Yep, if we stay up but also see some good signs of development from the players we’ve signed in the last couple of years and our academy players then that will be a great season. You raise a very valid point regarding realism mate but I also think it depends on what you want from the club as a fan. For example (apart from the sudden influx of cash) I honestly would not want to see us get promoted to the Premiership as the thought of watching us get tonked every week and coming straight back down again does not excite me. For me if we can build as a club and become a stable decent Championship side that will do me. So we all have different expectations and desires which feed our desire for the type of players we should be signingcafc_se7 said:

We have to be realistic that, purely in terms of budget we have a battle on but I remain optimistic that there are 3 more good signings coming our way to give us a better finish than last season.1 -

Key. A slow progression demands an improvement. Anything less is not progress. Hopefully the squad is going to be stronger which is progress but 21st wouldn’t be failure either. What is vital is that we avoid relegation at all costs. That would be a disaster.RC_CAFC said:

Bringing in Karlan Grant is also an upgrade to our attacking options. He may not have set the world alight at West Brom, but his quality was still clear to see, and I think there’s every chance Jones gets the best out of him.
I’m confident Jones will bring in at least two midfielders before the window closes. While I’m not convinced Kamara will happen, we’re clearly in the market for a winger or another direct attacking player.
It’s going to be a long, tough season in the Championship, but I trust Jones to build a side that’s competitive, just as he did last season. There’s still plenty of work to do, but I’m encouraged by the direction we’re heading.

I always look to see improvement each season so anything higher than 19th will do for me. An improved style of play is key.10

We also need to be better at buying and selling, especially the latter. It helps being in the Championship, as valuations shoot up if a player with potential has proven they look at home at this level.cafc_se7 said:

That's why you don't just have to look at how much rival Championship clubs have spent, you also need to look at how much they've brought in. Being able to sell at a high price is essential at this level, which may mean selling your best players if the fee is correct or there is a risk of their value dropping as their contracts run down.
I always think of Brentford buying Konsa from us in the summer of 2018, then making a fat profit a year later when they sold him on. Or just missing promotion in 19/20, then selling Watkins and Benrahma that summer, buying Toney for a fraction of that money, and going up the next season.
Mbick potentially could be worth a lot more than Brighton offered in January, so really good that the owners didn't cash in too quickly.6 -
