Results mean Jack-shit. Its performances that matter.

    Are the new players gelling?
Have they mastered the pass & move ?
Are we playing free flowing football ?

I am going to quote this incessantly when we have 0 points from 6 games but are playing the best we have seen from Charlton for 15 years.

Or if we’ve won the first six games 1-0.

What about happiness? Is that so out of fashion or have we forgotten what it feels like!?

Lincoln Spanked 5-1 tonight by Grimsby and resorted to Matt Smith on loan.

Schumacher looked pissed in Bolton post match 0 transfer activity happening there and have spent nothing.

Blackburn have made 1 signing which was a winger we decided not to bring back.

Cardiff despite this whole 7.8M on a midfielder saga they’ve made 1 signing which was a loan to a permanent.

the rest of the the league may have gotten tougher but 3 weeks out till pre-season and there are teams doing far worse than us and Jones came out with positive news as wel tonight at this moment reckon we’ll be alright for season 2

Other Champ teams seem to test themselves with much tougher games….. prem / Serie A and La Liga teams. Why do we always seem to go for league 1 / 2 matches?

A real mixed bag . Just goes to show you shouldn’t take any notice of pre season friendly results.

It’s all about getting match fit and getting to know your teammates. Playing teams that will will see us as a challenge and will make the effort is much better than playing teams that will see us as a lower league pushover and try and keep the game as pedestrian and sterile as they can.

    Money.
    1. We are not an attractive opposition to play for opposing teams
    2.  For home games, it is often a financial transaction for a team to commit (either paid for through ticket sales, usually club funds ).

Biggest surprise for me, is that Watford don't play Udinese in a Pre-Season Friendly
Haven't done since 2014 - But then again we only ever had that one summer facing Standard Liege and STVV

I think we’d attract a European side if we had a home friendly, next year maybe

I might be completely wrong, but if we are trying to get better with the ball it probably makes more sense to play weaker opponents. We don’t need to practice defending against better teams because we are already very good at that

Exactly and even the weaker teams can give you something to think about as Wimbledon showed. It’s not like we’re playing dartford or welling every game, EFL clubs are always capable of giving you a game

Just proves pre season really should not be used to judge teams by!

Playing overseas teams yesterday at a different stage in their pre-season preparations. Hardly going to come in handy for what they will encounter week one of the Championship.

Losing 3-0 to a Reading side that only made 4 substitutions, 3 late on, suggests they had basically finished their pre-season and were playing an already fit starting eleven

That's the issue though, it was meant to be the end of our preseason too, however we're now having to play an extra game on Tuesday night and treat the Carabao Cup as a friendly too

The Tuesday game would make sense anyway because it takes 5 or 6 games to get match fit and players have only been making cameos so far. The cup match is a perfect game to play as the last match before the season starts. I doubt it will be treated as a friendly in any respect whatsoever, least of all by the two sets of fans.
