Given the right midfield, I think we would get more out of Dykes as he became more and more isolated for us after a good start. Until we sort the midfield I don’t see much of a change in our play, you could play anyone with we have with similar outcomes of effectiveness. A couple of good ones in the middle turns us into a very competitive side, until then it’s difficult to make any real judgement on any of our forwards.

if we could just get a player who can dictate games the fans could get behind this. I know it’s a pipe-dream but Ray-Saki would be fantastic for us. Stupid comment I know! Out of our price range.

    M. Alli.
Baring in mind that we’ve apparently signed a player tonight I’m guessing this is based on hearing something. I’ve never been impressed but maybe NJ can get a tune out of him.

Personally would much prefer Kamara over Alli. Pompey fans would choose the former over the latter.

I'm guessing Alli would have been one of the last signings Chapple made for Luton?

Sorry only kidding😂, I don’t think he’s been that great since being with us, expected him to have kicked on a bit more.

Abu Kamara mentioned but could be Alli. Happy with either, both would be ideal.

You’re right he’s disappointed since being with us. He’s got great balance and can go past defenders either side so there’s potential

Cost Hull 4mish and tore it up at Pompey in league one. Was good at hull when he first signed, spent part of last season on loan at getafe. Pompey thought they'd got him so would be a bit of a statement if we snooped in.

Will definitely improve us. Quite similar to Rak-Sakyi in the way he plays. Left footed right winger who is also capable of playing on the left. Good height as well at 6 foot.

His best season was in L1 for Pompey a few years ago. Was on loan at Getafe who finished 7th in La Liga but barely played.

Not a proven Championship winger, but we don’t have the budget for that. He’s left footed so would give us something different, and would point towards Jones aiming to go with 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. Still only 23 so is young enough to improve.

I had a quick look at Getafe's season after Kamara was first linked. Turns out they scored under a goal a game, that's less than us. It's no wonder he struggled for attacking output really

Cheers, well as usual he will get my full support, hope it works out well.

That's why we haven't signed any midfielders. Who needs them when the defenders just hoof it forward 50 yards..

For me avoiding relegation would make next season a great season.
It is of course the first and main aim. But I don’t think a 21st place finish will constitute a great season. And I don’t believe Nathan Jones or the hierarchy would either.

They’ve definitely got their sights set on continuing improvement and development for the club.

We have to be realistic that, purely in terms of budget we have a battle on but I remain optimistic that there are 3 more good signings coming our way to give us a better finish than last season.
They probably need to, otherwise it is completely unfair on Nathan Jones.

Realistically, there are 15-18 teams who are all but guaranteed to finish above based on squad strength, league history and/or wages.

It is extremely unlikely we finish above the likes of Burnley, Wolves, West Ham, Boro, Norwich, Millwall, Southampton and Sheffield United.

Probably unlikely we finish above the other Championship regulars in Bristol City, Watford, Derby, West Brom (last season was a bit of an anomaly), Preston

Newcomers like Wrexham and Birmingham City just have too much financial muscle on us, and being blunt ambition as well. That makes 15 teams minimum we would do well to finish above.

It then leaves the remaining teams who are a bit mediocre like us in Pompey, Stoke, QPR and Blackburn. I would argue all of which except Blackburn are more likely to have a stronger season than us on paper.

21st is very good. It keeps us in one of the most competitive leagues and means we are always one good season away from Premier League football. I don’t know how anyone who looks at the quality of this league and how low our budget is, and can think 21st isn't a big achievement. I would take that right now.
You've laid it out in black and white for us.
So, in summary, HMS Piss The League is in dry dock this year.
Just got to stay in this league long enough until a bit of luck happens. Whether that's a fluke season, owners with more money than sense come in, or we make huge players sales that allow us to spend.

As long as we remain a Championship club based in London, we will always be an attractive proposition.

On a side note, I don't think Ramsay will extend his contract. I would be buzzing if he did but when I spoke to someone who was what I would say 'ITK' about him, it all sounded like he would just see out his contract here and see what offers come in. I reckon if Ramsay goes, Lloyd may as well, just a feeling on that one.

Will be more than happy to eat a slice of humble pie, and be very happy to be wrong, but I think it's alarming that Lloyd and Ramsay haven't signed extensions yet. They're on our books, we have known our league status for a while now, should be fairly routine.

If those two sign, I'll start to believe in the ownership and their ambition a bit more, if they can't convince those two, my doubts will creep further.

I'm hoping that it's true we've signed Kamara.
A possible sighting at the training ground & wikipedia being changed to Charlton is sounding promising.

This is the season Miles properly arrives if he's going to I reckon. As a previous poster said he's over the injuries and trusts his body again. I noticed a difference in his game after Dykes arrived and he seemed to discover some housery and used his physique to bully defenders.
Just needs to add goals to his game. And learn how to attack balls in the box.

Then we might have a striker worth his salt.
