  • NJ said four more after Grant.

McSpanner and now Alli leaves two to come.

I wonder if he was under promising and  there is room for 3 or more still to join or if four means four.

Not convinced based on what Luton and Portsmouth fans think of him but as always, every player deserves to be judged in a Charlton shirt, so we'll see. He's undoubtedly quick and reasonably young, so there's that.

The hopeful thing is Alli was relatively cheap, leaving bigger money in the budget for top drawer midfielders.
And they really do need to be top class not middle of the road.

We won't get away with it if we scrimp on buying genuine quality at 6/8/10.
  • I wonder if we'll look at the Loan Market this summer
My prediction will be "No" based off the last two Summers under Jones as Campbell / Bree have only been the sole incomings that way - I don't blame him in a way, as there is the risk we'll lose them in the January Window and it'll risk our campaign... January is the best time for loans, as you dont overpay, and its an easier way to plug any holes that appear... again like what we've done the last two seasons.
  • Welcome to the club 👍

Most will write you off so hopefully you can prove them wrong! Looking forward to seeing him go!

Imagine that will be a no for Fevs which is a shame.

Might as well with all the negative comments.
Opinions, everyone has one. Not everyone is going to be a happy clapper in everyday life
I am not a happy clapper. I just look on the positive side of things. Also if you don't like it you don't have to go.

Think we'll get one very very late in the window , maybe another CM.
  • IF we go on to sign 2 good CM's, a decent striker and Coady and Dykes as squad players and got rid of some of the dead wood then that would be a successful window in my opinion

I’m not complaining Mr Buttle. I’m saying not everyone is going to agree in life

I think it’s 2 more without outgoings (2 new midfielders)

Then a new striker if we can offload Kanu and Olaofe. And then finally (maybe wishful thinking) a right winger and Apter out
  • Smallbone next?

  • Still convinced Dykes will be the next one announced...🤔

Jones name drops Apter in the article, so don't be surprised to see him stay.

Grant, TC, Alli and Apter on the wings, is it enough? I still feel like it's light on the right, Alli is more comfortable on the left, is this where Redmond comes in? Is he fit enough to play a decent amount of games, and can he find the level of performance he showed earlier on in his career?

The midfielders are absolutely crucial to our success, but I still feel like we're missing a bit of a spark, despite Alli coming in
With all 4 playing on the "wrong" side for their foot, as is the modern way, we currently have 3 right footed wingers who like to cut in from the left, and only Apter who is left footed and likes to cut in from the right, which feels a bit imbalanced, unless one of the right footers plays as a conventional winger on the right.

Pretty underwhelmed with all our business so far if I’m honest. Not quite in the bed wetting camp but none of them excite me.

if rumours are true and it’s just Dykes and Coady to come in, then I’ll be lumping on a relegation.

Not even trying to be negative either, just seems we went for it more last summer in signings than this, albeit some of last summers were rancidio.

Been said on here a thousand times but if we do not bolster our central midfield, we are well and truly in for a long old season.

Hope the club are working on this and not just freebie signings on their way down.
Based on what Nathan has said assume 2 more and they would be centre mids as that’s where we’re weakest in terms of experienced numbers.

Cant see the logic with giving Dykes a contract when we’ve currently got 5 players potentially fighting over one starting place. Kanu and Olaofe would have to go before it would even be possible so reckon Dykes would be a bonus signing not one of the ones that’s been earmarked as our key positions to strengthen.

But agree Coady as one of those last 2 would be really disappointing.
  • I'm assuming we have moved on from Redmond now seeing as he wasn't involved yesterday.
  • I’m not panicking yet - think the signings have been positive. But if the next two signings are not correct then I have absolutely not a clue what Jones is thinking.

Watching us in league 1 it was clear that Doch and Cov were not championship quality. Getting promoted this was one of the largest improvement points I think we needed to make.

Then now we are going to our second season in the championship and perhaps 2 signings left to make, and yet to improve this area of the pitch.

I am hopeful we will, BUT if we don’t then I will be seriously asking questions about the management and scouting…

    time will tell..
  • Would hope now it's a pair of CMs for the bulk of the budget and another striker if we can get a deal done for Kanu.

Maybe a late loan flyer on a wingback/winger

It’s defo alli based on my tools used last night and there’s been more added since then! Bed wet away guys

I’ve decided I’ll keep an active look out for people using my tools because I didn’t really think about using it for this usecase before this

  • Each signing so far has filled a clear gap. We were woefully understaffed down the flanks, TC entirely on his own all season playing some kind of superhuman fullback/winger/striker hybrid. We now we have 3 seemingly decent options in that spot and unlocking the ability to rotate TC will be a huge win.

Let’s see if we plug the big remaining gaps in midfield.
  • I'm assuming we have moved on from Redmond now seeing as he wasn't involved yesterday.
I think it's more he's proved his fitness and we've seen him in games, so now it'll be about other targets and if we get them, and Redmond is the fall back if no-one else puts a contract under his nose in that time. If he came in a week before Dartford, he's been here for a month, so it's probably unnecessary to have him in any longer than that

Fair enough. I just get fed up with the moaning.

Some were underwhelmed with Dykes & Coady last season. Myself included, especially around Dykes.

IMO, both of them certainly contributed, helping us stay up (not saying I’d want to re-sign them now).

Just think it’s best to give the lads a chance, instead of writing them off within minutes of them signing.

That’s what my wife says after dessert
  • Sounds like Apter is going to get a chance, if we are playing with Wingers then it makes sense.

Agreed but I don't see another 5 signings being realistic, especially with the money decent CMs and strikers are likely to cost.

    Hopefully I'm proved wrong.
  • For all the sounding of having scouted Europe, we’ve not really used that option- and seemingly preferred to go for experienced UK based players, and the premium they come at

We can only bring in four (?) players from outside the UK though, unless they've International Experience
We've already got Sichenje and Mesik

Would expect this is deliberate and one of the CMs will take one of the slots

Offloading Dixon will have helped with this ironically.
  • Four year deal. Unbelievable
And the very experienced Championship (and ex-Prem) players get 2.

He got injured last week so I wouldn't bank on it
