    There are three, maybe four, decent national anthems. The rest are appalling. Time to stop this nonsense.
    There are ONLY 4 national anthems. Apart from England, USA and France all the others are literally the same song!
    Especially Liechtenstein who use the same dirge we do
    Oh blimey, let's hope they don't get to the final as well......
    Ignorant English supporters who boo the opposition’s anthem won’t know what to do.

    Every nation should have the same national anthem. We can all sing along together then, enjoy ourselves with mutual appreciation and much love and unity 🤝

    Wonderwall. Simples!
    It's a frigging dirge and what the hell is a Wonderwall anyway.

    GSTK is a dirge.  But it's our dirge.  No reason to change it.

    GSTK is short and easily sung, both major assets. How many other countries' supporters will sing their national anthem at the start of the second half, for example?

    Ha ha, tell that to the England squad members who are still singing God Save the Queen  ;).

    Think we should have switched to Flower of Scotland for the round of 32 as it will never get sung at a World Cup otherwise.

    A Wonderwall is England's defence in The Azteca Stadium.

    I would rather sing this as it refers to country and not to King or Queen:

    I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
    Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
    The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test,
    That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
    The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
    The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

    And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
    We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
    Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
    And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
    And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

    It only occurred to me when I hit the 5th line that I was trying to sing that to "We plow the fields and scatter", because that's the point where the scansion falls over (although you can bodge it by skipping the first "the" in V1L5, but V2 needs a bit more hacking of the words)

    On a slightly different tack all the Colombian team sang their hearts out. Obviously I didn't know the words, but perhaps they were more stirring.
