Absolutely no chance. He will be there or there in the Liverpool match day squad. And more importantly has absolutely no connection to Luton.ThomasOliver3 said:Back in January we were linked with the young Liverpool CM Trey Nyoni. I wonder if he could be an option again this summer once Liverpool's internationals return. High quality and relatively cost effective.
It would be nice to see someone like that as the McNamara and Alli signings have left me feeling underwhelmed and worried we are stuck in the same transfer strategy as last year rather. We've certainly added depth but I see no real improvement in quality so far.3 -
Coventry was very poor for most of last season.
He just passes backwards all the time.
Coady replacing him was one of the main reasons that we ended up staying up.9 -

The women’s team have an exotic signing from Paris FC, while we’re signing a bloke from Millwall who started out in our academy.2

I know you're being facetious but SofaScore do provide these for individual games, here's a few a picked at random (green = accurate, red = inaccurate). He goes forward more than you'd thinkEugenesAxe said:

He isn't always that popular here but TC went from being on the verge of leaving the club on a free for a team who had finished 16th in L1 to being the key attacking threat in a Playoff winning team and then an important part of a team that stayed up its first season in the Championship. Lloyd Jones was having such a confidence crisis and giving away goals so regularly he had to be dropped by Curtis Fleming. I remember him looking completely lost against Northampton and getting hauled off at half time a broken man after helping gift two goals. Then the next game against Blackpool he had to come on at half time after a knock to Gillesphey and almost immediately gave a goal away. You watch (don't, I just did and it genuinely made me feel really depressed) some of our highlights from 23/24 and compare that Lloyd Jones around December and January to this one. Coventry went from a non-entity in his first half season with us to Player's POTY in L1, Thierry Small was an unwanted outcast who couldn't get a game at St Mirren and now is a good Championship player, Kayne Ramsay was signed from L2 and now apparently is wanted in Serie A. I'd say he got more out of Gillesphey and Mannion than anyone expected as well. I don't think the improvements he gets out of players are spectacular but he's definitely got a hell of a lot more out of a fair few of our playersMuttleyCAFC said:It is becoming increasingly noticeable how players fail to kick on with us. I wouldn't expect them all too, maybe only a few, maybe one or two!32 -
Not fair to point out Coventry, the whole team struggled last season. A lot of players it was there first time in the champ.CafcSteve said:Coventry was very poor for most of last season.

He may well. I would argue he does his best work with a shoe-string in that his fees tend to do worse than his frees.SouthLincsAddick said:
I think NJ would snap back that yes he signed those players but only had pennies to bring them in. I do think a certain faction of the fanbase are pretty anti NJ (not you Pudds), they find his style of play and personality hard to like. I don’t mind either as long as we don’t go back to the horrors of L1.Pudds said:We could have the best midfield in the league and would struggle to control the ball and the game.
There are no passing patterns, rotations or plans on how to progress the ball through the thirds. Its lump it long and hope, or get it to TC and hope.
Now Jones may say that he has to play like that because of the players he has, but he also signed those players so its not a great excuse.
This evolution requires both an improvement in midfield and an improvement in how we approach being in possession.
Coventry I think can step up and progress to a passing game, Doc cannot.
If it is only 2 more players to be signed, then they both have to be in midfield. If the plan is for just 1 midfield addition, then you have to seriously question the people making the decisions.

He is older than the other players that is mentioned about, and he had also already played in the championship before last season.AberystwythAddick said:

Why is that not the same for Coventry?I still think he has room to get better which is why I’d be fine with him in our squad next season, and we will then see if he gets better. If he does then maybe a new contract, if he doesn’t then release him next summer.0 -
For me the centre of midfield needs 2026’s Josh Cullen and Kristian Bielik - neither known for outward creativity, but both good enough on the ball to start a move when winning back possession. When we talk of upgrades on Doc and Coventry, that’s what I view as the type of upgrade. The Cullen equivalent will protect the back 4 or 3, break up the play and then the Bielik equivalent will have an element of that to their game, but also have that ability to get us on the counter etc4

Think we’re definitely gonna need to make use out of the loan market this year.cabbles said:For me the centre of midfield needs 2026’s Josh Cullen and Kristian Bielik - neither known for outward creativity, but both good enough on the ball to start a move when winning back possession. Dobson would be a class signing for us at this stage. He would ease right back into the team I reckon.rememberbillybonds said:Dobson is not what we need. He was not a creative midfield player.
I also genuinely think you could give Nathan Jones Iniesta and David Silva, and he would still somehow have 37% possession at home and create little chances. It just isn't his style. We need all action mids who get stuck in a bit and can play a bit. A creative midfielder would be wasted here, I've come to realise that.11 -
Yeah the creativity is meant to come from the direct wingers. It's why everyone we've signed for those areas is some form of running 1v1 threat. They "just" all need to get better at crossing and shootingBraziliance said:

But is this because he has been told to play this take no risk and keep possesion role ?thetomahawkkid said:I think by the comments on here that Coventry is more marmite than mustard!
Personally, I have been very disappointed with his performances. He works hard, but is such a negative player - too much sideways and backwards.0 -
Sounds like we are still very much interested16 -
Still have a feeling we're being used as a pawn to bump up the wages/agent fee14

Also would mean our scouting team has moved on from Luton and clearly taken up residence in Portsmouth if true7

I'm pretty sure Cawley said that Kamara could happen later in the window.1

Technically we're two days later in the window than we were when Cawley said that4

Thanks for posting that, its interesting a lot of the innacurate passes are the forwards ones!fenaddick said:

If Kamara is still on the cards wouldnt that make us a bit overloaded with wide players ?0
