We have a guaranteed starting winger TC, now have Grant, Alli and Apter; of whom two won't start. Three tend to be on left. Buy starters ffs.

Yet we have a weaker midfield which was already poor, Coadyless, and no money spent in our most vulnerable area. Speechless!!!

Maybe Dobbo can be sold the 'unfinished business at Charlton' playbook by Grant

No guarantee that TC starts. I’d have him in for the first game but the difference now is he needs to play well to keep the shirt, and also we don’t knacker him by playing him for 45 games and starting him when he flys in from Jamaica the day before games. It’s a big improvement

Wrexham haven't made a move yet. I'd expect upgrades. If Dobbo were to become available on loan or otherwise he'd be a serious addition, especially  in Docs position .
Owners having second thoughts now the fairytale is fading  :D

Personally think the biggest upgrade we’ve made so far is switching to 4231 and actually having the players to do it now

Apart from the midfield 2, the right winger and the forward (with Kelman injured)

Can I just put it out there, I wouldn’t want Dobson back.

This is a key point. We've now got the ability to manage TCs minutes a lot better rather than running him into the ground straight off 2 games on international duty

    Agree with this.

On the subject of Peterborough and that ridiculous rumour, I have noticed Peterboroughs player of the year Archie Collins hasn't joined anyone yet.

Really feel that would be a smart pick up. Pretty good on the ball, can pick a pass, plenty of league 1 experience and looks like he could play a level above potentially.

Not saying he would solve all our midfield problems, but think it would be a solid pick up on a free.

Know his agent, apparently passed on him.
I wonder if after watching our midfielders put in a stinker against average League 1 opposition they will change their stance on this.

League 1 still has very good players and shouldn't be ignored.

Surprised no one has gone near Lewis Wing either, he might be 31, but he consistently plays 40+ games a season, has goals and assists in him and doesn't rely on pace, can easily see him being a consistently good player well into his mid thirties like Oli Norwood.
I think this is where JRC is causing an issue. You can take a punt on Wing/Collins if you have the squad space for them to be a good bench option if they’re not good enough to start. We don’t have that space and need midfielders who can come in and start
    They both start, especially Wing
We need quality, not another midfielder that isn’t good enough to be starting week in week out in the championship. There’s a reason why he’s been playing in league one for the last 5 years.
Doesn't always work like that, I've always said there will be people playing above their level, and people playing below their level.

There could be a number of reasons for this, but being at a Championship club doesn't equate to being a Championship level player and the same goes for League 1.

We aren't going to be able to match upper Champ wages (nothing new there) it looks like our scouting isn't as vast as we would have hoped (our links and signings haven't shown me otherwise) and we aren't going to be dropping the types of fees we are seeing even mid-table Championship sides drop.

The very best of League 1 wouldn't be the worst idea.

Please no one tell me we already tried that either, as statistically we didn't sign the very best of League 1 last season. Kelman and Knibbs being the only two that fell into that category almost but both got injured, had bad pre-seasons and have been very much stop start.
We couldn’t afford the best of L1 last year, we got the leftovers. By the sounds of it the budget has not increased so how is it going to be any different this year?

A top quality number 8 and I think we are in for a good season
Agreed, but we need two centre mids to come in. If it's just the one and we're still having to play one of Cov/Doc then it's really not great

TC was run into the ground last season and it sounds like Alli’s form dipped for Portsmouth when he too was run into the ground. The ability to rotate those two, Grant and yes even Apter can’t be underestimated. Wingers deal in impact and the ability to switch between them could be a decent asset.
  • Think we’ll get that CM in next week
We need two equally as good
I’ll pass that onto NJ, what if he says he can’t afford it?

Maybe we should start a fascinating debate about how good Dobson was/wasn't.

No mention of us here, but does say England and Germany appeal to Holsgrove.

    https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-betclic/estoril/detalhe/bundesliga-chama-por-holsgrove-escoces-podera-estar-de-saida-do-estoril

Bundesliga calls for Holsgrove: Scottish player may be leaving Estoril.

Canaries are asking for 3.5 million euros for the 26-year-old player.

Jordan Holsgrove may be leaving Estoril. According to Record , the club is already in talks with Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Augsburg, all from the Bundesliga, about the 26-year-old Scottish midfielder, who intends to leave the Portuguese club in this summer transfer window and take his career in a new direction.

Besides the German clubs, Wolverhampton, managed by César Peixoto, also inquired about the Estoril number 10, who are asking for 3.5 million euros for the Scottish under-21 international. Germany and England are leagues that appeal to Holsgrove, who, it should be remembered, previously played in Portugal for Paços de Ferreira.

Having come through the Reading youth system, the midfielder also played for Atlético Baleares and Celta Vigo in Spain, as well as Olympiacos in Greece, throughout his career. Holsgrove is under contract with Estoril until June 2028 and is valued at five million euros by the specialist website Transfermarkt. He scored one goal and provided seven assists in 35 games in the 2025/26 season.

In this summer transfer window, Estoril has already sold Boma to RB Salzburg for seven million euros, Foe-Ondoa to Monza for 1.5 million euros, and also lost Pizzi (retired) and Pedro Amaral and Alejandro Marqués on free transfers. Holsgrove and Bacher could therefore be the next big sales for the team from the coast.

Putting that and something I saw from someone else (can't remember who) it sounds like his agent is after more money for himself

It’s obviously not going to be Holsgrove, let’s hope that options 2 and 3 are more willing and available
