Bill was a singular talent.

ps. Maybe this is a sad story too, but there was a a man who died laughing watching a Goodies episode, and incredibly that event has probably saved the life of the man’s daughter.

Used to love the Goodies back in 70’s . Really childish humour that hasn’t aged well.

Oddie was a cantankerous sod at times ( his words not mine ) but another loss from my childhood.

My Dad met him once when he was out bird watching, said he was a lovely bloke and showed a genuine interest.

Very sad news. I loved the Goodies back in the seventies although tge humour was of its time and didn't age. He was also a bird watcher which our family loved.

The Goodies were massive in the 70’s, loved it.
Bill really did suffer from depression so it was great to see his love of wildlife help him through it.
Very sad.
May he rest in eternal peace ❤️

Sad news.
If you want to know more about his life and clinical depression I would recommend Who Do You Think You Are?
It traces what happened to his mother, who was institutionalised for most of his childhood. It is heartbreaking and does not reflect well on the history of mental health in the post-war years in this country.

I remember him initially from "I'm sorry, I'll read that again" on the radio. He wrote many of the songs (Cactus in my Y-fronts

He was also one of the panel members in the early days of "I'm sorry, I haven't a clue" but didn't enjoy it (it was all improvised at the time) and soon left it.
