What a night. Only watched it at home but celebrating without making too much noise was interesting. Everyone put in a solid performance. Pickford, Gordon & Jude standouts for me. Couldn't see it ending 2-3. Just didn't think we would hold out but we gave it everything. Probably got to sleep at 5am which means no work today. In Vilamoura for the Norway game.

Henderson, I saw no reason for him to be there jumping over the barriers. Hes added nothing to the squad and now can't play at all. Injurys himself celebrating a goal he played absolutely no part in. His last act of being an England player was bloody stupidity. Total waste of a shirt, shouldn't have been included in the squad.
Great effort from the players who did take part. Hopefully The Don will have a word with FIFA and get another red card rescinded, although I think VAR got it right.

    Someone's tired.
    Am I wrong though?
I think so - firstly on a technicality - he wasn't celebrating a goal, but rather was with every player, squad member and staff member after the final whistle. He was at that end of the ground not because of a decision on his part, but because the whole organisation were with the fans. Secondly, it's clear from Tuchel and the other players that he is in the squad as much for what he brings to the camp as to what he can add on the pitch, though he can do a job there as well. You could argue that, if he is a waste of a shirt, then so are the 6 others that have yet to play, and are unlikely to get any minutes.
Jordan Henderson is the Mike Brearley of the England squad.

Not really worth a spot on playing ability but makes up for it in leadership.

I would think about putting Burn in the middle of defence to deal with Haaland in the air and Konsa at right back.
I'd concentrate on stopping the balls into Haaland, I don't think Burn will be able handle the striker.
Same, Gabriel has been a monster for Arsenal this season and got beaten by him, then Alisson was beaten by his shot for the second, and he's been probably the best keeper in the Prem in the last decade.

The only way to stop Haaland is to make sure he never touches the ball, so you need to be on Odegaard, Schjelderup, Nusa, Bobb, Sorloth, whoever it is they play in the 3 around him

It didn't feel like it at the time but Mexico failed to really test Pickford in the second half apart from crosses he had to punch away. They were much better first half but when you take a step back, they lacked offensive quality. We didn't and took our chances. It was never going to be a flowing performance under the circumstances and the sending off was another issue to solve. The fact we got through it speaks volumes about the quality of the side and that was always going to be what we had to rely on. We now know there is a united squad that will sweat blood for each other. We might have hoped that was the case, but now we know. England are the last team I would want to face.

Bellingham has a confidence which can sometimes be interpreted as arrogance. Ronaldo is arrogant in that he will take pens even when there are better penalty takers. It is all about him. Bellingham is a team player who knows how good he is. Long may that continue.

In which case take him as part of the coaching set up or as someone said just a good bloke to have around but why waste a squad place on him.

Anyone see the England game? It was quite good.

On my birthday too. Day off and it was on at 1pm here.

my father (Norf London), brother and two of my boys watched it together. A precious family memory.

Go back to your shanty towns you corrupt bunch of coke heads.
I feel like taking the piss out of poverty living conditions is a bit far fella. And totally classless.
No way they are potless if they can afford a world cup ticket.
    Could've been worded better though.
Of course no one living in the Shanty towns could have afforded a ticket but then why the need to bring those living conditions into it? I personally think its pretty disgusting to take the piss out of the abject poverty that some people live in purely because of a football result. At best its a bit strange.

...My equivalent experience was watching Seaman get chipped by Ronaldinho!
Thank you for resisting the temptation to use the word lobbed. 😉

After a long day out yesterday I decided to watch the match live.  Probably due to exhaustion I set my alarm for 1:58.  I woke up at 1:57 so stopped the alarm and left Mrs Hex in the land of nod.  I should have ignored my phone and gone to the recording to catch up but I wasn't with it and just checked my phone to see if the match was going to start on time.  At that point I realised what I'd done and how lucky (or not) I was so watched the match alone until Mrs Hex appeared for the final 11 minutes, although she had also misread the time and thought the second half was starting.  The moral of the story - never ask us the time !

The Mexican manager got his subs badly wrong, taking off creative players like Mora and Quinones, and just going direct with lots of strikers on the pitch. Complete meat and drink to a giant CB like Dan Burn.

I've seen Charlton games where the same thing happens. You're chasing a goal, so you end up with 4 forwards on the pitch, but have no quality to actually create anything for them.

Tuchel has to get some credit there I think, he didn't panic when we went down to 10 but waited to see how Mexico would try and exploit it then made his own changes to best counter that. Southgate in the same situation would probably surrender to his innate conservatism and who knows if we'd have held out.

The one thing we have established is what our best front six looks like. There have been some doubts about the inclusion of Anderson and Gordon, by some, but they have now to be included from the start. As was also demonstrated, though, we have enough options from the bench, for the latter parts of matches, to make a meaningful difference.

For that we have to praise Tuchel. However, I too am struggling as to why Henderson was included in the squad when he could have included another to make an impact. But, as much a mystery is calling up a CB in Chalobah (especially as we already had Konsah, Guehi, Stones, Burn and Quansah) for Livramento. That left us with one specialist RB in James, who himself has a history of being injured. I do appreciate what TAA lacks but he would have given the squad an extra dimension especially if Tuchel elected to change shape at any given time. He would still have had those other right back options in the squad available to him.

All of that said, in Tuchel we trust. We are trying to win matches and take the game to the opposition instead of trying not to lose them and that, when you have so many gifted attacking footballers at your disposal, has to be the way forward. We're simply not good enough defensively to just defend the box for 90 minutes and hope we can hit teams on the counter.

I wonder if anybody was prepared to stay up, put up with the delay, but dozed off during the match.

You are wrong. It’s called being part of the team and it’s a great togetherness that England squads are made of these days. Happy to see everyone celebrating a win together, no matter if they were an unused sub.
Great to see a togetherness, something that may have been lacking in some squads, which is a strange one when considering there is no higher honour in my opinion to be picked to play for your country. We shouldn't need a non playing sub to instil a team spirit and I doubt it would be absent from this one without him.

Definitely !  So much practice.  I have taught myself to not look at the clock or even think about it.  The last 20 minutes go much faster.

    Master class from Teuchal.
Brilliant tactics to ease in to the first quarter. Brilliantly executed by the whole team who clearly bought into the plan.
He deployed excellent substitutions just at the right time.
Great to see his passion when reacting to the dreadful officiating.
    Love his interviews too.
    Long may he reign.
