Surprised for £1m there isn't a championship club willing to take a punt on Kanu on a long contract and chuck him out on loan to League One to see how he does

If the Championship club’s plan was that transparent DK is even less likely to sign up for that than he would a contract extension here. Why go somewhere else to be in exactly the same position for the next 12 months anyway?

Was Chalobah really on £20k a week at Wednesday? It would be a huge risk looking at his injury record over the last two seasons.

    Edit
“Legs like biscuits” was the verdict of one Wednesday fan about Chalobah last night.
Biscuits are a good thing, so I take that as a positive.

Every club knows we need to sell Kanu, they’re going to wait till deadline day and we’re going to slowly have to lower our valuation overtime
More likely is that a league 1 team will sell their first-choice forward and be desperate for a replacement before the deadline passes. Giving us leverage in negotiations.

Not everything has to be doom and gloom mate.
Just being realistic out of all the L1 clubs Bradford, Leicester, Luton, Plymouth are the only teams who either A) spend enough money on fees B) need a striker.

I think it’s a sign we be received double digit clubs interested in loans but only 2 permanent bids were aware of

More money (assuming this imaginary side is one of the big dogs with loads of cash) and security? Just feels like it's not a huge fee for some of the players in this division and if he were to have a great season in League One at 21/22, valuations would likely increase further (lots of ifs and buts of course)

Does feel like Plymouth would be a great move for DK, if we would be up for moving down there

Kanu had pretty much the most successful loan period a young player could have last season. Not sure why we’d sell him after that. Give him a new deal and let him know that we see him as having the potential to compete for a spot in our squad in 2027/28, but this season we want him to go out and smash it in a L1 loan.

I wonder if the club are playing hardball with Kanu ie sign a new, longer, deal or leave now. If he signs then a loan to L1 is fine.

Or maybe we just want/need the money a sale would generate to fund other deals plus we need to trim the squad size.
Think it's a bit of both. I would hope we don't need the money but we do need the squad space. I am surprised he hasn't moved on already, I'd have thought there would be a few clubs willing to pay for him
If we're asking for around £1m I would have thought the top end of League 1 would be starting a queue. Especially Plymouth who have the money to spend.
I'm sorry, but if we're only asking a million, considering last season, it would be a steal. And, yes, I know he's in the last year of his contract...

I would hope we're asking for more, and playing hardball. After all, we don't need to sell. And it's a seller's market.

If your market is League One, can you really be asking for multi-millions?

I wouldnt be surprised if we have done just that but after last season he probably feels (justifiably) that he can go on to better than being loaned out again.
A year from now if we've stayed up we may well be looking at more gradual evolution and he may end up being entirely surplus and farmed out on loan again - hes young, seems ambitious, I dont hold him wanting more against him.

    Aren't Leicester in League 1?

And now Wednesday are rebuilding, don't they have some dosh to splash?

And how much did Millwall buy Lisbie for? Who had nowhere near the season that Kanu had...

Chalobah could play the linchpin role in the side Coady did so well last season, a more advanced version that will get us up the pitch.

Lisbie is a winger, got 11 goals and 7 assists

Kanu is a striker, got 15 goals and 2 assists

    How is that "nowhere near"

    Leceister want Liam Cullen.
Wednesday have signed Burstow and Gray on loan.

So arguably the only teams with the finances and priority to bring in Kanu are Plymouth and Luton that’s not a plethora of options

I’d be really happy to sign Chalobah after watching him last night and at the end of last season, bit worrying with the injury record but think it’s worth the risk. Be interesting to see how many more we bring in . Can still see it being 4 if a few more go out.
Chalobah, brother in the England World Cup squad, experienced, calm, good player, BUT after recent signings of the vulnerable to injury (to put it politely) , for me he's too much of a risk, pity though

I agree but maybe he doesn't want to sign a new deal or wants more than we're currently offering, both of which he's entitled to do.

To echo what others have said, I think Chalobah improves us, it’s whether we keep him fit. Personally, if the budget was there and he would accept a club average wage, I’d sign him.

Saying that, if we are in for Holsgrove is that too many players, with Coventry / JRC, in that DM role?

What does the midfield look like with Doc / Cov / Hols / Chalobah / Mwamba / Knibbs / Carey / JRC..(think that’s all) as the central options?

I think a lot of us are over estimating Kanu's value at the moment. For the record, I'm a big fan of Kanu, I hope he signs a new deal and I'm really pleased he had a good loan last season.

But looking at it objectively, last season he scored 15 goals from 40 appearances in League 2 and was the league's 7th highest goal scorer. Before that, he had 7 goals from 59 League One appearances. It's only been one season since we were a top-end League One side, and can you imagine the reaction on here if in League One we'd spent £1 million on the 7th highest goal scorer in League 2 who'd effectively only had one good season in his career?

He has a lot of potential, but there aren't many clubs in League One who can afford to fork out for potential, especially at the mid to lower end who might more realistically be his market.

We signed Kelman last summer for over £2m when he was top scorer in League One
Kanu scored six less goals in League Two... So don't think its that unreasonable, his Contract situation probably doesnt help
