Same people every year start talking about people wetting the bed because they express mild surprise we haven't bought one or two more players in. Zzzzz.11 -

The defence will have to be exceptional with those 4 strikers.DamoNorthStand said:arny23394 said:Really really don’t want Dykes back. Going into next season with the exact same strike force as last season would be insanity.
I dont disagree - but how insane it would be depends on what formation we are looking to play.
If it is 4-2-3-1 for example - I think a quality winger, and 2 midfielders who can pass the ball forward are more important. Get those right, and Kelman, Godden, Leaburn and Dykes sharing the workload of the number 9 should be good for more hoals.1 -
Yeah we need better than Dykes if we go 1 up top, needs to be a striker at least on a par with Kelman and Godden's scoring prowess0
-
Dykes maybe isn't the most technically gifted striker we've had, but I feel like he had a decent amount of goal involvements last season. Obviously I'd love us to add a 15-20 goal a season striker, but an experienced championship target man who can hopefully help leaburn and mbick develop that "nasty" edge isn't someone I'd just cast off as being of little value to us.
We're likely to live and die as a team and he seems a decent team player.8 -
I wouldn’t be massively thrilled with dykes however he may well be a different animal in a team with wingers, he attacks the ball in the box and is very good in the air.
As ever I think our success is going to heavily depend on the creative signings we make rather than strikers, we have a number of players who can put the ball in the net we just don’t give them enough opportunities to do so currently.11 -

Thats me told then. As you say, I'll go hide in my cave & wait until mid August to see "the right" players performing out on the pitch.Rothko said:
Oh well, it's that simple, isn't it, and the indication were we would have still signed quite a few of the players we signed regardless of the league we were in. We don't need to buy in haste as did last summer, we can take time and sign the right players. Anyway, you've got something to moan about in your sad little cave, you must be delighted.golfaddick said:
Last season we didn't know what division we were in until 28th May, and were (and still are) constantly told that was one of the reasons why we were behind with our recruitment. This season we knew what division we were in on 25th April - a full month earlier.Rothko said:The bigger money deals in last years window all happened towards the end of July, Kelman, Apter and Knibbs, a lot of the freebies/chepaer ones were prior to the middle of July. Wish people would calm down a bit, enjoy the weather and worry about the World Cup instead
No excuses this time.4 -

Dykes has been offered reduced terms, he wants to come to us, but he is within his rights to shop around to see if he can get better money. But now it is getting to stage, where players stop worrying about money, and will want to play. And willing to accept lower terms, rather than being unwanted with out a club because they demanded to high.11

Not much of a surprise, he was on silly money at BrumDubaiCAFC said:Dykes has been offered reduced terms, he wants to come to us, but he is within his rights to shop around to see if he can get better money. There’s no point having 3 strikers who are exactly the same, at least dykes gives u an option to go direct in the last 5-10mins when ur applying pressure, Kelman and Godden come nowhere close to him physicallysam3110 said:Yeah we need better than Dykes if we go 1 up top, needs to be a striker at least on a par with Kelman and Godden's scoring prowess2 -
I'm just not convinced we aren't going to drop a decent fee on a striker. NJs comments about wanting to strengthen the attacking areas makes me wonder if someone to compete with TC is going to be where a good fee is spent.
Can give or take Dykes. Good Champ experience but think we can probably upgrade.1 -
But that's my point, we need a player that is similar in stature to Miles and Dykes, but they need to have better scoring prowess than Dykes did to make it worthwhile, IMO.Crispywood said:

Problem is strikers like that are like hens teeth, but if we're serious about moving forwards and evolving under Jones this season, I don't think Dykes is the answer1 -
Don't think he was suggesting 4 up top. Traditionally the first number in the formation is the defencegolfaddick said:

If you get a forward with Dykes physicality and Kelman/Godden finishing your basically asking for a striker that’s going to cost you 15-20M.sam3110 said:

I have to say I really don’t see this ‘bedwetting’ that’s meant to be occurring on here. All I see is people being concerned about the lack of activity. That isn’t bedwetting. I too thought we’d have seen more movement thus far and it’s disappointing because we have a number of areas in which we have to significantly improve in the team. However, I’m not panicking yet and realise it’s a difficult market at the moment. I also don’t get the ‘well team x, y & z haven’t brought anyone in yet’. Who cares? I don’t give a stuff who Derby, Preston, Sheffield Utd etc do or don’t bring in. All I’m concerned with is us.11

To me this stuff is useful because it's a reminder that we don't exist in a vacuum but as part of a much bigger market with moving pieces that sometimes works quickly and sometimes moves very slowlyLargeAddick said:I have to say I really don’t see this ‘bedwetting’ that’s meant to be occurring on here. Dykes is training with and wanted by other established Championship clubs. He might not be a flashy or exciting striker but he’s wanted for good reason.Wherever he ends up, I wish him well. He did the job we needed of him and I certainly wouldn’t be against him coming back but understand the desire for better if possible43

Yes he is a real Charlton legend. Forget about Derek Hales. Eddie Firmani, Keith Peacock Chris Powell. Yes Lyndon Dykes is a real Charlton legend.😌12

Interesting piece about players they expect to have a second loan season on NTT20 today that reckons we want £1m for DK to go on a permanent anywhere.
