Carey and Knibbs I see as the goal scoring midfielders, but unless we get a pacey/attacking RWB, TC is still the only player we have that can take on players and run at them, plus Redmond. We need stronger in this position imo

Knibbs is definitely not up to it and Carey was not second half of last season. I would rather neither were in the first 11.

Jury still out on Knibbs for me given his campaign was hit by injuries, but he needs a big season.

Carey, his goals were priceless, but I agree with you re: 2nd half of the season. Looked very much like a passenger

Carey is fine, had a great first season with us. He faded because he was knackered, he’d never played that much football in one season before and because of Knibbs injuries we couldn’t rotate/sub him enough

Same with TC, I think both him and Carey will look much better than they did at the back end of last season now that they’ve had a bit of a breather this summer

Agree with this. Carey was asked to maintain that level of physical output for a whole season which just isn’t possible.

He was brilliant at the start, and writing him off now because of how he finished I think is short sighted

Think it’s a bit of both, going off this preseason he really doesn’t look far off Coventry, but whilst we would all like multiple midfielders I think Jones would be content with just one solid 6 or 8.

Against Hull, we played a box midfield with Carey on the left, and Knibbs on the right. If seemed to get the best out of both of them.

A solid, ball carrying, no. 8, if NJ chooses to play his preferred 5-3-2 makes sense.

I would say keeping certain players this window will be huge, Lloyd obviously.

CC I would hate to get rid of, he’s solid, not injury prone, has had champ experience now and I only see him improving on that. Also keeping Godden and having Kelman with another years champ exp, that’s a spine of a team that are developing and working together. Can only be a good thing.

Too much is put on getting new people in without taking into consideration they won’t do well. NJ is adding to the team and relying and trusting players to work and improve under him, he’s building a culture and the last time we did that we all know what happened.

No, the kid is talented, clubs want him on loan as he’s a top player, and you should big up your own talent.

and we can do both, as I expect to see two more signings in midfield

Just not that simple is it. As @Braziliance said about Aribo, sometimes players do/don’t click at clubs. Maybe Redmond does here. And he won’t spend the first few weeks of a deal getting up to match fitness because he’s done pre season. He could also have dropped his wage demands, that might have been an issue for sticking around those other clubs. If he’s relatively cheap then I think he’s a worthwhile option and gives TC someone to learn from

It seems pretty simple to me - he’s shit and we shouldn’t sign him.

We don't need square pegs in round holes. Also Aribo has never been blessed with a tonne of pace and being a number 10 shoehorned onto the wing in a farmers league isn't the same thing as a less motivated, slower 29 year old Aribo playing right wing all season in one of the most demanding leagues in world football

I’m a big fan of using the ‘backside barometer’ to determine how effective a player will be. The bigger the backside, the worse they are

Hasselbaink arrived with a big arse, he was awful. Jaiyesimi or Mansfield as he was popularly known, also had an extremely fat arse and was also poor. Take a look at Aribo, he’s also got a big bum and in my opinion, is absolutely on the wrong end of the rump scale to be effective

I think Jones is talking up Mwamba in the same way that he did with Fullah. Both definitely have promise but we saw with Fullah that, bar a few great touches, he struggled to make an impact. Hopefully they both continue their progression and come through, but we definitely need to spend on established quality in the midfield if we are to evolve the way Jones wants us to.

I think you have missed the world versatility. He's best position is as no8 but lacks the ball progression for me to be the answers to solve the main problem we have in that position. As versatile option I would take him but that all.
