     I’d rather ... ditch Burke , personally.
And how would you do that? He is on contract and no club would match what we are paying him, which includes the "crony of Nathan" supplement.

No idea on their track record but a poster on Plymouth Life said that Mitchell has a medical there yesterday
If we are playing 4 -3-3, I’d rather keep him and ditch Burke , personally .
No one is taking Burke because of his history record, whereas Mitchell you can get a fee for.

Burke struggles with injuries but he is very good when he’s fit
You are right ,of course .  I wouldn’t have signed Burke in the first place

I guess it reflects the fee we paid for him! In this division it’s chicken feed.

Can't see the deal for Karoy that's been doing the rounds for weeks being made official without a replacement already lined up. I guess you can just about get through preseason with what we've got but I'd like to think by the time we play Reading we have a new look midfield.
If we had started the season relying on Anderson we would have been in trouble from the getgo.
  • What level of outrage are we at?

Charlton boss Nathan Jones says the club are taking a patient approach in the transfer market.

"We're in a decent place. This is a patient window. We have the nucleus of a really good squad, but what we need to add is a bit more flair, a bit more quality and zest in one-v-one areas and at the top end of the squad.

"That takes a bit more time to get in, but we're confident that when the Championship starts we'll have everyone that we plan to sign."

Jones also played down the prospect of adding another striker immediately.

"Lyndon [Dykes] is someone we've had, and we like. At the minute we have six strikers, so something will need to change there if we're going to bring in another one," he told BBC Radio London.

"We are on top of all contacts. We are not pressured by anything or anyone."

  • I suspect the deal for Anderson will be built around what we owed for Apter

How very depressing. But sadly quite likely accurate

I’ve seen Lankshear who was on loan at Oxford mentioned as an option. Going to Boro in £10+ mill deal. The market really is whack a doodle!
This is why the midfield hasn't seen much transfer activity yet - I have no doubt Jones knows as well as anyone how much improving is needed, he will be as eager as any of us if not moreso to get it done but when Lankshear is going for a 7 figure fee the market is just completely insane.
Hes good yes, but 10 million pounds good? I just don't see it.
I think this shows our roadmap has to be taking some gambles on young players and hoping a couple really break out. Get into a cycle of selling your best player every couple of seasons for these kind of fees and then using the expanded budget to gamble on youngsters with even higher ceilings. Basically the Coventry model.
With the possible exception of T Campbell, there is no clear sign yet  that we can bring through young players at this stage in the Champ. It looks more likely that we have to rely on Coadys and Grants, experienced Champ players with some life left in them.
Our Academy has been great in League One, but I am not sure it is going to produce Champ level players any time soon.

It's not bringing them through, it's holding onto them.  There are 5-6 in PL academies who grew up at Charlton and left before signing contracts.  We need to find a way to hold onto those players like Millwall did with Esse.
    Cat 1 for starters

Rob Apathy. Winger signed from Blackpool.
  • Nathan Jones saved Luton in 2020 from relegation, the next season 21/22 they finished 6th

Looking at the Luton recruitment Summer 2021

Fred Onyedinma: Signed from Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee, arriving as the club's first major piece of business that summer.

Allan Campbell: The Scotland international midfielder was purchased from Motherwell for an undisclosed development fee.

Carlos Mendes Gomes: Brought in for an undisclosed fee following a standout season with Morecambe.

Reece Burke: The central defender joined on a free transfer after turning down a new contract at Hull City.

Amari'i Bell: The left-back was signed on a free transfer following his departure from Blackburn Rovers.

Henri Lansbury: The veteran midfielder joined on a free transfer after his short-term contract at Bristol City expired.

Cameron Jerome: The experienced striker arrived on a free transfer from Milton Keynes Dons.

Doesn't look much on paper, maybe the League was easier !
  • When you’re so desperate you’ll sign any old bloke

    Apparently we're in for Geezer.

    Fine by me...

How much are we paying him?

  • We’ve made 3 good quality signings and it’s mid July, if we have another 3 of similar quality in the next 2/3 weeks to add to our current squad we will be in a better position than last year.

We need to realise that our progression is going to be slow, steady and sustainable. We aren’t going to be spending 8 figures on a player any time soon.
Exactly. There is no chance that we are going from the lets say rather basic style of last season into a free flowing footballing side in one window. Even aside the financial issues, a complete overhaul like that would mean players we already signed to play one way would then be expected to be equally good in a totally different style, which seems unlikely.

However if we succeed in adding the flair and cutting edge Jones is talking about, we can hopefully score a few more goals and wont be reliant on spending vast swathes of time trying to hold onto a one goal lead.

Striker we signed from Ipswich and now on loan to Cambridge, but you spelled it wrongly. Should be Apathme.

Well, I've got the forwards number at seven, I haven't included Mbick, so unless Nathan Jones is not including Tyreece as a forward, then his maths are really bad or someone is on the move.
He actually named them and didn’t include TC. It surprised me but I suppose he’s never played as an out and out striker
  • Another hint that we're playing wingers, IMO

He named Godden, Kelman, Leaburn, Olaofe, Mbick and Kanu

I expect Kanu and maybe Olaofe to go and one new ST to come in

Yeah I expect DK and Olaofe out and a " senior" striker in. Mbick around until Jan and then we reassess

From their end they seem to think it’s already completed and will be announced very soon. Cleverly also hinted they would be making moves once Tolaj has gone.

Z.Mitchell, A.Mitchell, Anderson and Ahadme all gone so far player trading wise I think this is much better than what we’ve seen in previous years.
  • Lankshear to Middlesbrough, 10m fee with a further 10m in potential add ons.
