I’m sorry what! You can’t get better technically after the age of 21??? That is a ridiculous thing to say. Of course you can get much better at his agewmcf123 said:

i think his physicality will mean he has a decent career and if he has a good, full season in League 1 with a promotion chasing team he would then make the step up. He’s still only 21 so game time will improve him
all the best Karoy, wherever you’re off to.
He can 100% still improve technically, and he can also improve his decision making which will mean he makes the right decisions on the ball more often. He needs to play regularly to do this though which is why he needed the move. Can easily see Karoy becoming a championship footballer but I think the judgement we’ve made is he won’t get there in the next 2 years which means we’re better off getting rid8 -
Bit sad about this - as others have said, hits a little different when it's one of our own. Key for me now is getting someone in who can match his pace and energy. Our midfield is so one-paced and pedestrian it's not even funny, and there were times last season I thought we could definitely use Karoy's snap around the paddock. Hope he has a good career - his header in front of us at Wycombe away and the subsequent limbs was probably my regular season highlight of our promotion that year.2

However he is an international player that is still only 21 so there is every chance he will improve. Therefore i hope we've been smart in any deal and included a good sell on clause and first dibs on a buy back.0 -
Exclusive from Ronnie, the fee we owed for Apter has paid for Karoy.Bostonaddick said:
I would be surprised if it is that much. While transfer fees are out of control in the championship, most clubs in league one outside of the top 4-5 aren’t spending much on transfer feesgolfaddick said:"Undisclosed"........so what do we reckon ? £500k ? More or less ?2 -
Sad to see him go, but he needs regular first team football and it was unlikely he'd be getting it with us this season. Blackpool are obviously keen to have him if they're giving him a 4 year deal, and he knows the place and the people, so it seems like a good move for him. Hopefully freeing up the space in the squad will help us strengthen in midfield, and ideally the deal has a decent sell-on involved should he blossom with more experience.3

Talking to a Blackpool fan early they were saying if we sold him for 300k it would have been one of the bargains of the season and that’s even if it included a sell onLittleAddick said:Fantastic engine on him, and he was a game-changer at Wembley for that. But, he's never going to be a Championship midfielder, his technical ability is too far off. 500k for him would be very good.0 -
I understand that fans of a club have a tendency to overemphasize a player whether negative or positive but Blackpool fans confuse me. The first half of Karoys loan they were talking about how he is non league standard and the 12th man for the opposition because of how frequently he turned the ball over. The second half of the loan he performed well and they are saying he is a young player with huge potential and that he will be a steal as a transfer. Obviously somewhere in the middle but I don’t know if I have ever seen fans so quickly change their mind about a player0

Sorry to see Karoy go. Hope we don’t regret it0

If we were in league one, he would play and develop with us. We arent and he's not ready for championship football this season and probably not next either.Better for him to have a stable first team contract as he develops, and im sure he will make it in the championship. He has technical ability just not yet the nous to trust hImself to use it.0

Posting without reading the last couple of pages. I love Karoy, and hes been excellent for us imho. Hes not quite up to where we need to be at this moment in time, but Blackpool clearly like him and the length of contract gives him security and time to grow and boss that midfield like he 100% can do! Happy he'll get game time and excited hes got an opportunity to play regularly. Someone made a comparison with Darren Pratley earlier and thats one i recognise. One of our own. Good luck KA2

The dream midfield double pivot of Karoy Anderson and Albie Morgan - where we could have been if we didn't keep having our best youngsters poached!
Not adding anything new here, but wish him all the best. Seems a great lad, never shirked on the pitch, contributed to our first team during a successful season, and now leaves us for a fee. All solid returns on the investment the club made in him as a graduate of our academy.
I thought he might get one more year because, if he can develop the technical side of his game a bit, he is tailor made for a Nathan Jones midfield, and it was clear NJ could see that from day one. NJ said it was time to be ruthless though and I think this demonstrates he meant it.
I think his technical limitations get massively overplayed by some - to read some comments on here you'd think he was a long-distance runner masquerading as a footballer, but who could barely kick a ball straight.
His physical attributes and his bravery and aggression are clearly his strengths, but I believe, with time and the right coaching, there are acorns of technical ability that can be nurtured, maybe not into mighty oaks, but perhaps respectable sized shrubs.
However, a bit like when we let Harry Arter go all those years ago, he's not quite at a level where he can get the game time he needs here. It's probably best for his long-term development that he goes to play at a lower level and tries to work his way back. If he gets the right coaching and plenty of game time, he absolutely has in his locker to be a championship level player again one day. I very much hope he achieves that.9 -
I see both points, you will definitely get better tactically as you age and play more games. Technically I’m not so sure, you kind of have what you have by the age of 20, the rest is mostly in-game intelligence.NabySarr said:

There are countless examples of players getting better at finishing, crossing, set piece delivery, passing range, heading etc and these are all technical skills. The idea you don’t improve much technically after 20 is just wrong, why are players practicing all these skills all week if it isn’t to get better at them?ElliotCAFC said:

In my opinion, players improve their decision-making as they get older: i.e knowing when to shoot, when to pass, or how much weight to put on a cross.
What they don’t tend to improve is the actual mechanics of striking the ball. There will always be examples of strikers scoring more goals as they get older or midfielders getting more assists, but I think that’s usually down to better positioning, composure, anticipation, and decision-making rather than a significant improvement in their underlying technique.

Many examples of players who have developed their technical ability later on. Lots of players who work with private coaches specifically on their technique, movement and positional awareness. Particularly in the off-season. A very good example is the wing back Denzel Dumfries who often was mocked for his technical ability and (first) touch even while playing for PSV and Inter Milan. I believe he has now signed for Real Madrid. Another one is Antoine Semenyo. You can find clips on several social platforms.ElliotCAFC said:

Of course Karoy can improve, but you don't keep players around just in case they become a decent Championship midfielder in a few years, he's not a 16 year old. And I'm not sure that attributes like a player's first touch will ever improve that much.
It's the nature of football that clubs can outgrow players, and at the moment he's a decent L1 player, rather than a Championship one. Gillesphey moved back to L1 for the same reasons.

Not being a subscriber to the fancy platforms I always enjoy the ITV round up programme when it is on, I try to avoid knowing results in order to give the experience a bit of edge.
But one thing (and it is increasing) I like is when an ex-Charltonian is featured like George Lapslie or Brandon Hanlan, not to mention watching our players out on loan.
For me it gives our academy extra validation.0 -

Docherty isn’t a championship level midfielder either . What he was afforded last season was a lot of opportunities , which Anderson wasn’t. I’m not saying we should have kept Karoy- I think this moves suits everyone but it might be one that bites us further down the line .Scoham said:

Of course we want better than Doc, but he played a big part in us staying up. When Anderson got his chance he couldn’t keep his place in the team. Doc has his limitations on the ball but at the moment he’s more consistent and reliable in a way that Anderson isn’t yet which helped us compete at this level.wmcf123 said:

Harry Kane is probably another but i'd agree with the original comment - i like KA's attitude, engine and physicality but the 'with the ball' side of his game is never going to improve by the amount it needs to, to be a champ or prem player. If NJ and the club disagreed, they wouldn't be selling him.AddickNL88 said:

Nothing to add that hasn't already been said (about Karoy), really liked his attitude and he's an absolute monster in the press. Technically and tactically still needs work and is still developing. I think he develops into a Championship player. He'll always be welcome back at The Valley as far as I'm concerned.5
