I think Gough looks ready, but yeah agree, now that we have reinforcements, league one loan would be ideal

Going back to the conversation about information about Charlton on media sites, as I am an old fart I do not go on any sites. If it is not on Charlton OS, then I rely on others on here to put out a report on updates, so thank you

Seems like Jones reckons Mwamba is a much better fit for it then Gough

From seeing him play for the u21s it’s arguably his best position, he reads the game well to tackle and intercept, and he keeps possession.

Mwamba could also play the deeper midfield role, but I think his energy makes him more suited to playing box to box.

It’s going to be interesting to see if they stay with us or go out on loan, and from there how their seasons play out.

The holding midfielder position isn't one where I'd play a kid. You need someone with experience, who can anticipate danger.

Hence why it was the perfect position for a wily old pro, like Coady.

Yeah I'd want an experienced head in there to compete with Coventry even if Mwamba is showing promise

Mwamba is an attacking midfielder, not like Coady at all.

I think we need to be a bit cautious when putting our hopes in our youngsters at this stage in their career. The comparison with Conor Coady or at least the similarities are a bit wide of the mark in my opinion. What Coady brought was experience, organisation and positional sense, as much as I want Gough and Mwamba to succeed, I think you only need to look at Fuller's contribution last season to realise, it's a big step from under 21's to Championship football.

I think we might have to put all our hopes in the youngsters if we are not buying any key players in the key positions ie midfield.

Got a feeling Nathan hasn't given up on Apter as much as some have on this thread...
I believe he will come good and was disappointed when he was loaned out in January. He needs a run in the team to get his confidence back. His performances in August and against Boro at home last season showed he can play in this league
Maybe, but only as a winger in a 433
Apart from when he was very good against Watford, Bristol City and Leicester as a RWB and was our player of the month for August. He's perfectly capable of carrying out the role, his output dipped when he stopped putting in the effort to track back and that cost him his place after QPR where he decided he only wanted to go forward and then against Millwall where he didn't have much defending to do and wasted his opportunity when he had the scope to attack. The things Rob Apter can do are entirely up to Rob Apter, it's just a question of whether or not he's come back willing to do what Jones wants him to. I think he can, he just has to switch his brain on
He can't tackle, bit of a problem for a wingback.

I think he plays as a 10 or he doesn’t play in the 5-3-2/ 5-2-2-1
Apter has played more games at wingback than he has a CAM. Apter is a RW and a RW only need to stop this shoehorning into different positions.
We don’t play RW so he doesn’t play.

Why are we still talking about Apter?

Surely we’ve exhausted this conversation both last season and this upcoming one.

Is it because there’s nothing else to report and people feel a need to post something, even if it’s the same as the previous 100 posts?
Don't you get bored of saying how fed up you are with this thread? Multiple times, every year.
They do it on multiple threads. Very tiresome.

    Decent for league one.
Not good enough for the championship imo.

He was that league one’s season’s Rankin Costello, as in our best technician by far in midfield but miles away from what Nathan jones needs from a midfielder physically.

There’s a reason we never went back in for him.
