Didn't do Hull much harm last season.

Is Gilbert the best player in the world no but a 24 yr old on a free with championship experience and offers something different to what we have in the building definitely wouldn’t hurt.

Also could potentially have a 6’3 Jones, 6’5 Koumetio 6’2 Sichenje 6’2 Knibbs a 6’7 Leaburn and a 6’4 Mbick at set pieces Gilbert may be worth investing in that alone just like Clarke with his long throw ins
People too quick to turn their noses up at players like Gilbert, Bree and Clarke. A lot forget where we sit in the pecking order currently
Who would you drop for Gilbert?

If Charlton signed Gilbert would he be a barrier to youngsters coming through?
Surely he would need to be markedly better than, say, Mwamba or Fullah?
I didn't get that vibe from him when he played before.

I think Gilbert is a decent player with good vision and passing range.  As a squad player then fine.  As a starter though, I think we need better.

This is such a false argument. If they're good enough to play ahead of him they will, regardless

Can I ask did I miss something, how are we worried now we are only after free transfers? Is this confirmed or speculation?

All depends on the Budget Jones has been given. All will come to light at the end of the transfer window if that scenario happens

    It’s bed wetters
I might be naive here but this time last year we hadn’t signed:
    Reece Burke
    JRC
    Apter
    Charlie Kelman
    Harvey Knibbs
not to mention the loans (bree and Hernandez)
Seeing as this is the bulk of our spending last season I wouldn’t be panicking just yet.

No need to drop anyone, it’s about build a squad of player capable of playing in the championship not just a starting 11. Strength in depth is key in case we get more injuries

That’s why I disagree about signing Gilbert as midfield cover, we need one, ideally two first choice signings in there. Depth was a problem last season when players like Berry and Anderson came in. Gilbert is better them but would likely only be a sub.

We know we’re scouting beyond England and Scotland now, I can’t believe there isn’t a player or two out there who’s affordable and better than Docherty and Coventry.

The last thing we need is more midfielders who aren’t good enough to be starting week in week out.

In fairness Gilbert did play well against us at the valley but faded out of the game which is the concern with him. Did a job on loan and will never forget the two corners against Orient!!

We need to sign players who are a clear improvement over the current options. Coventry and Docherty will then become the depth.

Wait! You are saying that, after this point last season, we signed Burke, JRC, Apter, Knibbs and Hernandez? And that is meant to encourage us? I should think if management read that they will lock the chequebook away and call it "business done for this window".

Ran the show is strong but he did have a good game. Then again we were so open that I think basically anyone would have

Gilbert would be such a meh signing. Doesn't improve on what we've got and don't think there's much to choose between him and JRC.

Hoping a good chunk of the budget is earmarked for the midfield and PC can go and find a couple of real gems from Europe

I really like the fact we’ve targeted Europe for players but it also scares me. It’s such a huge gamble.

Not a chance JRC would have featured regularly for a team in the running for automatics the whole season
