The singer, known for hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for a Hero and It's a Heartache, has died at the age of 75.

A statement published on the singer's website reads:

"Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.

"We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy."

    Gutted, a Welsh legend. As drunk teens in the 00s we’d blast Total Eclipse of The Heart at then end of house parties and we’d all scream along (sorry neighbours). RIP Bonnie.

    Local reporting was that she has been struggling all the way through. Sad news, she was well thought of around Albufeira, always happy to chat.

    We can all be thankful that Meat Loaf passed up the chance of recording Total Eclipse so we can appreciate Bonnie's vocals on it.

    RIP Bonnie. I was at the Reading festival in 88 when she braved the flying bottles and instead of crying off like some she carried on and ended up getting a great ovation. Unfortunately I missed it all as I left the festival for the afternoon to get a train to Selhurst to see us get thumped  by Liverpool but heard all about it when I got back.
