    Can’t you just have two marathons on the same day: runners with a 6 hour limit start at 7am and the others start at 9am, something like that?

    Like staggered starts ? Maybe call it a 'wave' or something like that ?

    Start it earlier and end it later, all on one day. 5am for the purists, those who want to be elite but aren't, 8am for the elite, 9 am-noon for the people dressed as tea cosies, porcupines, aubergines and washing machines
