If Leaburn started to use his size, put himself about a lot more, and just play with more confidence, we would have no need to be worrying about Dykes
Hoping this is a big year for him. Last season was just about getting confidence in his body again. Now he’s had a relatively injury free season he hopefully trusts his body more and can kick on

Think the experience of playing in the championship last year will mean Kelman, Leaburn and Campbell can improve quite a lot this season having learnt a lot last season about playing at this level
All three will benefit from us playing with two wingers, as we have in the friendlies so far.

I have high hopes for Miles think this will be the season he kicks on and starts to show his potential. Personally feel that he could form a good partnership with Charlie Kelman.
    Unfortunately,  I dont

We also need to sell Carey for £2m and buy Iorpenda for £1m.

Yeah we need better than Dykes if we go 1 up top, needs to be a striker at least on a par with Kelman and Godden's scoring prowess
There’s no point having 3 strikers who are exactly the same, at least dykes gives u an option to go direct in the last 5-10mins when ur applying pressure, Kelman and Godden come nowhere close to him physically
But that's my point, we need a player that is similar in stature to Miles and Dykes, but they need to have better scoring prowess than Dykes did to make it worthwhile, IMO.

Problem is strikers like that are like hens teeth, but if we're serious about moving forwards and evolving under Jones this season, I don't think Dykes is the answer
If you get a forward with Dykes physicality and Kelman/Godden finishing your basically asking for a striker that’s going to cost you 15-20M.
This is one of the craziest posts on here. Dykes and Kelman combination would be worth 20 million 😂😂
Kelman is arguably one of the best finishers in this league, I know expected goals is like marmite to some people but statistically he was the 3rd best striker this season in terms of finishing.

Dykes has 40 goals in 197 championship games which is not great for a striker yet somehow convinced teams he’s been good enough to spend 5 seasons in the championship.

You will struggle to get a better finisher than Kelman or someone who’s better physically than Dykes which is worth a lot of money. When you take the best part of them they’re amazing it’s just they both lack massively outside that trait

He is not one of the best finishers in the League, get real.So Dykes has got a good physique. So has Anthony Joshua but I wouldn’t want him playing for us.

The fact that in a conversation about Kelman's finishing ability your analysis went as deep as 'look at these other players that scored more goals' says everything about your argument here

England are out but at least we have Charlton finishing 18th and losing twice to millwall to look forward to now.

If I thought we would finish as high as 18th, I would be looking forward.

I get way more emotionally invested in Charlton anyway.

Time for the new season to get going and for us to get a few players through the door.

2 exciting ones so far. Just 4/5 more to go.
I’d love to be excited about defenders.

At this moment in time, 18th is quite a lofty ambition.

I'd take any kind of midfielder at this point. I can't bear the idea of starting the new season with Doch & Cov.

I still don’t think we are likely to see a “creative” midfielder. What we will hopefully see is a midfielder that is much better with the ball than Coventry and Docherty are, so then our wing backs, attacking midfielder and strikers get the ball in good areas more often to do the creating and scoring

All this talk of "we can't afford so and so's wages", "we have a really small budget", "we're shopping in Lidl not Waitrose"... does anyone actually know for sure what we can or cannot afford.  Anyone actually seen the budget?  I think there is a lot of speculation whern nobody really knows what is going on!  Club is hardly going to publish the budget!
I believe a few knowledgeable people have mentioned the budget will be similar to last year. If that's correct them we can expect a similar season to last.
Ahh ! 'The Knowledgeable People' were they formerly known as the 'in the knows' ? I fail to see why any Football club would make their transfer budget public Knowledge, I would assume that the correct approach from Charlton to the selling club would be, 'we haven't got a pot to piss in but we happy to give you £500,000 out of that empty pot'.

I think any midfielder can be classed as creative if all they have to do is be better than doc and cov on the ball.

They need to be better than JRC, Carey and Knibbs too.  I actually agree with Naby though, and if we had wing backs that could create and more self sufficient strikers , we could get by with mobile and energetic midfielders .  Not that we have those per se

Doc was great last few games of the season. Need someone who can do it over an entire campaign though.

Sounds like his agent fishing for a contract extension. Great bloke that works his socks off but I don't see him starting week in week out for us so maybe he would be up for a move.

Doc will be a useful player to have in squad and will have a big role to play next season even when we do bring in an upgrade at number 8. Would be reluctant to sell him given how tough we are finding it to bring first team players.

Hopefully Jones can build a squad capable of taking a 1-0 lead, then immediately setting up camp on the edge of their own six-yard box for the remainder of the game, whether there are 5 minutes left or 85.

Did it away at Boro perfectly.
