You have been told what has happened by a couple of posters. But a lot on here chose to ignore it.charlton_hero said:It's looking like Grant is a done deal.
Surely Grant and Redmond can't have been priority targets at the start of the summer, I wonder what's happened.0 -
Wonder if we will see Grant appear as a trialist in the game today?0

Agree with all of that with the exception of not ever being in a relegation scrap. Just because we were not ever in the bottom three doesn’t mean we weren’t looking over our shoulder for large parts of the second half of last season.SouthLincsAddick said:
I don’t think people can grasp how difficult it was to recruit for such a competitive league with the 3rd worst budget (or they don’t want to understand), especially when we had to overhaul most of the L1 squad. We would’ve been at the back of the queue for all signings, not being able to offer wages remotely close to the rest of the league. Our only choice would’ve been high risk signings, L1 players who maybe could make the step up and experienced championship players with dodgy injury records. Had we been relegated then there might been some merit to the criticism, but we were never in a relegation scrap and were ultimately successful. There was a high wastage in the recruitment but I believe that would have been part of the plan. What do you want, a no risk recruitment policy and a return to L1, I don’t?AberystwythAddick said:

Olaofe was what £1.5m? Apter rumoured at £2m+. That’s really not much in the grand scheme of things and the money the owners have put into the club over the past few yearsAberystwythAddick said:

If they expected every expensive signing to go well then they were very naive in the first place. I wonder if the owners will tell NJ he has to stick with Apter and Olafe as he only bought them last season.I’d be furious if it was my money that had been wasted like that. You can’t say that you would be happy with the situation if it was your money.
Look at any championship club and they’ll have signed players for more that have flopped. I’m sure we will have more flops in future years if we stay at this level. I know we aren’t used to spending money so it maybe feels worse to us, but this is normal and if the owners have a huge problem with it then they probably shouldn’t own a championship football clubIt is what we have spent and they are two of our most expensive signings of the last 10 years. Certainly the two most expensive of the owners tenure. The money was paid because they were told that these were the players we needed to progress. 6 months later those players are back in league one, 12 months later we are seemingly trying to either sell them or loan them out again. That’s is unacceptable, there’s no spin you can put on it that changes that.We have one of the lowest budgets in the league those fees were huge for us.Perhaps what you find ‘unacceptable’ is the financial disadvantage we are under, in which case you should direct your frustration at the owners. Personally, I think they’ve been outstanding, to me they building a sustainable future for the club. We have come a long way since they arrived.4 -
Managers are ten a penny in this game. Show me the Money is what the player wants.NabySarr said:
I mean plenty of his players are on record saying they absolutely love playing for him, and a few of them keep signing for him. So yes I think players do want to play for JonesValleyLocal said:Besides the budget. Would anyone decent want to play for Jones?
I wouldn't.2 -
A lot of people are going to look a bit silly if (when?) Grant turns out to have never been a target in the first place.3
-
At this stage I don't care who we sign, get them in now so that in two games we can slag them off, bin him out and then question our recruitment. Isn't that what everyone wants?2

Jones inherited a pub team heading for division 2. Against the odds kept us up & the following season with an average squad we won promotion. Last season we were favourites for relegation overachieved again. I don’t think Jones would worry about you not wanting to play for him! 🤣

If it'd Grant then I am all for it ..he's a local lad and that might be the motivation for him to return..he's an upgrade ..the risk is are we paying too much and is it another Ben Watson? In Jones we trust0

Has redmond been with us a month now? At least he is being properly assessed.Id take grant, surely better than any of our forwards.
as others have said, we need a marquee signing or two in the middle of the park1 -
As we’re finding out with Holsgrove, we’re not a lucrative side so maybe we need to take a few gambles again this year and hope 50% work out7

WBA wanted him to re sign on less wages as he will be 29 in September. Think as a free he is worth signing up ,but wages with him are always going to be a problem, unless he goes abroad2

Did Jones work with Grant, when he was first here?
I recall it was Smith and Piggott up top, but can't remember the timeline2 -
A common and very annoying mistake. The Mohawk warriors traditionally plucked out (not shaved or cut) all their hair apart from a small 3" square on the crown which was braided and decorated.AddicksAddict said:

The style of hair falsely attributed to them is actually a Pawnee Nation one.

An interesting game today if Mwamba & Fullah feature greatly again maybe the club think we don’t need as many signings as we do3

Think Grant was with the U18s then, not impossible they’d have worked together a bit thoughbolloxbolder said:Did Jones work with Grant, when he was first here?

The owners know there’s a risk with recruitment. They also know that Chapple hadn’t had time to get his feet under the desk yet. They’ll also have seen the January recruitment went well. All of that points to an upward trajectory in terms of recruitment successAberystwythAddick said:

They’re going to feature greatly again as we’ve not brought in any reinforcements. Them playing or not I don’t think is indicative of what we are planning transfer wise.AndyG said:An interesting game today if Mwamba & Fullah feature greatly again maybe the club think we don’t need as many signings as we do
Especially when Jones is quoted multiple times all the way back to April stating that to get that quality in it will take time.3 -
Shit happens. You look at any club and you’ll find signings that don’t work out, and many are more costly than our ‘flops’. I’m sure the owners realise this, it isn’t an exact science.AberystwythAddick said:

I'm sure they've asked some hard questions because no investor wants to throw millions away. But they're complex finance people and they understand risk better than anyone else understands anything.AberystwythAddick said:
