    Anderson being given a four year contract, with a year extension option, gives him a nice bit of security for a young man.  Good luck to him.

    He needed game time as you said, would have wanted him as our first choice CM next season? Unfortunately he didn’t take his chance last season when he did play, and we’re aiming to improve on last season.

    He can get to this level in time but we can’t give him the game time he needs, and we can’t loan players out until their mid 20s in case they develop enough to make it with us.
    The frustrating thing though is that it felt a bit like he needed a season of playing every week before we made this decision. He was in and out of the team in 24/25 and then wasn't consistent enough to nail down a place in The Championship but aged 21 a full season's loan might have been just what he needed to figure some stuff out. We wouldn't need to loan him out until his mid 20s, he could have his first ever season of playing every week and we could have then assessed him. He might still not have been at the level but it feels like we've jumped a bit early to generate cash for signings. That might work for us this season if we can bring in the right players as a result but it's not the best long term strategy
    I agree but this is what "ruthless" means.

    We need to generate funds and this gives us a fee and frees up wages.

    And Karoy himself seems to see it as a good move which I think says a lot about him as he's wiiling to drop down a divison and move away from home in order to play. All credit to him.

    Maybe Blackpool will take Apter back too?
    It’s not just fees and wages, it’s squad size. We’re limited to 25 players, excluding u-21s. If we want to bring in experienced players, we need slots.  Unfortunately for Karoy, he counts as one of the 25 for the first time. Squad size limits really do put pressure on young players to make their case before they hit 21.

    I thought he was done and then he absolutely ruined us for Brighton at the valley when they battered us 0-4.  Slightly hit and miss technically at times but always 100 percent and never hid

    What a shame to see him go - always gave 100% and often came on as a sub and influenced a game .  Would have much rather seen JRC walk out the door - no pace , no engine and walks around like he could not care less.

    Good move for the young man and unlike some of the "ignorant" boo boys on here, I think he will go on to have a good career. I think its probably the best move for all involved however, we need better options in midfield immediately to maintain survival and he needs to play more.

    Best of luck Karoy, never bottled a match and was thrown in at the deep end during a very troubling time at our club.

    I would be surprised if it is that much.  While transfer fees are out of control in the championship,  most clubs in league one outside of the top 4-5 aren’t spending much on transfer fees

    I’m guessing but I’d suspect more like 200k with hopefully a decent sell on percentage.

    Which was a bit of a problem, because after 60 minutes, he tired, and began to make mistakes. (His back pass in the 3-2 Blackburn game springs to mind!)

    You'd always start him though. He'd win you the midfield in the first half.

    I would struggle to choose the best midfielder out of Karoy, Doc and Coventry. If Anderson is L1 at best, so are the other two (who are older).

    What i will say is that the Coventry, Docherty partnership just isn't good enough. 
    It's no coincidence that when Coventry was replaced by Coady that his performance was much better. 

    Both need replacing in my honest opinion

    I was hoping Karoy would step up as he has lots of assets in his game but I suppose you have to give up on that at some point.

    I'll give you a hint which one it wasn't, the one we have loaned out, and then subsequently sold, to a League 1 side.

    I know Ronnie doesn't get a lot right, but us coming to an agreement to waive part of the Apter fee, which I'm guessing is paid in installments over a couple of years, makes sense to me.

    How much that was, who knows, but at a guess I reckon somewhere between £300k and £500k.

    I think it's still 100% in our interests to take the money for Karoy now? Because that counts as 'pure profit' under the EFL rules.

    Fantastic engine on him, and he was a game-changer at Wembley for that. But, he's never going to be a Championship midfielder, his technical ability is too far off. 500k for him would be very good.

    Someone probably once said that about Darren Pratley. Greg Docherty isn’t technical either. I don’t disagree it’s a weakness that will limit him, but he’s not so far off he can be written off as never playing above L1 at only 21.

    He played 73 times in the league for us. In an ideal world I would've liked us to keep him too but I'm not sure the argument that we didn't give him enough time holds up.

    He's ready for first team football and we're not in a position to give him that. We're doing right by him to allow him to go out and build his career.
