Best game you've seen at the Valley

That was my all time favourite game. And my all time favourite player Alan Campbell was in bed all week with flu, got out of bed to play, and was taken off at half time with us leading 4:0 prompting "dour Scot" Jimmy Scoular, the Cardiff manager, to bemoan the fact that none of his players had flu. Think that (without Campbell) the final score was 4:1 though 🙂

I've been going to The Valley for pretty much 30 years so it should be hard to pick a game, there's quite a few that come to mind too.. especially the 3-3 against Man United back in the day. 

But to be honest, for me it's the Semi Final game against Wycombe last year. Let's face it for 70 minutes or so it was horrid, but Ramsay's heroics, Godden's Ole Ole Moment, and the resulting pitch invasion at full time will live with me for the rest of time to be honest.

It's not just because of the game and the consequence of it too, it's the fact that moment was shared with my brother and my football family. Whenever I'm having a crap day I'll still watch clips of that game to give me a boost

I remember being at the 2005/06 home opener against Wigan and my mate who sat directly behind me (and sadly passed away a few years ago) leaned forward and commented to me during a particularly strong spell of Charlton possession "this is the best football I think I've ever seen us play".

Unlike me, he'd been going for over 30 years at that point. And while the match itself, a 1-0 win, wasn't exactly '10 best ever games' listicle fodder, whenever I think back to that season and those days, I think he might have been right on behalf of both of us.

Beating Chelsea 4-0 Easter Monday Mickey Flanagan Hat-trick.

Spurs match was good, but their Centre Forward ( just bought that season from Stoke missed a hatful of sitters)

Chelsea 4-2 was best. Doncaster, when they got in front late during the tie I left for the station. 

2-2 vs Swindon, 9 men with Akpo chasing down his own flick-ons was hugely entertaining ending with Llera equaliser. 

Some that spring to.mind;

2-3 1983 FA Cup defeat to Ipswich was superb. Non-stop entertainment.

Charlton 5 Chelsea 2 with Simonsen taking control.

Charlton 5 Barnsley 3 in 1985....after being 0-3 down.

The 3-3 with Manchester Utd.

The Doncaster play-off. 

There are many others.

If the Giggs turn and shot from the half way line had gone in, instead of hitting the bar, that would have been one of the all time great Premier League goals.

My grandad died suddenly that morning the day before his 80th birthday, and we went to the game anyway. He was a big CAFC fan and got my dad into Charlton. He would have wanted us to go. 

When we equalised late it felt like he had intervened. Bittersweet moment. 

Then back to my Nan's to console her.

Reminds me of a memorable game, not for the good, when we lost 1~0 at The Valley against Swindon. 
I think we had something like 20 shots, 14 on target and Swindon didn't have a single shot on goal.

That's right, forgot about the half time gift to Willie Carson (and STFC). I've forgotten about why we gave them cash (and 3 points), guessing financial difficulties much like Clubs still having everywhere 

We did lose that Doncaster game, of course, and played really badly bar the first 5 minutes .

Did we play Huddersfield the same season on a Friday and had similar amount of shots and also lost 1-0?

Which reminds me, that the home game where we ended Huddersfield's 600 year unbeaten run was a cracking night.
