Watched at 7 this morning. Don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous for so long so early in the day.

If there is one thing I would like to see is goals coming from other areas. There is an over reliance on Kane and Bellingham (10/11) with Rashford the only other player to score in our five games to date. It will be up to the likes of Saka, Gordon, Anderson and Rice to step up when the opposition focus on silencing our two biggest threats.

I wonder if anybody was prepared to stay up, put up with the delay, but dozed off during the match.
I came pretty close to dropping off in the first 20 minutes

I think reflecting on the madness, for the first time I am saying - under Southgate we lose that match.
There have been a few times where players haven't been performing during a game and Tuchel tells.them in no uncertain terms he really isn't happy. O'Reilly springs to mind last night with a few early miss placed passes.

Southgate was more of a 'nevermind...better luck next time' type of character. There's nothing wrong with that but you do need to know when to mix it up and Tuchel certainly isn't afraid of cracking a few eggs.

Anyone else think Anthony Gordon looks like Luther from The Warriors?

can anyone more intelligent than me mock up an image
of him with the bottles on his fingers saying ‘the Mexicans, come out to play’

What I would say in addition about Tuchel is that he created an environment where there were no pre match excuses. The altitude was genuinely unfair and a major disadvantage for England as they were thrown into the game with no acclimitization. No point moaning about it though before the game. FIFA is crap for not addressing this but we know it is a corrupt money led organisation run by an arsehole. But England knew what was coming and they faced up to it and won when Mexico were favourites. I didn't expect it and we were only ever going to win it in the way we did. Tuchel is a top, top manager and created the conditions that this could be done. Now we have come through the FIFA trap, who knows what we can achieve.

A sweet, sweet victory, despite everything stacked in mexicos favour, the home stadium, altitude, every decision going their way,the constant moaning and whinging without any action being taken by the ref, they still couldnt beat us. Absolutely loved the scenes at the end and seeing those mexican whingefucks crying. Lovely, simply lovely.

Harry Kane is a brilliant striker, brilliant footballer and brilliant captain.  But last night he excelled himself.  His eloquent, post-match speech was a masterpiece in communicating clearly, responsibly and with passion and commitment, without overstepping.  You can see it here.

    Looking ahead to Saturday

    Haaland:

1 goal in 5 games against Konsa
1 goal in 10 games against Burn
8 goals in 5 games against Guehi

Perhaps there is an element of truth here? He might lack pace but the one thing Burn won't be is bullied. Stop the supply line that makes it a one-on-one race and Burn could be the solution.

So, I would play Konsa at RB, have Burn and Stone (who will know Haaland better than anyone else) as CBs with O'Reilly (again a teammate of Haaland) at LB

I was thinking just that earlier. Last night we laid to rest the ghost of Maradona in that stadium. Now comes the redemption of that game/commentary on Sat. After that there is then the redemption of the Argentina match in 1998 when Beckham got sent off.

I like to think all those games nervously watching Charlton see out games stood me in very good stead for the last 30 minutes last night!
Yep, very similar to Middlesbrough away and a few others last season except more than the 1 goal scored last night. (Not that i am an advocate of Jones's football on the whole and still await an apology for too many poor displays preferably before the next season begins!)

I feel sorry for @chizz here. Linking to that video might be the funniest thing he's ever done and it's gone completely unappreciated.

Seen quite a lot of this "well they'll never win it because they still need to beat Argentina and then Spain/France" but it completely misses the point doesn't it.

The game was great in its own right. Football has never been about just winning stuff, it's about the enjoyment and experiences you get along the way. I don't really believe we have enough to win the whole thing but last night does mean we're still in it and we get another fun night on Saturday. Meanwhile up in Scotland ....
