Another very good experienced championship player and solves the right back / wing back gives us few more options in what system we want to play … people will moan but it will be another major increase in our wages .. and still leaves big chunk off our budget for the midfielders

I wonder if Jones sees him and JRC as the right back options?

They can both play multiple positions and could be fairly interchangeable

There have been players who have switched between Charlton and Millwall. But this guy didn't just join them, he joined his favourite team on the planet. I really don't see him fancying a move to the local rivals.
Well this aged well. Almost five minutes before he signed....

Millwall improved as a team once he was phased out of their lineup in the last couple of years.

And players that already know the club ..and the area so will hit the ground running .. think that’s the defence and full backs done now looks like we have good balance and hopefully cope much better with injures etc ..

Doubt it with JRC , obviously he can play there but the whole reason he came to us was to play CM again.

I'm happy with this. Solid championship right back as back-up and competition for Ramsay.

Well Millwall are now a top Championship side. We’re aspiring to that. If he improves us and consolidates our Championship status then I’m absolutely fine with that.

More like Ramsay and McNamara. Does look to me like this is another step to playing with a back four.

An experienced player but not one who adds our attacking options that NJ spoke about, so I’d expect the last few signings strengthen us in CM, on the wing and maybe up front.

This is all very well, but we are no closer to sorting out the issue of midfield creativity and number of chances created.

And if we are moving to a back 4 we have a lot of defenders to find room for...unless someone is heading out the door of course (and I'm not just talking about Alex Mitchell)

If playing 4 at the back that is it sorted

    RB - Ramsay & Danny
    LB - Edwards & Ivan M
CB - Jones, Bell, Billy, Collins, Reece B & Gough.
Bell’s best position in a 4 is probably left back too, which means we can really ease Edwards back in if needed

Maybe Gough will go out on loan, and we know Burke has his injury issues.

Even so, if we are moving to a back 4, which seems likely, surely we are going to have to move on more CBs?

Do not want Bell playing CB in a 4 but he does become a LB option. Don’t think McNamara means we become an exclusively back 4 team but when we do play a 5 it’ll probably be a more traditional and defensive set up, a bit like up at Boro. Ramsay can play the defensive RWB role well

He's only ever scored five goals too, so doesn't help our striking options.

This signing isn't supposed to fix those problems. He's a right back. He's been signed as a right back. To provide depth and cover at right back. You can't solve all issues with one signing. Bloody hell.

Looks like we’re watching the budget carefully.
Over the years players we have signed from Millwall have tended to be OK without being sensational.
Cripps, Dunphy, Walker, some others I have forgotten.
If McNamara is reasonable he will only get abuse (being ex Millwall) if he isn’t prepared to give everything for the shirt.
This is a wait and see signing.

Not really the wages we’re paying are a lot more coming in then the players going out .. plus it leaves key money for the important positions further up the pitch which always cost more then defenders

We do need a couple of wingers now though. Redmond + a more expensive starter

Do you know the wages the incomings will be getting?

This is where I wouldn't be surprised if a big fee comes out. Abu Kamara would fit the bill actually.
