4 at the back?

That’s the problem we actually have no one balanced who can defend and attack at wingback we’ve sort of put our eggs in one basketfenaddick said:
Alli has played LWB but reviews don't sound too positive. I suppose you could have TC play the Small role on the left but I really wouldn't want to see thatCrispywood said:Problem we have now is if we resort back to a 352 we don’t really have anyone who is really a RWB.Ramsay and McNamara are too defensive, Alli/Apter too attacking.
We really don’t have anyone who could do a bit of both
likewise on the left we don’t have a wingback who could play as a winger if we wanted to play the reverse 352/4231.0 -
I sadi we should have gone to 4 at the back last year during our bad spell and was derided for trolling, whatever that means.
The issue is to play 3 CBs requires them to have a certain level of discipline and understanding which we lacked (bar lloyd).0 -

He's not a great attacking wingback, exactly why he was converted into a RCBRadostanradical said:

We are coming to a new season and can we please call our RB or RCB Kayne RAMSAY !1

At championship level he is a better RWB than CB, he looked great as a RCB in league 1 bit was found wanting a lot in championship none more than when he was bullied at Millwall awayfenaddick said:

No he's not, he's a decent RB, he's nowhere near attacking enough to play RWB in this league and that has been proven by the fact we haven't used him there all season last season, save for maybe half a dozen games.Radostanradical said:

Firstly those half a dozen games he looked better than our other two RWBs (Bree and Clarke) significantly. Yes he did play more at CB but that isnt evidence as that would ignore -
1) We had a CB crisis so we had to play him there otherwise we would of had to play Gough, Macca or Z Mitchell at CB and Clarke/Bree are better RWBs than the previous three are CBs hence its resource management.
2) Even if you disagree with my above point then by the logic you are using (and I do mean the logic you are using) Ahadme was should of been our starting striker the season we went up as he was played as CF more tham Godden for the first 3 months of the season. Obviously thats not true the side eveolves and the manager can change things to get the best out of the squad.
Anyway all of this is regardless as I am right.1 -
Do you mean the first half a dozen games of the season when Apter was the RWB? 😂
Literally no idea what you're talking about3 -
If Ramsay is a better RWB than RCB then why did we opt to sign players at RWB’s last summer in Bree + Apter opposed to signing RCB’s and move Ramsay to RWB?Radostanradical said:

Matter of the fact is Ramsay is a RCB in a 3 or a RB in a 4. Personally I prefer him in a 3 but can understand why a change to a 4 back works with him, Ramsay as a wingback isn’t even in the discussion4 -

The answer to your question is that it was a january tranfer window and there wasnt the required quality of CB for the budget we had. This is provably true by the fact the only CB we signed in Jan was Coady who ended up having to play CDM. Also he did look very good CB in L1 so he deserved a shot at it in Championship.1 -

Yes you are correct but I added extra on to the answer but reason still stands though, we didnt have budget to bring in CBs of the required level also Ramsay after his form in L1 at RCB had a right to have a crack at playing that position in Championship. He looked average at CB for me (and many others) personally at championship as a CB.fenaddick said:

Anyway all of this is regardless as I am right.0 -
I still don't know what injury crisis you mean? We had only had one CB missing in January and that was Bell who would never have played RCBRadostanradical said:
Its a fair point you make and I agree it was our view to do so from the start, from Jan onwards we did have a CB crisis however and imo if we had the funds to bring in a new CB of required standards ramsay wouod have been moved to RWB.fenaddick said:

No he's not, he's a decent RB, he's nowhere near attacking enough to play RWB in this league and that has been proven by the fact we haven't used him there all season last season, save for maybe half a dozen games.Radostanradical said:
At championship level he is a better RWB than CB, he looked great as a RCB in league 1 bit was found wanting a lot in championship none more than when he was bullied at Millwall awayfenaddick said:

That’s the problem we actually have no one balanced who can defend and attack at wingback we’ve sort of put our eggs in one basketfenaddick said:

We really don’t have anyone who could do a bit of both

In January we brought in both a centre back and a right wing back, so again that doesn't track.
He's not a good enough RWB for the championship, if he was, we wouldn't have bothered with Bree or Clarke
He's a right back that can fill in at RCB in a 3. He can't play as the RWB in a 5, or as the RCB in a back 4, for a championship side.
That's ok if we're sticking to the back 5 and he plays RCB, or if we're moving to a 4231, but look at his heatmap and metrics for going forwards compared to the 2 actual RWBs we had last season, it's night and day3 -

Are you on a wind up mate? We clearly had a CB injury crisis Burke and Bell were both injured, Jones carried something for quite some time. We played Gough at times. Note i said FROM jan not in Jan.fenaddick said:

No I'm not, I went back to check. Burke was injured for the Chelsea game but came back onto the bench for Sheffield Utd. He was in every squad until Leicester, when Bell came back and Burke then dropped out of the squad for Gillesphey to be on the bench. Burke did pick up a thigh injury but by then we actually had signed a RCB in Sichenje. At no point did we have a CB injury crisis, I don't think we had more than 2 injured CB's at once. That doesn't include Jones who was clearly carrying something but he played so can't have been part of a crisisRadostanradical said:

I believe Kayne Ramsay played as many games at LWB last season (2) as he did at RWB despite us regularly only having one RWB available. Apter played until Bree came in and then Bree played on through injury rather than us play Ramsay there. After that Clarke played every game he was available apart from Derby and Southampton and we started using Fevrier there instead of Ramsay. We signed Sichenje in January and he only pushed Ramsay out to RWB once, against Southampton where Jones had clearly decided he would rather die than take a loss. Ramsay gets put there when we're planning to defend for our lives because he offers nothing going forward but is an excellent defender. His best position is right back but he's a more effective RCB in a 3 than he is a RWB in a team that expects anything at all attacking from that position, especially with our lopsided formation favouring the RWB going forward and the LWB dropping in. There's a reason that putting Small at RWB in 24/25 totally transformed our season and there's a reason we started Ramsay at centre back almost every single game we possibly could in 25/263
