Absolutely right! We had no alternative but to take chances on lower league players some work and some don’t. I really hope the valley doesn’t turn toxic against Jones because I think it’s a certainty relegation. There’s really nothing more Jones can do & we need to remember this. Redmond at 32 not playing a full season for three years speaks volumes. Possibly we can cover the cracks with some loans. Either way I remember this club prior to when the current owners took over. I’m grateful for our progression but realistic this season.SteveACS said:

I don’t think people can grasp how difficult it was to recruit for such a competitive league with the 3rd worst budget (or they don’t want to understand), especially when we had to overhaul most of the L1 squad. We would’ve been at the back of the queue for all signings, not being able to offer wages remotely close to the rest of the league. Our only choice would’ve been high risk signings, L1 players who maybe could make the step up and experienced championship players with dodgy injury records. Had we been relegated then there might been some merit to the criticism, but we were never in a relegation scrap and were ultimately successful. There was a high wastage in the recruitment but I believe that would have been part of the plan. What do you want, a no risk recruitment policy and a return to L1, I don’t?AberystwythAddick said:

Look at any championship club and they’ll have signed players for more that have flopped. I’m sure we will have more flops in future years if we stay at this level. I know we aren’t used to spending money so it maybe feels worse to us, but this is normal and if the owners have a huge problem with it then they probably shouldn’t own a championship football clubIt is what we have spent and they are two of our most expensive signings of the last 10 years. Certainly the two most expensive of the owners tenure. The money was paid because they were told that these were the players we needed to progress. 6 months later those players are back in league one, 12 months later we are seemingly trying to either sell them or loan them out again. That’s is unacceptable, there’s no spin you can put on it that changes that.We have one of the lowest budgets in the league those fees were huge for us.Perhaps what you find ‘unacceptable’ is the financial disadvantage we are under, in which case you should direct your frustration at the owners. Personally, I think they’ve been outstanding, to me they building a sustainable future for the club. We have come a long way since they arrived.2 -

The club would like to welcome back Kim Grant after a 30 year hiatus with the club. Kim who established himself as a reliable squad player during our time in what was then the Championship in the mid 90s brings experience and a deep connection to the club’s routes.Although 53, Kim still believes he has a lot to add to the team and looks forward to reforming his partnership with Leaburn22

Maybe the owners don't trust NJ with their money. What would you do if your employee came to you this summer & said "boss, we need another 5 or 6 players as the current ones are no good"..?. Would you hand over another £10m and say..." here you are, spunk that lot up the wall" Or would you question why those players are no good & what the manager was going to do about it ?charltonbob said:
We need to bring in signings asap if possible irrespective of letting whoever go or we risk missing out on targets. I'm sure loaning out/selling players before the end of the window will be easier the later into the window we get whereas our targets will be getting a nice pre season with their new clubs.golfaddick said:

The likes of Apter & Tanto only attracting interest from League Two clubs who aren’t willing to pay any wages.
If so we might have to take a haircut (see what I did there) on a few like Tanto & Apter just so we start the season with the players we want.
If they don't trust NJ with their money & they don't want to sack him then Division 3 here we come. Knowing your normal negativity I'm surprised at your stance of sticking up for the owners

Equals Jones & co being cautious and careful.3 -
As employers, I'm sure they're delighted that Jones has delivered on everything he said he would and has met every ambitious target they've set him. I don't doubt there's a reasonable level of scrutiny, but an expectation that every single transfer is a success doesn't seem reasonable to me. While we're creating hypothetical scenarios, if you said to your employee, "Here's your budget, go and meet your targets," and they did just that, why wouldn't you be prepared to do the same again?golfaddick said:

Honestly when we signed Oloafe I thought he was an absolute handful against us and looked handy. We were shopping in the only shop available to us at the time. We would never have lured players from established championship side to a team that’s tipped to go straight back down. With this, some signings work, some don’t.. simple as that!charltonbob said:golfaddick said:

Hate Grant, heard many a story about him. None of it good.6

Average % of transfers which are successful is 50%. There are levels of success of course, but every Club Blog would be able to come up with an immediate list of unsuccessful transfers. They can fail for lots of reasons and, often, with the benefit of Harry Hindsight3

Or perhaps when promotion was achieved, the owners and Jones sat down and assessed given the overhaul needed and the time and money available to get the players in, that there would need to be some calculated gambles which were better than 50/50 but would provide a squad needed. Not everything needs to be viewed as abject failure which it seems to me you always turn to as a first option. Certainly Olaofe and Apter have thus far beeen fails but perhaps that’s built in rather than your perception.AberystwythAddick said:

We desperately need to bring in a striker and if the rumours about our budget are true and I suspect being third or fourth lowest are correct then someone like Grant without a fee is probably good business. Has the experience we need and his age is good. Injuries to his hamstring are a concern but we are where we are in terms of who we can afford to get in. I’ll be honest I don’t know enough about Redmond to reach a verdict but I have loosely followed Grants career since he left us. Without the club blasting upwards of £8 million on a striker I’d be interested to see who the critics would have us sign ?

Other clubs are irrelevant in this situation. So are hypotheticals on what we could spend.NabySarr said:
Olaofe was what £1.5m? Apter rumoured at £2m+. That’s really not much in the grand scheme of things and the money the owners have put into the club over the past few yearsAberystwythAddick said:
But in this case it was every expensive signing, going poorly.NabySarr said:
If they expected every expensive signing to go well then they were very naive in the first place. One look at pretty much every teams transfer business each season would tell them that this isn’t uncommonAberystwythAddick said:1 in 1 out might make this a very very slow window. I wonder if the owners will tell NJ he has to stick with Apter and Olafe as he only bought them last season.I’d be furious if it was my money that had been wasted like that. You can’t say that you would be happy with the situation if it was your money.
We have come a long way since they arrived. They were told that these players would be the ones to progress us, they paid the money required and were subsequently sold a pup.I find it very funny that some of you think the owners wouldn’t be annoyed or angry with this. Us placing a significant portion of our transfer funds on two players who are now being shipped out after less than 30 appearances Between the two is absolutely mental and should be criticised. There is an element of risk with every signing. Sometimes they come off sometimes they don’t.Don’t act like every other manager is signing worldies that always work out for them.
Liverpool made some shocking signings.
I'm sure there are others.1 -

But I suppose it keeps the masses happy for a while3
