, they're just sat at home watching it on a screen, the same as any other day watching screens.randy andy said:

The game showed me just how much work Chappell and Jones have to do before the Season begins. Yes it was the first friendly. Yes you can’t pay attention too much to pre-Season friendlies. But we have a lot of players who aren’t good enough for the Championship. They need shifting. We are well stocked in the centre of defence but are lacking in right wing backs. The centre of midfield is a problem and a new striker would be good.

The result and performance yesterday weren't important.
It was all about fitness and getting minutes back into the legs.
Would probably think performance will matter from AFC Wimbledon onwards.

How did we look last night? I was there but missed an hour, queuing for a burger.6

Take this as a written warning, one more mistake and you're out.

I didn't realise the game was at The Valley.

Someone....... sorry can't find your previous post....... was commenting on parking for the Colchester friendly on 28th........ I've just booked mine at the stadium. The site is colutickets.com but it comes up as https://tickets.colchesterunited.net/
You'll need to create an account/password to login and book. Cost £7.50. When I went last year the parking was great, right outside the stadium........ bit busy and took some time getting out though...... cars queuing to the roundabout.1 -
Nice to see some who didn’t play due to injury (Godden, Edwards, Sichenje) and youngsters like Enslin have travelled

It’s just a short clip on social media (I presume it’s on Facebook, Instagram etc too). Different platforms (including the website) are better for different types of content. Last year we got lots of YouTube content so hopefully we do this summer too so that all can accesseastterrace6168 said:

Is there a list of the players who have travelled to Slovenia anywhere?0

I reckon the squad list is a good place to start...0

Going to be a frustrating week for me if all the news is on Musk’s xitter.
It feels like rather a shame that Charlton’s communication channel is seemingly enriching the man that makes Fascist salutes in public.
Is the Charlton media set up paid by Musk to use his platform, and not communicate in any other way like the official website many of us are paid subscribers of?12 -

I’m sure there will be lots on YouTube too and as said above it’s not purely on Twitter either. I would imagine it is too much of a faff for too little reward to upload a 45 second clip to the website. How many people do you think are visiting the video section of the website multiple times a day just in case a video gets posted?jose said:Going to be a frustrating week for me if all the news is on Musk’s xitter.

I won’t be doing either of those things, or Facebook who ever owns that.FishCostaFortune said:

I suppose the number of people who don’t have xitter but do have links to the official site.fenaddick said:

Is this kind of thing a massive ‘faff’?
Doesn’t modern technology make things easier.0
